Eating in other People's Houses

MaxPepsi · 01/04/2016 15:08

Whilst chatting about weekend plans at work today I have mentioned that me and DH are babysitting for some friends tonight and that we plan on getting a takeaway once we've put their kids to bed.

All fairly normal and standard, or so I thought.

My announcement - re the takeaway, has been met with the utmost disapproval and I am apparently massively out of order to even think about ordering food to another persons house whilst I am there Confused

So - am I??

As it happens, I could hold a huge fuck off party in this friends house and she wouldn't give a shit, so long as she was invited Grin and I will still be ordering takeaway, which she knows about and isn't bothered about either

That is very odd! Who said you were out of order? Oh and YANBU!

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 01/04/2016 15:13

Of course you're not out of order.

Who said you were?

minipie · 01/04/2016 15:13

Huh? What are you supposed to do - not eat?

8angle · 01/04/2016 15:13

No!

Would these people think you would be more reasonable to raid the fridge, use all the pots and pans and cook a 3 course meal.

Are the disapprovers the sort of people who either disapprove of takeaways full stop, or disapprove of the people who deliver takeaway?

all very strange!

squoosh · 01/04/2016 15:18

They're probably the sort who'd think it very rude of you to use the toilet too.

Pinkheart5915 · 01/04/2016 15:20

No not at all.
The person at work that said is was odd, is the odd one.
When we baby sit my nephew we often order take away at my brothers and he does the same when he baby sits for us.

TheOnlyColditz · 01/04/2016 15:21

er no, your colleagues are weird. If you were babysitting for me I would pay for your damned takeaway myself!

whois · 01/04/2016 15:21

How is that rude?

Food is normally part of be deal when I babysit!

monkeysox · 01/04/2016 15:22

Yanbu. treat yourself to a post take away poop too Grin

ivykaty44 · 01/04/2016 15:23

Freaks - who ever they are that told you this most strange thing

Cookingongas · 01/04/2016 15:26

I'm a -much hated on mn- plumber. On Tuesday's if we're all working in a big job I often order the team a dominos Shocks. I Always offer the customer a pizza free of charge and ask permission, but none have said no yet. but I am waiting for the mn thread aibu thread "my plumber ordered pizza whilst working on my house!"

Floggingmolly · 01/04/2016 15:27

People are weird about food. I stayed at my brother and sister in law's for a week as a teenager, to mind their dog too cheap to shell out for kennels
There was NOTHING edible in the house, literally nothing.

The fridge was completely empty, the freezer was defrosted and I couldn't even find the food cupboard, no trace of even staple stuff.
I had to feed myself for a full week, which I wouldn't have had to do at home, and to say thank you they brought me back a (small) bottle of Charlie perfume.
Miserable bastards.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 01/04/2016 15:30

Cookingongas

I'm married to a Plumber, are they 'much hated' on here?Confused

MaxPepsi · 01/04/2016 15:33

haha.
I was slightly concerned I'd been doing it wrong all these years.

I work in a mainly male environment and find sometimes their views on things are different to me, but even my brothers would order a takeaway! maybe the men in my office just don't babysit ever!

My friends won't actually care what I do in their house - so long as their kids are safe and happy!

Any plumber who buys me pizza is welcome in my home!

MaxPepsi · 01/04/2016 15:34

Why are plumbers hated??

OP posts:
MyLocal · 01/04/2016 15:36

I love my plumber, he is patient, professional, does a fab job, not too expensive and only lives round the corner so if I need something done urgent he passes twice a day!

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 01/04/2016 15:37

Max I've not picked up on Plumber hate.

Any Tradesman asking for coffee or the loo gets the occasional AIBU written about them but I've not seen stuff specifically about plumbers.

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 01/04/2016 15:37

MaxPepsi because they might use your toilet. Workmen stepping into the hallowed sanctuaries which are some MNers bathrooms make them faint with horror and disdain.

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 01/04/2016 15:38

OK, for "plumbers" read "tradespeople of varying description".

drivingmisspotty · 01/04/2016 15:38

The only way I can imagine this being rude is if you ordered something v smelly that the householders don't like.

I always make dinner for my babysitters. Maybe I should let them order take away next time they are obviously missing out!

Cookingongas · 01/04/2016 15:40

We may poo or per in a toilet we fix or install, we are always ripping people off, we always take too long, we are the least trustworthy of all trades -- all reasons I have seen on mn to hate plumbersWink

ephemeralfairy · 01/04/2016 15:40

Cookingongas wow!! I would be beside myself with joy if I had a plumber like you! You treat your team well and offer free pizza to your clients?! Where are you based? If you are near me I am going to block my toilet on purpose next tuesday!!
