MNHQ already said it is NBU to continue the thread after the OP had a strop and got it deleted...

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2603249-to-invite-Londoners-to-help-the-Womens-Equality-Party?

OP posts:
EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 31/03/2016 12:42

Are they running the party using the "stereotypical behaviours associated with women" handbook?

Well, given their view that being a woman has more to do with feelings than biology, it's entirely possible.

Honestly though... can't they see how stupid they're making themselves look?

Undertone · 31/03/2016 12:51

I am utterly convinced that a WEP footsoldier (who probably didn't understand MN at all well) decided to post about the stunt without WEP HQ knowledge. When it all kicked off, WEP HQ found out about it and might have been cross, as the way it was posted and not at all managed made the party look lackadaisical on MN, again. This probably caused the distress the OP cited - she got told she'd done something daft.

FWIW I'm a fan of the party but they do need to get their online engagement strategy and execution sorted pronto.

HemlockSolanum · 31/03/2016 12:55

With WEP it tends to feel more like lip service. They give the impression that they think us women will be superficial enough to be won over by "feminine" means (eg. those awful valentines emails) but not clever enough to need actual thorough policies.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 31/03/2016 13:00

They seem to have a pattern of dumping pronouncements on us & then being shocked / horrified when we don't respond as they expect us to. Do they not realise that women have minds of their own?

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 31/03/2016 13:33

I would have had more sympathy with "op's employer was unaware of the thread and so she has asked us to delete" than with the apparent emotional blackmail of mnhq

VertigoNun · 31/03/2016 13:43

Jeremy Corbyn didn't complain to MNHQ when the DM made an article out of a thread on here. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3177326/I-m-actually-bit-embarrassed-Jeremy-Corbyn-blushes-status-Mumsnet-sex-symbol-Dumbledore-sea-dog-look.html

When did the thread go?

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 31/03/2016 13:44

This morning, about half hour before i posted this. Both iona and helen posted on it last night, so the original op must have got in touch this morning

VertigoNun · 31/03/2016 13:45

I took a sc of the op to show somebody in rl, they found it and the redacted version amusing.

Sunshowercap · 31/03/2016 13:49

There's a significant and increasing number of women who are not, and never will be, mummies. Currently they have no one to champion them as the mainstream political parties are constantly falling over themselves in their bids to attract votes from the "hard working families"

For this alone, I thank you Zeezeek - a top post all round.

I really really want to support the WEP, but they're not making me feel I can. I also think they need to be networking wit a whole lot of women who were active in the 70s - the real Women's Lib trailblazers. Get Prof. Greer on side, and the founders of Virago. And so on.

VertigoNun · 31/03/2016 13:54

Did anyone find WEP post on netmums, SEND children specific forums or disabled parents network? I didn't and they claim they are not only interested in standard MC mothers.

Samcro · 31/03/2016 14:00

i still struggle to find the link between wheelchair user and = women
a lot of wheelchair users are men. a lot of carers are men.

same with buggies a lot of the have boys in them and are being pushed by men.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 31/03/2016 14:24

Ah yes but dont forget...
Woman wheelchair user OR woman parent OR woman carer

HemlockSolanum · 31/03/2016 14:29

Not seeing them even tweeting at disability charities either? Makes it feel like wheelchair/disability access is just a tag on to their main point?

VertigoNun · 31/03/2016 14:32

"Parents/carers and wheelchair users" were required.

Sunshowercap - thanks!

Sunshowercap · 31/03/2016 14:58

Yes I thought that. Another attempt by entitled parents to grab the precious little space & accommodation for wheelchair users, fought for by campaigners for the rights & freedoms of those with disabilities.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 31/03/2016 15:08

Yes, part of my epic post was that i would have come from the side of pushchair spaces being good for invisible disabilities and that was something that probably would have come across slightly less 'entitled' than the way it was worded.

And that if they'd hired someone with a modicum of disability knowledge to promote it, they would have known how badly it was going to come across.

I wish. But I think WEP would be horrified to be linked with any kind of feminist except the naice liberal sort who put everyone else first.

VertigoNun · 31/03/2016 18:45

The nice liberal sort happy to sell things on ebay for WEP.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 31/03/2016 19:14

Missing an inclusiveness trick though. If they were Greens they'd be the Non-Males Equality Party (though still with women at the bottom of the list).

ArcheryAnnie · 31/03/2016 19:57

Empress I've just seen all that go down on twitter - all that utterly ridiculous "women's groups are for non-males" stuff from the Scottish Greens and the Green Party Women.

It's like a really bad Private Eye parody, except these clowns are what passes for organised progressive politics in 2016. Who'd have thought that both the Greens and the Women's Equality Party would be so fucking useless? It makes me despair.

AskBasil · 31/03/2016 20:23

LOL, so a woman is just anything that isn't a man?

A demi-fluid woman, a gestational bi-fluid etiolated snowflake, a transgender, a transsexual and the odd carpet that might find its way in?

We really don't exist as an actual biological reality for them, do we?

Man is the measure of all things. And then there's everyone else who doesn't fit the masculinity box. Lump them all together.

And they don't even see the sexism of it. Amazing.

HemlockSolanum · 31/03/2016 20:31

I just don't get how this is the state of left wing/progressive politics? I'm still hoping that I'm going to wake up to find this has all been some awful cheese dream
