Supervising toddler on holiday

Hermagsjesty · 29/03/2016 14:57

I am away in Wales with my 2yo, 4yo, DH and MIL and FIL. It's a house they own. They also have a (big) dog.

I don't understand the question?

RNBrie · 29/03/2016 15:01

What's the question here?

Summerisle1 · 29/03/2016 15:03

YABU if you expect the dog to supervise the toddler.

Babymamamama · 29/03/2016 15:04

Have a nice holiday.

Cornettoninja · 29/03/2016 15:05

Yes the toddler will need supervising. You really should be doing that when you're not on holiday aswell.

fluffiphlox · 29/03/2016 15:05

Is the dog called Nana?

Please let the dog be called Nana.

Hermagsjesty · 29/03/2016 15:06

Posted too soon! Away with in laws and their dog. There isn't much furniture as its a house that they rent out but there is a non gated staircase. We're on the ground floor. I feel like our 2yo should be allowed to wander unsupervised or be left in a room unsupervised (in case he wanders). The others seem to think I am irrational/ over protective. AIBU? I accept I might... I'm not always my most relaxed around my in laws in general!

You are the parent. It's your job. If your DH is a useless arse, tackle him.
If your PILs have a big dog and you are staying for free in their house you need to make an arrangement you can all agree with.
So yes, YABU to post something nonsensical on AIBU.

Hermagsjesty · 29/03/2016 15:07

Thanks for the very speedy replies - even without an actual question!

Eh you think your toddler should be able to wander about and people think that's over protective?

I would start again op Wink

Summerisle1 · 29/03/2016 15:08

2 year olds should be supervised, yes. But the same applies at home surely?

ZiggyPantaloons · 29/03/2016 15:09

Sorry, my message posted before I saw your second one.

Do you mean "shouldn't be ... unsupervised'? I wouldn't have left either of my two unsupervised for much more than a pee at that age.

Hermagsjesty · 29/03/2016 15:09

I meant I think he should not be allowed to wander... Sorry for stream of nonsense. Am a bit anxious and emotional.

If you're worried about the stairs, why not get a stair gate?

I'm pretty sure you can get ones that don't need to be screwed into a wall.

curren · 29/03/2016 15:11

Tbh if you are worried about the stairs, you should have brought a baby gate with you.

As for your dh, surely the same rules apply at home. Why is this an issue?

AdrenalineFudge · 29/03/2016 15:11

You and Dh should supervise them regardless. Enjoy your break!

Whatthefreakinwhatnow · 29/03/2016 15:11

He's 2, provided you keep an eye on him and don't leave him alone with the dog I don't see the problem.

If you want the house toddler proofed for your holiday, this is your responsibility not your IL's so pick up a stair Gate and anything else that you think you need and fit them yourself.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/03/2016 15:12

Dog and ungated stairs? No wandering unsupervised. YANBU (as long as I understood what you are actually asking Grin )

Topseyt · 29/03/2016 15:13

Start again please. What are you trying to say?

Your posts are a bit incoherent. Of course your toddler should be supervised, or just allowed to play and roam where you can see him/her, especially with ungated stairs and a large dog.

StarlingMurmuration · 29/03/2016 15:13

I think you should report this thread to MNHQ, ask for it to be deleted and start again. Or get it edited.

Hermagsjesty · 29/03/2016 15:14

I'd always supervise him at home - other than in my 4year olds bedroom which is child proof and has a stair gate. I think the issue is actually probably that I know I'm not being unreasonable and am upset/ stressed about being made to feel like some kind of over protective control freak. I probably just need to stop being an idiot and talk up my husband!
