What mother of the groom think it's appropriate to totally steal the limelight from the bride by dancing a 7 minute dance with her son. Never mind the fact it's a cringe inducing Thriller/Gangnam style/moonwalking medley.

The groom wants a slap as well for agreeing to this. Bet the bride was well hacked off.

Sorry, it's a dm link for the dm haters.

I don't even know why you would want to do that? Confused

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 29/03/2016 09:16

I feel a bit sorry for them that it all fell a bit flat.

MrsJayy · 29/03/2016 09:17

I find these wedding dances cringy but really nightmare mil stealing the brides limelight is all a bit speshul snowflake they are trying to have a bit of fun even if its cringey and cheesey

weirdsister · 29/03/2016 09:17

It was cringy to begin with but then became quite sweet. They both look as if they're having a brilliant time and it's not been overly choreographed. The man on the groom's right (front view) who continues eating his food with his back to them is funny!

Notso · 29/03/2016 09:18

I think any bride who needed the limelight every second of the wedding is a bridezilla and potential nightmare DIL.

I also think these choreographed dances are naff and cringy.

Letustryagain · 29/03/2016 09:25

YANBU but in the sense that it was so bloody awful (cringeworthy, bad 'Mum' dancing not to mention the groom's efforts...) and clearly the guests thought so too as there was little to no reaction.

Those dances should only ever be done if you can actually dance!! Grin

It was probably a good excuse for the Bride to go to the loo or down a pint in private...

MrsJayy · 29/03/2016 09:28

There was a spate of B & G doing the dirty dancing dance everytime i saw a video of it made me curl up in a ball with the cringe.

alltouchedout · 29/03/2016 09:31

Oh cringe. .

MrsJayy · 29/03/2016 09:33

That My son song is outstanding bet all the irish mammys weep at it Grin

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 29/03/2016 09:37

Oh come on those sucking the very sour lemon, it's a jokey thread, not to be taken too seriously , well, not serious from my end anyway Grin.

And yet it's pretty common for the bride to have a special dance with her dad, isn't it? I've been to various weddings where that happened.

In fact, at mine I asked my dad to dance with me and he did but was really embarrassed about it and walked off the dance floor leaving me standing there before the song was over. I still feel really sad about it and can't listen to the song (which I loved) any more.

MrsJayy · 29/03/2016 09:48

Aww bless the mammys. I saw a daughter and dad song on 4 weddings it was a traditional traveller song another bride stole it for her wedding Shock

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 29/03/2016 09:50

I can't get my toes to uncurlGrin. That's hilarious!

ScarletForYa · 29/03/2016 09:53

Cringeworthy, selfish woman upstaging the bride. He's a plonker for going along with it.

I predict trouble.

NeedACleverNN · 29/03/2016 10:02

My dad danced with me at my wedding.

Probably the only time I had ever seen my dad dance and cry.

Not an embarrassing sob, just a couple of tears.

I'm not close with my father at all but that did make me a bit emotional myself and even now I well up as it was probably the only time my dad ever showed me he did love me really.

ILikeUranus · 29/03/2016 10:03

I think if dh did a 7 minute 'surprise' planned dance with his mum, and another with the groomsmen, I'd be thinking 'shit. can we get un-married now?'.

Maybe they all love dancing and the bride did the same and the couple did a massive long dance too. We don't know. I'm just fucking grateful I didn't marry that guy have to go and watch that wedding.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 29/03/2016 10:20

Maybe I do sound a pain in the arse Farrow but you sound a total misery. Lighten up fgs.

Gaaah what a cringeworthy dance.

However the concept (choreography aside!) is fine. We did our second dance as father daughter dance, after a minute or so sons led their mothers onto the dance floor, I also danced with my brother. It was a nice moment and shows that it's not just about the new couple, but the families being brought together.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 29/03/2016 10:30

anyone who does a set piece dance routine at a wedding is a prick...it's not big, clever, funny or innovative

it's just cringey....get over yourselves. ffs!

and those ridiculous faux backdrop photos too, while i am at it...utter twattery.

BillSykesDog · 29/03/2016 11:08

I don't think the joke really carries over here. Apparently at US weddings it's not unusual for a mother and son dance to happen so it's just trying to be cute by subverting the tradition. It's in poor taste, but that's Yanks for you. All these 'surprise' dance routines were sort of funny the first 2 or 3 times they were done, but they're old and tired now. It also sounds like it was the son's idea and a lot of this is viral marketing for his video agency.

FarrowandBallAche · 29/03/2016 11:20

The irony OP.

Am I the only person that didn't want "all the limelight" on my wedding day? i found the idea that I would be the centre of attention all day and that it was "my big day" really cringeworthy. Luckily after the service people just got on with having a good time leaving me free to mix and chat.

Dh and I did open the dance floor - lasted all of 5 seconds cause his cuff link got ensnared in my hair do and we had to crab off sideways so that I could be cut free Blush
