Because Fb Easter bragging posts are giving me the rage?

Aarghhh!!! "All ready for my babies in the morning" with picture of ridiculously huge pile of chocolate, sweets, TOYS (WTF? It's not Christmas!), CLOTHES, Easter trees, bunnies and fluffy chicks. I have oodles of these nauseating posts on my Fb feed tonight. AIBU to think Easter is letting your kids eat chocolate for breakfast and that's it? What the heck is WRONG with people?

Oops. Bold fail.

GarlicShake · 27/03/2016 02:21

The Jesus meme made me laugh. Sorry, everyone (ish). It wasn't rude about the crucifixion - it said something like what a humunguous effort to have made for everyone to have chocolate at Easter. Just a little joke.

My family (well, my mum and then me) made a big effort with the Easter egg hunt. It was a proper performance, with a rhyming riddle for every clue. Fortunately we didn't have an internet then, so nobody thought we were doing it to show off!

Loads of my friends have posted very designery and/or crafty stuff, which doesn't look much like it's for the children Wink I don't care, all I've got to do is click 'like'.

Happy Easter!

DisappointedOne · 27/03/2016 02:42

If they embrace Easter why are they not involved in all the lovey activities in their local churches and other venues?

Easter has nothing to do with the church.

CakeNinja · 27/03/2016 02:43

I've got my 3dc an egg each, and a malteaser bunny/tmnt kinder egg. Then I've hidden loads of little eggs round the house for a hunt.

Family have all got them eggs.
Mil always buys them some clothes aswell as an egg. She's really into clean living so she usually buys a small chocolate treat and the clothes as a present.
Before we had DC, she used to buy dp (her son) and I underwear Confused
She's lovely, but I did think that was odd!

My mum always used to buy me the latest now cd aswell as an Easter egg.

None of my Easter shenanigans will be appearing on fb. I save my FB for fabulous selfies (not really!). I haven't see any FB nonsense about it either, which is good. I did delete people for posting photos of piles of presents. I find it crass so now I don't have to see it.

You can solve this problem by deleting them!

wispywoo1 · 27/03/2016 07:59

One of my relatives (newly married, no kids) posted a pic of her easter gift from her DH... A Pandora bracelet with 3 charms!! Shock do people do this?!?

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 27/03/2016 08:07

I'm always a bit bemused by how many Easter eggs or presents my kids friends get - we have an Easter egg hunt (visit from bunny) on Saturday and then the kids get given one Easter egg at church. They don't get any from other people, and it wouldn't occur to me to buy Easter Eggs for anyone else. My friend told me in the week her kids already have NINE large eggs each and that's without the ones from her. I don't know where on earth my kids would ever get so many from. I'm glad they don't as it would be really hard for me not to eat them and I am already largely overweight and desperately trying to lose weight!

But, each to their own, I hate any competitive parenting but don't mind FB posts about people enjoying life.

For us Easter is more about church and religion, and celebrating the end of Lent and enjoying and being thankful for whatever we chose to give up.

m0therofdragons · 27/03/2016 08:08

When did it become a thing that the easter bunny leaves the eggs? My eggs have always been gifts so my dc got one from us each, the grand parents both have them one each and some friends who stayed gave them one - 4 eggs in total (plus some bunny ears as they were cute and I got sucked in by store positioning.) I hate the fb brag type posts - my eyes do an uncontrollable roll.

m0therofdragons · 27/03/2016 08:12

Of course everyone is celebrating fertility Hmm

MissRabbitHasTooManyJobs · 27/03/2016 08:13

Slightly off topic but..
Easter clothes. Where I live ( Liverpool ) it's like the law that dc have Easter clothes/coat/shoes/socks and some do it for Easter Monday too!
Don't know if it's a regional thing.

I always had them as a child and have normally done it every year with my own dc.

This year though, tough tits they each have a new outfit ( no new coat/shoes etc ) as they don't need them and it's ridiculous to spend a fortune on stuff and we're not even going out.
Disclaimer- I bought them an outfit as were off out tomorrow instead and they need new clothes Grin

Would be interesting to hear other peoples views...

ProfYaffle · 27/03/2016 08:19

Ha! I opened this thread thinking 'I haven't seen anything like this on fb'. Then I checked fb and first post was 2 dc standing by piles of eggs as tall as themselves! The standard of my friends is obviously going downhill. Grin

Groovee · 27/03/2016 08:23

My daughters godmother dropped off 2 large eggs for my 2. Then granny came round with large eggs from her and her sister and I got my 2, 2 little eggs! Dd will use hers to get through revising X

TimeToMuskUp · 27/03/2016 08:30

I have a 10 and 5 year old and both have been given 7 eggs by friends/family. I made them a treasure hunt late last night after 3 glasses of white and their prize was a Tsum Tsum they'd both wanted (£3 for both, more money for gin) and a cadburys creme egg. They were delighted.

Friends have posted stuff on FB featuring masses of toys; horses for courses. My Grandma always bought us a new outfit for Easter, my brother and I used to take bets on whose costume would be the most revolting. It was always mine. It's sort of died out now though. The piles of stuff don't bother me at all; I love the photos of them searching for eggs!

FarrowandBallAche · 27/03/2016 08:31

It makes some people feel better I expect.
Not really bothered by it tbf.

fourage · 27/03/2016 08:32

Jesus can piss of with those horrible grisly stories about blood and torture and flesh eating zombies.

Easter is a lovely time and a celebration of new life. Why bring all the horror into it?

BicycleGasoline · 27/03/2016 08:34

missrabbit I remember the new clothes thing, it stems from my parents' era (50's) when they would get only a couple of outfits a year. Easter would be the time they switched from their winter to spring/summer outfit so they would have new clothes for Easter Sunday church and that would be it for the rest of the year. It's a world away from even my childhood and unrecognisable to my kids!
My father had to wear shorts all year round as a small child. They had 3 sets of clothes - school, play, church, and that was it.

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 27/03/2016 08:41

Bonkerz Sainsburys and Holland & Barratt do good dairy free chocolate goodies. I buy them for vegan reasons but they appear to be suitable for people who are unable to eat dairy products.

Can't comment of FB though, it's not something I have anything to do with.

diddl · 27/03/2016 08:43

"Never heard of an Easter tree. Is it a Christmas tree covered in eggs and chicks?"

Over here we hang egg shaped decorations on a tree in the garden.

Have also been known to do something inside like this

mumoseven · 27/03/2016 08:45

Ignoring it this year. My bunny rabbit is at the vets and v poorly and I might be making that decision later on today. So not in the moodEaster Sad

Janeymoo50 · 27/03/2016 08:51

When our family kids were little, Easter was my favourite "holiday" after Christmas. They got one egg, maybe a small gift and a hunt. It was more to do with the family getting together for probably the first time since Christmas, having a long weekend and the promise of Spring, lighter nights and that feeling of having got through the long, cold dark days of winter.

I really like Easter. I'm doing a late dinner for 4, Greek lamb and will no doubt watch telly, drink too much wine and look forward to tea and toast in bed at 10am tomorrow.

That said, none of it will be splattered on Fakebook.

MardAsSnails · 27/03/2016 08:51

I don't get how Easter has evolved into this bollocks

'Oh look the Easter bunny has been, so excited for my little dahlings to find all the eggs tomorrow'.

When did that become a thing? I asked a fellow Brit colleague this morning albeit she's Muslim but still, grew up similar era similar area she also doesn't recall it being anything other than a couple of chocolate eggs and people actually going to church, lots of leg of lamb dinners and lots of football

fourage · 27/03/2016 09:09

I have an easter tree too.

kiwimumof2boys · 27/03/2016 09:09

Ha. Well, my Easter Sunday was this:
6am. DS2: 'Um, Mum? DS1 has just spewed and had diharoea in his bed!'
Yes. yes he had.
Before 8am I had cleaned bedding and floors, showered a very upset DS1 (Upset cos he couldn't have any easter eggs - not that I blame him really), bleached the bathroom and done a whole heap of laundry that had been soiled (won't go into disgusting detail but you can imagine).
Went onto fbook after all that and saw all these bloody cutesy eater photos, made me feel stabby, was tempted to put a photo up of my very grumpy DS on couch drinking water whilst his brothers were (discreetly) eating easter eggs.
And then I realised it was Easter Sunday and the shops were shut.
And I didn't have any wine.
Happy easter everyone.

fourage · 27/03/2016 09:10

Never had lamb at easter as a child. Or roast beef for that matter. Boiled mutton perhaps. Roast meat was the preserve of rich or english people.

glueandstick · 27/03/2016 09:10

It'll be these fuckers that meant I couldn't get an Easter egg yesterday. I was desperate for the thin Easter chocolate. Tastes so much better. Grabby bastards.

celeste83 · 27/03/2016 09:19

Yes just seen a fb post where someone gave their child a bike this morning. Since when did Easter become about presents?
