To be fuming with friend

She was having a hard time and wanted to stay with her parents 300 miles away, but was apparently broke. Another friend and I gave her £25 each so £50 in total.

Then she bought some expensive makeup and a nutribullet.

AIBU to think this was pretty Hmm

What's a nutribullet?

melonribena · 26/03/2016 17:26

Did she go to her parents?

claraschu · 26/03/2016 17:27

You can't buy a nutribullet for £50. They cost more than that- closer to £100.

Groovee · 26/03/2016 17:27

How did she get a nutribullet that cheap?

I'd ask for my money back!

GabiSolis · 26/03/2016 17:27

What's the timescale on this? If this all happened simultaneously then of course YANBU. Did she actually go to her parents? You won't get much expensive make up for £50 and definitely not a nutribullet, so this might not all be connected.

Making expensive purchases post-borrowing money from friends is an absolute no-no however (if you've made no effort to pay the money back).

gamerchick · 26/03/2016 17:29

You lent her money, maybe you weren't the only ones who gave her money?

QuiteLikely5 · 26/03/2016 17:31

Maybe once she got to her parents they have her some cash?

whatkatemiddletondidatuni · 26/03/2016 17:32

She went to her parents but then got paid. I think she should have given the money back first.

BillSykesDog · 26/03/2016 17:59

Did you tell her it was a loan? You say you 'have' it to her, sounds like she might have thought it was a gift.

Birdsgottafly · 26/03/2016 18:08

Is she paying you back?

If she's been paid and has still got your money over, then it's upto her what she spends money on.

Or she might have got money from her Parents for Easter.

Nutribullets are £50 on Easter Deals.

yorkshapudding · 26/03/2016 18:39

Did you make it clear that you expected the money to be repaid?

You lent her money to go to her parents. She went to her parents.

Unless you stipulated that you wanted your £25 back on her next payday, I think yabu

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 26/03/2016 18:56

Yeah I'm in agreement with everyone else. She wanted to go to her parents but couldn't afford too - because she hadn't been paid or because she just generally couldn't afford too?

If she thinks you gifted her £25 each to go to her parents then she won't think she's being unreasonable to spend her own money - it was a gift. If you loaned it to her, instead of gave it to her, you have more of a case.

ElderlyKoreanLady · 26/03/2016 18:56

You gave her the money...Did you say you expected it back? If not, YABU. She can spend money she receives afterwards on what she likes.

iyamehooru · 26/03/2016 19:01

If it was a loan just ask for it back. If it wasn't then don't judge her

RudeElf · 26/03/2016 19:04

When did this all happen?

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 26/03/2016 19:04

My dad used to tell me, Never loan money to friends unless you don't want it back.

RudeElf · 26/03/2016 19:05

Because pay day was probably yesterday so its not as if she has left it ages to pay you back.

expatinscotland · 26/03/2016 19:14

Did you tell her it was a loan.

Blatherskite · 26/03/2016 19:42

Where are Nutribullets on £50 deals?

LifeofI · 26/03/2016 21:09

LifeofI · 26/03/2016 21:10

minionsrule · 26/03/2016 21:57

How do you know she bought this stuff, did she tell you? Seems quite random actually {confused}

WellErrr · 26/03/2016 22:01

Hmm, well surprised to see I'm in the minority but I think this is out of order.

You don't cry poor so that friends give you money, then go on a spending spree. That's just not cricket.
