Workman using my toilet!

NorthernBird92 · 21/03/2016 14:31

2 workmen have literally just arrived they will be here for a maximum of 15 mins.
One of the men asked to use my toilet of course that's fine. 10 mins later he emerges. He didn't open the toilet window and left the toilet door open so I can smell a very nasty smell! My bathroom and toilet are seperate and he definitely did not go into the bathroom and wash his hands.
Am I be U to be annoyed at this or am I being a hormonal crazy lady?

I don't mind if workmen use the loo but no shittingAngry

celeste83 · 21/03/2016 22:26

Are toilet brushes not allowed on MN then?

Floggingmolly · 21/03/2016 22:30

If you knew in advance they'd only be in your house for 15 minutes, I wouldn''t have agreed to let him use the loo in the first place; I'd have faked someone taking a shower.
15 minutes, and he spent 10 of them having a shit?

NorthernBird92 · 21/03/2016 22:34

Yep 15 min job it was a 15 min 'making good' appointment from a job carried out last week.

I didn't think to refuse as I didn't think much into it. Suppose it was just a natural reaction to say yes.

Lesson learnt now it will always be no sorry (insert excuse)

i had builders and subcontractors in my house for 6 months.
i also live in a high water pressure area so i can hear taps going on and off, so i knew hands weren't being washed as my study is beside our only toilet.
ive had shit left on toilet seat/under seat/on lid.
ive had skid marks left in toilet.

it horrendous but how can you complain - "yes i was listening and im sure they didnt wash their hands after".

i know they're busy but its unhygienic and and unfair.

celeste83 · 21/03/2016 22:44

Pretty sure you are obliged to offer toilet facilities to people you employ/hire though.

ScoutsMam · 21/03/2016 22:55

You don't let me pee on a job and I'll be off to the nearest public toilets and I won't be rushing back! That said, I've managed to never shit on work time and I have IBS.

Twice I've told this on MN today, but be glad he's using your toilet! Back in the day the norm for some was to pee in bottles, and on an empty site they'd shit in a box and just whack it somewhere, sometimes under floors. Be nice to your tradesmen, some of them could curl your hair!

I've worked in offices too, some dirty bastards there. I think tradesmen get a bad rep because it's not some dirty random in the office, it's YOUR toilet, so it feels personal and it more likely to be remembered than when Derek in accounting pebble dashed the mens.

Penguinepenguins · 22/03/2016 10:36

Derek in accounting needs to learn to use a toilet brush too... And I know it's not limited to men as I've seen some vile stuff left by women in offices, we once had notices appear saying "if you drop your handbag spray"

Don't think the OP had any issue in letting this chap use the loo, just that he left it in a disgusting mess and yes she could open a window, open the bleach and clean up after him without complaining but why the f**k should she this is a grown man who should know better and yes it was personal felt
very personal to me as I wiped up a builders piss of my floor, toilet seat etc...

No matter where it is, why is it difficult for people to just clean up after themselves, I dread to think what his home looks like and if Mrs Builder or Mrs Derek are merrily cleaning up after them them there as much to blame.

It's just not acceptable, to go into any toilet and leave the next visitor a parting gift. People need to learn some bloody manners.

peggyundercrackers · 22/03/2016 10:54

I would have thought if he opened the window no doubt someone would complain about him opening their windows without asking and how dare he etc. sometimes you just cant win...

FlowersAndShit · 22/03/2016 11:06

Thankfully I wasn't in to experience the full aftermath of his poo (which according to DH was horrendous) but as soon as my coat was off I had bleached and disinfected the loo door handles and all.

Did you put your hazmat suit on as well? Hmm

EnoughAlready999 · 22/03/2016 11:43

I let a workman (fitting oven) use my loo, only for a wee, forgetting that I'd done a huge poo earlier that wouldn't flush! Sooo embarrassed! Blush

Penguinepenguins · 22/03/2016 11:45

I'd be mortified... And then blame the DP, cat...

BummyMummy77 · 23/03/2016 14:26

I have to say I think men have some weird poo thing where they need to go IMMEDIATELY. I know DH and past boyfriends freak out when they need to go and can't hold it.

Maybe it's less of a man thing and more of a small child and not realising you need to go until it's too late thing.

Maybe that says something about my choice of men. I go for guys with delay meant issues. Or fecal issues.

Anyway, was the brush next to the loo? If so then he's a dirty, nasty, lazy scumbag.

Rebecca2014 · 23/03/2016 14:28

I had a workman piss all over my toilet seat, couldn't believe it. Do they think it's an macho thing to do? Vile

whois · 23/03/2016 15:28

yabu not to have hand washing facilities in the toilet.

Loads of council flats in london have a saps rate toilet to the bathroom (where the sink is). My friends that live in such arrangements generally put on of those alcohol gel bottles on top of the toilet but it's not as good as a proper hand wash.

CreepingDogFart · 23/03/2016 15:40

It's fine for someone to use the toilet but not fine for them to empty their guts out and leave evidence.

Janecc · 23/03/2016 17:46

Workmen often pee in a bucket in the back of the van if it's enclosed. So if they need to use it, it is often for a no2. Even though they can be dirty plods, they're still people. It could be that or soil themselves in your house. All in all I'd rathe the former. And even when they do wash their hands they leave dirt streaks all over the towel.

MustBeThin · 23/03/2016 18:21

I'm supposed to be having a new kitchen fitted this year and this thread has made me feel ill Shock I'm not bothered about them having a poo if they need one but I don't think I want to have to clean up their skid marks and pissy toilet seat. Hopefully they'll be clean Grin

I've noticed some women are pretty rank too. Loads of times I've been stood washing/drying my hands in public loos when someone's come out of the cubicle, checked their hair or done their lipstick and left without any hand washing. Hmm then I've got to touch the door handle to get out Envy

Jonesey1972 · 23/03/2016 20:48

Jesus... Is it really that big a deal? Clean your loo and the door handle and move on!

Floggingmolly · 23/03/2016 20:53

Of course it's a big deal, Jonesey. It's a complete stranger's shit!!

Jonesey1972 · 23/03/2016 21:13

IN THE TOILET! That is what they're for...

celeste83 · 23/03/2016 21:15

Poo is poo though isn't it? What difference really is your poo to someone elses?

Jonesey1972 · 23/03/2016 21:21

Exactly! I don't get the hysteria this thread has whipped up at all.

Crazypetlady · 23/03/2016 22:35

I feel sorry for some of these workmen. If it was in any other place of work it would be YABU what if they've got ibs.

VulcanWoman · 24/03/2016 03:26

Any other place! No toilet anywhere needs to be left in a state, are you one of these people that does this then? How is
IBS a good excuse? If you've made a mess, clean the F'in mess up with the toilet brush or toilet paper, why would you think this is exceptable, for someone else to do your dirty work for you, the mind boggles.
