Sporners AIBU - DP with a TWO year old blackthorn in his knuckle

Tree surgeon. Its just sat there floating around. When he makes a fist I can SEE it under the skin. You can move it around with your finger. A big lumpy blackthorn just sitting there waiting to come out...

AIBU to think he should let me get it out (not sure how, would probably need a scalpel). He 'hasn't got time to go to the GP'...can you imagine the gunk that will come out of it!

Place marking.

No shame, me.

waxweasel · 21/03/2016 15:46

My dad has a ruddy great splinter in the palm of his hand. It's a good few inches long and has been there THIRTY YEARS. Maybe one day it will just burst to the surface?

ephemeralfairy · 21/03/2016 16:47

PICTURE!!!

StuRedman · 21/03/2016 16:48

Place marking for the picture.

Witchend · 21/03/2016 17:12

Have you told him he's never had so many ladies interested in pointy bits of him before? Wink

onecurrantbun1 · 21/03/2016 17:31

This could be as good as DH's carbuncle. Still waiting for it to refill like the GP promised warned could happen.

GlitteryShoes · 21/03/2016 17:41

If you are in the North Wedt, I could provide Emla cream to numb it. I just don't get these non dedicated sporn era. If it gets infected after DIY surgery, there are even more sporn possibilities Grin

amysmummy12345 · 21/03/2016 17:45

Is he home yet????

FranksBobot · 21/03/2016 17:48

Get a picture and then LTB Sad

Pantone363 · 21/03/2016 17:51

Right not sure if you'll be able to see it properly! It's the knuckle above my thumb, that white area is above the thorn and you can move it left to right about 5mm. Gooey and hard underneath.

He says you're all a right bunch of weirdos

We're a bunch of weirdos? He's the weirdo, leaving something for that long. We're normal. Halo

Pantone363 · 21/03/2016 17:53

He says he thinks it's actually pointing down stuck into the knuckle bone. Won't let me near it.

OP posts:
GlitteryShoes · 21/03/2016 17:53

Just stick a needle in it and see if anything happens.

RuggerHug · 21/03/2016 17:54

May I be the first to thank you for the pic. Now get on with it! (As far as is safe)Wink

RuggerHug · 21/03/2016 17:55

Well if he thinks it's in the bone then get yourselves to a professional. With video recording device in your hand.Grin

ToastyMcToastface · 21/03/2016 18:00

I have scalpels (for cake decorating!) and needless to say they are ridiculously sharp. It'd be very very easy to accidentally cut too far/deep with a real scalpel, stay well away OP's DH!

TheCrimsonPleb · 21/03/2016 18:01

Well this whole thread has been a revelation. I wonder if it will work itself out?

Pantone363 · 21/03/2016 18:03

It's been in there over 2 years, don't think it's going anywhere on its own

OP posts:
CantChoose · 21/03/2016 18:13

Hate to be a killjoy but please don't try and dig it out yourself. And I love sporn as much as the next person....

I'd be surprised if your GP would try themselves (I wouldn't!) but might need to refer you on. Depends on their background though, I've never had a surgical inclination...

takeonefortheteam · 21/03/2016 18:17

Are Blackthorn the same as sloes?
I had a thorn stuck in my hand making sloe gin of course and it got really infected that lead to cellulitis. I felt grim and had to have two lots of antibiotics.
Watch out for infection & suggest the GP at the first sign of redness, swelling & pain.

MimsyBorogroves · 21/03/2016 18:28

Jab the blighter with a needle whilst distracting him with food.

Works for cutting toddler toenails...

BlueRaptor · 21/03/2016 18:35

A few years ago my DP had a thorn stuck in his back from falling into a bush (whole other story!) for ages I wanted to get it and he wouldn't let me near it. Woke up in the night once to bloody covers - the damn thing had essentially burst out his skin (by this point it had been in there probably 2 years or so). It was still half stuck in so he had to let me fish the rest out. So sad I didn't take pictures Grin totally feel your pain, was so relieved when it finally was out!

Lanark2 · 21/03/2016 18:35

This is weird. In me, thorns dissolve eventually, and even creosoted splinters do . they go rubbery on the way!

ICJump · 21/03/2016 20:04

What about mag paste to draw it up to the surface first

madmomma · 21/03/2016 20:06

LTB!
