Indian vegetables (microwaved dinner for a supermarket) with a fried egg on top... And a chopped tomato on the side.

WTF Scribblegirl! Envy boaksome Envy😂

NerrSnerr · 17/03/2016 20:25

Fair enough you didn't like it but who has a mini rant at someone who has gone to the effort of cooking tea for you? Say thank you, eat what you can, pretend you're full and pop to the chippie on the way home!!

Katarzyna79 · 17/03/2016 20:30

egg and spices actually famous indopak dish. spicy egg curry some ppl put bits of potato with it too. But its made very dry buna curry not saucy its deelish. Boiled eggs are used though. a childhood classic mum used to make, makes a change to all the meat and fish we constantly have.

but not like how OP mentioned doesn't sound too appetising......

skankingpiglet · 17/03/2016 20:35

I went to Malaysia a few years ago and a regular Indian/Malay breakfast we had was dhal, with a fried egg and fresh roti, which isn't that far removed from your dinner. It was delicious and something I do at home (although usually for lunch) on occasion now.

FarQueueFarkYou · 17/03/2016 20:35

Yeah I know NerrSnerr, I am staying overnight though! I have apologised now, I do feel bad

FarQueueFarkYou · 17/03/2016 20:36

Skanking that sounds delicious - my dry veg sounds a tad less exciting than dhal though Smile As I mentioned, it's not the combo itself that I don't like, more the individual ingredients!!

YABU for moaning at your mum, it's polite say you're full if you don't like it.

defineme · 17/03/2016 20:39

I would love it, but it is very low calorie and the chopped tomatoes are random, very rude to complain.

HemanOrSheRa · 17/03/2016 20:41

It does sound a bit odd OP. But Katerzyna's sounds bloody gorgeous. I LOVE egg and potato curry. Maybe with some cauliflower too. Actually I love cauliflower curry. But it doesn't like me.

Katarzyna79 · 17/03/2016 20:46

far I don't think I like ready made meals in general I see them as emergency snacks I'm never satisfied with ready made, ive grown up on home made meals, and do the same for my kids. I know its convenient for many especially if working full time or even ill or fussy kdis but ive tried it and I cant do it.

skank I'm south Asian I just couldn't eat what you mentioned or any spicy food first thing. my husband has told me in Bangladesh (where my parents come from) some ppl do eat spicy food in the morning not just spicy I mean savoury as in foods we associate with lunch and dinner. It depends on their wealth. some folks have vermicelli with coconut, milk, spiced sugared water, sultanas thrown in, maybe even some date palm sugar. poor folks may have plain white rice because thats all theyve got until they catch lunch by the riverside.

I prefer toast, poached eggs tea .

When I was younger though on a sunday around 11am id be like a machine rolling out and cooking chappatis whilst my mum got a big pot of chicken or lamb with sweet pumpkin cooked. We'd have that before lunch, aww I loved that, not making it though id be there ages huge family id be eating last but I still loved it lool
I'm waiting for my kids to grow up into teens then I will replicate it ;)

I guess its just abnormal in the west, but its on par with a cooked English breaskfast ? Ppl have bacon tomatoes eggs, sausages as a sunday thing right? so not so weird I suppose.

TheCrumpettyTree · 17/03/2016 21:06

Yes it's a weird dinner. Eggs go nicely on toast not on random vegetables. And why would you put salt on a tomato?

Tubbyinthehottub · 17/03/2016 21:06

Ew, no. I don't agree with egg and spice together. I know it was on top but it's still wrong.

Donthate · 17/03/2016 21:21

I used to have a similar dish in Malaysia too. It was delicious. Yours sounds odd but I wouldn't have been rude.

queenMab99 · 17/03/2016 21:26

Vegetable byriani from indian takeaway in Bury, always had a fried egg and fresh cucumber/ tomato on top. It's traditional!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/03/2016 21:26

And why would you put salt on a tomato?

Was there a missing 'not' there? Raw tomatoes are much, much improved by a liberal grinding of salt and pepper.

queenMab99 · 17/03/2016 21:28

Traditional in Bury. perhaps not in IndiaGrin

FarQueueFarkYou · 17/03/2016 21:29

queenMab yes but this wasn't even a curry - there was no rice, and no sauce, just a pile of spiced bland vegetables - with an egg!

Gasp0de - finally sanity Grin

I could murder an egg biryani with a veg curry right now. Side of cucumber, onion and tomato salad with mint.

JanetOfTheApes · 17/03/2016 21:35

Why would you NOT put salt on a tomato? Confused

AtSea1979 · 17/03/2016 21:40

I'm confused, I thought you worked for a supermarket testing new products!

ouryve · 17/03/2016 21:42

Sounds perfectly lovely! Fried eggs and grilled tomatoes are somthing I often serve alongside food with Indian spices (eg one of the Sainsburys frozen burgers, or some leftover onion bhajis) for my lunch. A really perfect match.

BigQueenBee · 17/03/2016 21:47

Sounds like a well balanced meal if you ask me. I cook from scratch most of the time but always but frozen desi spinach ( kale, spinach, cabbage and few aromatics) it's cheaper than making it from scratch.

ouryve · 17/03/2016 21:48

Actually, looking at the source of the spiced veg, they probably were somewhat lacking I'm not averse to a ready meal, but I've never had one from Tesco that I've enjoyed.

TheCrumpettyTree · 17/03/2016 21:55

I don't put salt on tomato because I don't put salt on anything apart from chips because I don't want my all food to taste of salt.

Katarzyna79 · 17/03/2016 23:00

tubby if you like indian food google Bengali or bangla egg curry, nothing in it but egg and maybe potato dry curry, try it and then tell me if you hate it. if you do well i cant make you like it, but as weird as it sounds its tasty.

if you don't like Asian food at all then no you wont like it.
