To not "get" the fascination over Lena Dunham?

I know to many people she represents a lot of things but I can't help but want to throw her in the shower when I see her.

Exactly PaulAnka (great name! I hope he's in the new GG). She's so detached from the real world it's bizarre. I wonder what the reaction would be if she were a man.

RudeElf · 16/03/2016 22:30

She's a complete narcissist. Anyone seen her on the Graham Norton interview

Is that when she was drunk (or pretend drunk) and did the whole "fake lesbian" flirting with another guest whilst a totally different guest was trying to talk about their new show/film/something? They kept pausing because she was being so giddy and distracting. I didnt even know who she was then and i was furious on that other guest's behalf. What a knob.

'They could a pile of horse shit and get a tv pilot because of their surname'

Yep, pretty much. Look at the Kardashians.

I was quite excited to watch Girls when it came out. But it was awful, it was getting so much praise I stuck with it in case there was some great nuance I was missing due to my new parent state. I made it through a season and a half and finally concluded that it has to be a case of the Emperor having no clothes. It's a bad, bad show and her writing has all the self-important pomp but no substance of a first year film student. But her contacts got her a HBO show so reviewers decided she must be great and a lot of viewers went along with it, unable to admit that it's just childish drivel.

And ironically the way she conceals her lack of imperial clothes is to actually wear no clothes, so instead of focusing on how awful her show is, everyone talks about how 'brave' she is to be willing to bare her imperfect body to the camera. In. Every. Single. Episode. For no story purpose whatsoever.

Yanbu and what Scarlet said.

HoundoftheBaskervilles · 16/03/2016 23:37

If you really want to be overcome with nausea, watch her interview with Caitlin Moran on Youtube.

That was a mutual ego-masturbation session nobody needed to witness.

WaitrosePigeon · 17/03/2016 06:26

Yep, can't stand her. And yes the way she looks is a deciding factor.

Capricorn76 · 17/03/2016 06:35

Caitlin Moran damaged her reputation in more ways than one with her fawning over Lena Dunham. The cringy sycophancy and the 'I don't do race' thing made her look very stupid. I was kind of meh about her before but I now see her in a new light a new lightweight sleb light and I can't take her seriously.

Capricorn76 · 17/03/2016 06:39

Her looks should have nothing to do with whether you like her or not. She looks like a totally normal woman on the street and it's great that not everybody has to be thin and blond. It's her work that I take issue with and the fawning over her as being a young feminist icon.

19lottie82 · 17/03/2016 08:20

I love Girls. It's hilarious. I understand it may not be to a lot of people's tastes / humour sect, but I think it's fucking awesome and it never fails to make me LOL Grin

Big Lena fan here. I love going straight to the comments section whenever there is an article about her on the Daily Mail website, just to see the haters all start going off on one!

If she was a size 8 and classically "pretty", would she get so much abuse thrown at her? No.

splendide · 17/03/2016 08:54

I thought the first couple of seasons of Girls were excellent but then it dropped off. I don't know if I'd say I like her exactly but I think she's interesting and talented and has never pretended to be from a poor background or anything.

splendide · 17/03/2016 09:10

And actually I do think the disproportionate hatred some people seem to have of her (not on this thread but certainly online generally) is to do with her not keeping in her place. It's pathetic.

AgainstTheGlock · 17/03/2016 09:25

Hideous self-absorbed creature. I used to think she dressed that badly on Girls as part of the show - but she actually dresses like that IRL.

She is the single one reason why skater/tea dresses should be outlawed - fugly. Every time someone on S&B suggests a skater dress to disguise "faults" I want to post a pic of Lena in one of her god-awful unflattering curtains.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 17/03/2016 09:30

It's bugger all to do with her not being classically pretty or 'her not keeping in her place'. Hmm It's to do with her being as self absorbed, narcissist, who seems to think that because she is who she is, she can write pretty questionable things in her autobiography and prance about like the big I Am.

Well, that's what it is for me.

I hate this attitude that because we dislike someone who 'rebels' from the societal norms it's because we are trying to keep them down. Perhaps we just think she's a pain in the ass.

AppleSetsSail · 17/03/2016 09:34

Girls is a very clever programme.

I am unfamiliar with her real-life persona, but I had breakfast next to her in Venice and was pretty star-struck.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 17/03/2016 09:51

AgainstTheGlock

you sound.....mean! put those claws away

whos next on your appearance hit list? Theresa May?

BirthdayBetty · 17/03/2016 09:53

To me it's nothing to do with looks. It's about the person. I agree with Paul.

splendide · 17/03/2016 09:58

Yeah, I know that not everybody who dislikes her does so because she's not pretty and I did say I didn't think it was people in this thread. I probably just need to get off twitter.

shins · 17/03/2016 10:01

Yes, I don't like the catty remarks about her appearance, women slagging her off for that are letting themselves down. I don't like her because she's shallow, narcissistic and clearly over-promoted through nepotism. I couldn't care less how she looks.

feellikeahugefailure · 17/03/2016 11:09

Can anyone thats read the book give a few choice quotes?
