For my DS to eat.

I've just cooked a lovely and healthy meal, from scratch! And DS won't touch it. Yes, the bread is homemade.

He is 3.
The reason it's too, red.

Brew
For my DS to eat.

Maybe because you had a stand off argument with him about tidying toys for three hours Shock he took back the little control he had by not eating.

Just sayin'

OP all my kids would eat that.....especially the flatbread. they know how to tear and dip!

my 3 yr old would prob leave the lettuce, but eat the rest of the salad bits.

and maybe my kids are little porkers cos the size looks fine to me?

i hate prawns....and salad...but would nibble your bread to be polite lol....

MadSprocker · 15/03/2016 19:29

Blush my post came out wrong. First, pp are saying the portions are too big, then another poster says that there aren't enough calories, thereby contradicting each other. Was kind of my point. Am I making more sense now? Op join the sandwich toaster thead, where carbs are celebrated.

Naoko · 15/03/2016 19:30

Christ, what the hell folks, it looks nice. I'd eat it, I'd have eaten it when I was 3 too, I loved prawns. Maybe a bit much for a 3 year old but presumably OP wasn't going to make him eat more of it than he fancied.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 15/03/2016 19:36

DD had a pancake and a Babybel. My advice is definitely not going to help Grin

Jw35 · 15/03/2016 19:36

Mm looks yum! Not sure salad as a main meal works with toddlers though? I'd do the prawns in a jacket potato personally and have a side salad. Maybe it's too crunchy and feels a bit daunting?

ArcheryAnnie · 15/03/2016 19:37

I'd eat it, even on a red plate.

Ignore the people being rude, OP. I'd have been bloody delighted if mine would have looked at salad at 3.

Am a bit Confused at MinecraftyMum - when has "baking your own homemade bread" not been cooking? And as for preparing cold food - are you going to pop down the River Cafe and tell them all their cold dishes aren't really cooking, too? Ridiculous.

MinecraftyMum · 15/03/2016 19:53

Salad for a 3 year old is pointless. They need calories

Is that a joke?

Yes, they need calories but they also need vitamins and nutrients...y'know, the stuff that's in salad. Mine have salad with every lunch and have done since they were able to pick up a carrot stick.

OP, I was joking with cooking comment (hence the grin)...someone further down included me in their 'nasty cunts' comment...I really wasn't being.

Anyway, I think that's a fine meal. Good protein, salad, carbs. Mine wouldn't touch any mayo or marie rose on it but they've had similar many times, just plain.

Thatrabbittrickedme · 15/03/2016 19:53

It looks delicious OP. I and my DC would eat it happily (well DC would unless they were having a contrary day...).

Prawns are considered a very great delicacy in this house Smile. I think your LO may be feeling a bit under the weather.

MinecraftyMum · 15/03/2016 19:54

I also think the portion is fine...if that was a plate of same-sized pasta it would probably be far too big/filling, but for salad and prawns it's just about right.

Narp · 15/03/2016 19:56

That looks lovely, but lots of children have a real problem with the volume that's on that plate, and the fact that's it's all mixed up. A lot of children are affected by texture, even if the taste is good

RJnomore1 · 15/03/2016 19:59

Mines would have eaten that at three. Dd2 in particular would have bitten your hand off for it. Add some olives and she'd have been in heaven.

It looks lovely op. I'm sure he's just a bit off colour x

PastaLaFeasta · 15/03/2016 20:11

Our DC were offered prawn salad today, it was shop bought DHs idea but seemed reasonable. They didn't touch it, I don't know if that's because it's prawns or had sauce etc but they are both poorly and have only eaten sweets today really, same with me and DH, there's some awful bug going around. Otherwise there's no reason to have thought this wasn't a good enough option, especially if he's had it before. I loved prawns as a kid, less so after food poisoning from them during pregnancy.

fluffypenguinbelly · 15/03/2016 20:12

My three year old would love that and easily eats that much when on top form.

He would not like the prawns to be on the salad though. Just next to it. You have committed a food touching other food sin.

Seryph · 15/03/2016 20:14

Looks lovely OP. I would unfortunately have to pass on the prawn cocktail (I don't like the sauce), but I'd've told you that in advance and had the salad and prawns (with some lemon juice if you have it!) and the bread happily!

He might be coming down with something, or he might just be 3 and having one of those days. Keep an eye on him and try again tomorrow!

Grilledaubergines · 15/03/2016 20:15

OP it looks delicious, all of it.

It's not separate meals at all, how ridiculous!

And as for it being adult food. Well unless it's been shaped like a penis and is set on an X-rated plate, it's just food. For everyone. I'm not sure what 'child' food would consist of, unless it's everything beige and breadcrumbed and that's what those posters mean.

So this evening's meal wasn't so successful. No matter. Scoff it yourself. I so wish I was in the south west

APlaceOnTheCouch · 15/03/2016 20:17

I don't think there's adult food and kid food. I always made DS smaller portions of what I was eating. which would never have been prawns because I hate them He's generally a good eater and quite adventurous about trying new food.

But when he used to turn his nose up at something I knew he liked, I'd re-arrange it on the plate so it looked more fun then serve it up again, and more likely than not, he'd eat it. Grin

MummaV · 15/03/2016 20:20

Looks lovely to me! I'm in the southwest and starving so if it's going begging let me know!
DD is not yet one so wouldn't eat it however she'd give it all a go!

MiniCooperLover · 15/03/2016 20:22

I think that looks lovely and my nieces would demolish the prawns (4 and 2), my son likes prawns too, but there is a lot of food there, sorry. That in itself would stop my DS eating it, if he's presented with too much he panics and won't eat any.

GibbousHologram · 15/03/2016 20:22

Adult food: the food adults in your house eat.
Child food: the food children in your house eat, typically, but not exclusively, beige and breadcrumbed.

It's really not hard.

If you don't need to categorise food this way, good for you, give yourself a 'I'm a great parent' badge.

Grilledaubergines · 15/03/2016 20:26

No, I don't categorise food this way. Everyone has the same food in this house. Nothing to do with being a great parent. Something to do with giving a shit what my DC eat. Is there a badge to cover that?

GibbousHologram · 15/03/2016 20:32

I give a shit that my DC eat.

But I'm sure you're doing it right.

HermioneJeanGranger · 15/03/2016 20:32

Food is just food Confused I know plenty of adults who would happily live off nuggets and chips, and toddlers who would curries, seafood and other more "exotic" foods.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 15/03/2016 20:33

Or in my case, it could be 'I'm a lazy parent who'd rather prepare one meal for everybody than cook different food for each person' badge but tbf that would need to be quite a big badge.
