Luckily I don't have to go to my guy at the weekend, but popped in today to get conditioner and freaking hell it was like a bloody creche.

Why do women get kids hair done ( for mega bucks) and nice ADULT salons.

I know, i know, they pay the money etc but just go to the salon which is a bit shit instead please - or get the mobile woman

OP posts:

My lovely niece and god daughter is the most beautiful child and there's not one dodgy photo of her wearing something dreadful or with a bad hair do.

Every photo of me as a child I look a bit unfortunate - like one of the scruffy kids from "why don't you". Bit neglected looking, bad flares, various tartan outfits ( bay city rollers), completely unbrushed hair, various bits of dirt or snot everywhere.

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 12/03/2016 19:38

I take my 12 year old to a proper salon and all I get in return is an afternoon of her weeping and pulling faces in the mirror , next time I will cut it myself, half cut, with pinking shears

TurnOffTheTv · 12/03/2016 19:41

£60?? For a haircut? Grin That is not swanky!

Peaceandloveeveryone · 12/03/2016 19:45

I paid for my 13 year old to have a Brazilian blow dry last week, come judge me

elevenweekstogo · 12/03/2016 19:48

My 2 year old looks like stig of the flicking dump most of the time....I need to take him to a swanky salon so it at least looks like I try

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 12/03/2016 20:00

I don't know whether to be more shocked by the OP posting "ew children" on Mumsnet, or the people saying that £60 for a haircut is not swanky.

If you can't get a decent haircut for under £20 then you live in an area with really shit hairdressers.

SoupDragon · 12/03/2016 20:02

If you can't get a decent haircut for under £20 then you live in an area with really shit hairdressers.

Nonsense.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 12/03/2016 20:03

Nonsense.

Nope.

SoupDragon · 12/03/2016 20:04

Yes it is. It has nothing to do with shit hairdressers at all.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 12/03/2016 20:05

Surely if any haircut under £20 is shit then yes, there are shit hairdressers there?

MetalMidget · 12/03/2016 20:05

Send them all out with a fringe like the guitarist from Slade! That'll sort them

Horrifying... childhood... flashbacks...

My mom used to cut my hair, it was terrible. Q_Q

SoupDragon · 12/03/2016 20:06

It's just the same as saying "if you can get a decent haircut for under £20 you must live in a shit area". Utter nonsense.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/03/2016 20:07

Or a mullet. S'Been ages since I saw a good mullet.

Unfortunate haircuts are a right of passage

jazzandh · 12/03/2016 20:07

Mid Kent - decent out of town Salon, senior stylist £75. Cuts my hair very well.....boys charged £15 after school or holidays but full price at weekends!

That was a bit ouch when DS1 needed a mid-term cut - he doesn't get back from school much before 5/6pm - so after school appointments don't work......

Peaceandloveeveryone · 12/03/2016 20:09

I had a beautiful mullet in the 80s.

JenEric · 12/03/2016 20:10

DS goes to a naice barbers with his dad. He loves it and is always well behaved. They are fantastic with him. DDs go to my hairdressers. Never had any issues. They just sit there get a haircut then we leave. Last time we went they didn't even talk Grin

Princecharlesfirstwife · 12/03/2016 20:11

I didn't realise that people actually bought their conditioner from the hairdresser. I thought those bottles were just for display tbh. I buy my conditioner from Aldi for £1.99 for a big old family sized bottle and still have luscious hair.

Princecharlesfirstwife · 12/03/2016 20:12

*luscious? lustrous perhaps. Although it could be luscious. I will ask dh.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 12/03/2016 20:13

Not saying anything about a shit area, Soup, I think you're a tad sensitive Grin

I just find the idea of £60 not being absolutely extortionate for a decent haircut very much "how the other half live"... and a worrying reflection on your local hairdressers if they can't do a half-decent attempt under that price...

JohnCheese · 12/03/2016 20:13

Funny thread.

But seriously £30 for a child's haircut? You are all BU. How fancy are these 8 year old kids' haircuts??

OP I'm sure the pizza was an organic sugar free salt free 'additive' (wtf) free gluten free base, 'additive' free, made by virgins at dawn, and an absolute steal at just £40 per pizza.

As for the mobile ones, lifesaver! And for mine,it was a lifestyle choice, he's fab. He just got fed up of all the kids on a Saturday Grin Grin

Alchemist · 12/03/2016 20:16

I was 13 in the early 80s and had very long hair. I persuaded my Mam to perm my hair. This was necessary as I was a hippy. She did the perm and it was just what I wanted but my fringe was a little bit too long.

She chopped it just like Friar Tuck which meant I had a tiny "fringe" and wild, curly and lovely frizz mass of hair surrounding my face.

I found tugging on the "fringe" did not make it grow and had a very short hair cut the next week.

I wish she had taken me to a salon :( but also realise she did it on purpose Grin.

bettyberry · 12/03/2016 20:25

For me a haircut is 'me time' so If I've got rid of my kids for an hour to have my hair done the last thing I want is someone else's screaming kids to listen too.

The hairdresser I take DC to has child specific days Mon-Wed after school and Saturday am only. She wont see kids after 11am because she frees up the slots for ladies getting ready for weddings/nights out etc good business sense imo

She makes it very clear kids cuts are on those days and it works. I mean, it really works. She is always busy and the cuts are cheap £7-15 per child.

It is bliss! I can get my eyebrows and hair done in a calm environment and feel like the money spent was worth it.

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 12/03/2016 20:25

My daughter goes to a decent salon. She's only just turned thirteen, but has an asymmetric bob and to be frank most hairdressers in our shithole city can't keep it cut in decently. My 8 and 4 year olds get their hair done at the same time. No whining and little naff conversation unless the 8 year old has been on a fact binge (ASD). The toddler does use an iPad, but he also uses earphones.

We don't go at the weekend though, the shrieking piss artists are a bit off putting ;)

Jaimx86 · 12/03/2016 20:30

Surely all decent conditioner can be bought online?

PunkrockerGirl · 12/03/2016 20:32

£30 for a child's haircut
No chance. I don't pay that for myself.
Strangely though, those of us that live in more rural areas have some pretty damn good hairdressers. Good hairdressers are not confined to big cities Confused
I've never been bothered by kids at my salon, I took my own dc there when they were school age (they're in their 20's now). They were never, ever allowed to run around, be noisy or annoy other customers.
