when would you consider walk in/hospital

I am more than positive ds1 has a virus, he is aching all over and cant walk or barely talk as when he does he goes all dizzy and his eyes wobble... We have given his Calpol and Ibuprofen and his temp is still 41.8, his temp originally was 42.4 a hour ago.

should we wait it out or consider taking him?

Sorry forgot to say he's stripped down to his under pants and we have a fan that is blowing on him, (cool air, not cold) he is very hot to touch.

I would ring 111 I think they would advise going to hospital as you need to get his temp down. You've waited an hour and his temp is still dangerously high. Hope he's better soon.

If his temperature is that high, take him to hospital now. It may not be a virus and he will become dehydrated very quickly. Good luck.

I'd call and ask them what they recommend. How long did it take for his temperature to drop? If it's been a recent drop it could be his fever has broken, in which case I would just regularly monitor it and if it continues to drop hold out.

But him not being able to walk or talk would concern me enough to call and check. Also if there's any particularly bad local viruses doing the rounds at the moment then the walk in centre would know about them. How old is ds1? If very young I would probably take him anyway.

That is a very dangerous temp. You must get him to a hospital asap.

Which ever is closest - that's a really high temperature, I'd want him examined asap.

How old is he? I don't think you're meant to artificially cool them down anymore?

Contact out of hours,any temperature in a child that won't go down needs looking into, hope he's ok op.

Sorry just re read the bit about an hour ago. If he's drinking fluids I would still call and ask their advice if his temp continues to fall, but others are right it is very high and if you're worried, you know your son best so it wouldn't be unreasonable to take him in x

If A&E is close go I'd go there,if not i would ring for advice.

ds is 10 and never ill... his brother on the other hand...

it took a hour to go down we first gave hima dose of calpol at 6.30am and then the ibuprofen at 7.15 when it went down a little more.

Phne 111 as they'll advices you where best to take him and it will be logged, then if he has to go to hospital they'll have it recorded and will be expecting him. At least that's what happened when I had to take my daughter in.

When my DS was ill my GP told me that a temperature of 40 or above needs medical attention.

I would just go straight to A&E personally.

I hope it's nothing and he perks up soon. Poor thing must feel rotten.

It's hard to judge whether you're over reacting sometimes, but you're doing the right thing. Better to have a medical professional rule out anything sinister given his symptoms.

Temperatures that high need medical attention imo. Dd1 was really hot and Drs said to keep an eye on it to make sure it didn't go over 40. When it did, she was admitted to hospital.
