To prefer the smell of actual tobacco to that teeth coatingly sweet chemical vape crap.

I'm not talking as a smoker.. As a passive smoker.. Or just someone in the street. To me at least tobacco has that old world, masculine adventure, growing, curing, industry craft historic smell. The vape sweet crap is just like gobbling down an air freshener.

I would actually prefer to be around actual camcery smoke than the pink-smelling horror or the vape. Anyone else?

Ds has one of them big tank things that produce clouds of vapour. I hate it, it's sweet and nasty. Dh has a blu e cig and the smell vanishes quickly.

MistressDeeCee · 11/03/2016 19:13

I vape and can no longer stand the smell of cigarettes but I do like the smell of rolling tobacco. Vape Liquid smell evaporates in a nanosecond it doesn't hang around, nobody can tell Ive been vaping unless they see me do it, likewise I can't tell with anyone. The smell doesn't hang in the air and people who say it does are pretending, normally as a roundabout preamble to intimating its as bad as smoking really.

What about all those farmers in Virginia though?

Tobacco farmers are no worse off if vaping takes over - the nicotine comes from somewhere!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 12/03/2016 20:55

I do sometimes miss the smell of a freshly opened packet of Golden Virginia, but like other vapers here I no longer like the smell of burning tobacco.

There are literally thousands of different vape flavours. Which particular ones do you not like? I don't think mine is 'pink-smelling', more a gentle golden brown if I was to give it a colour Grin The good thing (for you) is that vape clouds don't hang in the air like smoke and there's no sidestream like there is with smoking. Nobody should be blowing Big Clouds at you but it's a matter of etiquette not public health, so that's a huge advantage over smoking.

In the end though, it's not about you. Vapers switch from smoking because they don't want to die early or spend their last decades without their legs, or lugging around an oxygen tank. Many of us have tried just about every other quit method going and thought that nothing would work for us until we discovered vaping. So give us a break, eh?

It's great that I'm no longer a health hazard to people around me but I find it very hard to care if someone catches a brief whiff of my vape and doesn't like the smell.

Ginmakesitallok · 12/03/2016 21:01

Propylene glycol isn't an oil - it's a diol. Vegetable glycerine isn't an oil. The flavourings aren't oils. Vaping an oil would be a very bad idea.

MitzyLeFrouf · 12/03/2016 21:02

I don't especially like the smell of vaping but I can't say it especially bothers me either. I often walk past two old blokes who stand outside a local pub puffing on their pipes. What a beautiful smell that is! It's like being caught in a big cloak of different sweet and smoky scents.

I'd hate to live with a pipe smoker but what a gorgeous smell of catch a whiff of every once in a while.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 12/03/2016 21:04

Missyaggravation - Propylene glycol etc are oils

No this is incorrect. PG and VG are technically alcohols but won't get you pissed. This might seem nit-picky but it's important to point out that there is no oil in eliquid because inhaling oil is very bad for you and can lead to lipoid pneumonia.

Camping can well fill up a car.

Toxicity, I vape as a lifestyle choice. I have no intention of stopping and never did. Why do you think otherwise?

I vape tobacco 'flavoured' and find it bizarre to go for custard, blueberry etc. (yy it's bizarre to be hooked on tobacco/nicotine but the horse has bolted on that I'm afraid). That said, I have never smelt anyone else's vape and no-one has ever said they could smell mine.

Camping can well fill up a car?!?

A thousand times

If you're not a smoker and have fucking idea how hard it is and what a Godsend vaping is to us, please just have a bit of compassion and tolerance?

Destinysdaughter · 12/03/2016 21:33

*no fucking!!

Destinysdaughter · 12/03/2016 21:37

In fact I'm gobsmacked that there aren't loads of anti smoking pp saying OMG isn't vaping bloody amazing! My DH, DS, DM Dwhatever isn't smoking those disgusting stinky fags any more and they're using those nice smelling, non harmful e cigs now and I'm so happy!

But have there been any of those threads? On my last count. Zero.

springydaffs · 12/03/2016 21:50

Absolutely Destiny! Vaping has been a GODSEND to me. I despaired of ever being able to stop smoking after endless attempts and devices with zero lasting effect (or any effect at all for most of it - except maybe ants crawling over my scalp and terrifying dreams...)

Three cheers for the marvellous wonderful e-cig I say. Rah rah rah.

I quit with an ecig over two years ago after smoking heavily for 25 years. I too had tried literally everything else with absolutely no success but haven't smoked a single cigarette since the day I started vaping. I don't necessarily intend stopping either, I'm down to the lowest nicotine strength now so I guess if I wake up one morning and decide I don't want to vape anymore I just won't but I don't mind if it never happens. I don't understand the anti smokers being anti vaping either, passive vaping isn't harmful, the smell doesn't linger and I don't see how being exposed to a vape smell you don't like is any worse than getting a noseful of someone's perfume which isn't to your taste. Some people are never happy I guess Confused
