To think the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge need to work on their PR strategy?

In recent months they've been accused of being work shy and what's their solution? To release photos of them and the children on a luxury skiing break! Now I don't begrudge them a holiday, but why make it so public? If they wanted to release photos of the kids then they could've just released a few shots of George and Charlotte at Kensington Palace or Anmer Hall. I don't know who is advising them on their PR but AIBU to think they need to engage someone a bit more in touch with public sentiment?

Many journalists refrain from even saying that they're not allowed to say anything about specific areas of KM's life pre-marriage.

gonetoseeamanaboutadog · 03/04/2016 19:15

How considerate of them.

Like they care.

sparechange · 04/04/2016 15:43

I'm ConfusedGrin and Hmmat the idea that the British press is bound by some unspoken code of conduct on what they can write about KMs past.
You really think the Mirror wouldn't publish a kiss and tell by her ex if such thing existed? You either have a very low opinion of the press or a very high opinion of the PR industry

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 04/04/2016 15:46

You either have a very low opinion of the press or a very high opinion of the PR industry

I have neither.

It isn't an 'unspoken rule of conduct.'

And of course you are absolutely free to believe whatever you like.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 04/04/2016 15:46

code

sparechange · 04/04/2016 16:11

first
I've been a journalist and I now work in PR
I have tens of friends working on each side of the fence
It isn't 'what I believe'
It is what I know to be true
But if your hairdresser's dog's Aunt's friend told you, it must be true Hmm

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 04/04/2016 16:21

But if your hairdresser's dog's Aunt's friend told you, it must be true

Oh stop being so rude.

Fine, you're both a journo and PR and so are all your mates. Hmm

I have made a comment. If you choose not to believe it, then truly, that's absolutely fine with me.

Really, go back to the thread and forget my comment since no one except you knows anything about being a journalist or working in PR.

And try taking things a little less personally?

Scattymere · 04/04/2016 16:25

All this Daily Mail love of Diana/Diana had great press stuff by some posters on here is complete rubbish! They were just as critical of her. The night before she died, I remember clear as day as a teenage girl I was sat reading my parents copy of the Mail- on Page 3 ran a story of her on the yacht with Dodi and a "how many expensive, different swimsuits can one woman wear on 1 holiday" type of bitchy, scathing article. Next day, mass outpouring of grief presenting her as this perfect angle they loved all along. Complete hypocrisy. Nothings changed.

sparechange · 04/04/2016 16:29

I'd be really, really interested to know who all these journos are that you think have been bound by this secret agreement though...

Because you've made a pretty bold statement, and have gone awfully prickly when it was pointed out that it is total bullshit questioned.

So you could substantiate your claim rather than try and suggest I've taken things 'too seriously' for not believing wholesale made-up-crap about people I've worked closely with
Or you could admit that it is 4th hand information that you chose to believe because it fits in with your world view of the press and royal family

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 04/04/2016 17:08

Seriously, spare, it's fairly obviously that I haven't 'gone prickly' Grin

For the third time, believe what you wish. You've made it absolutely clear that you know it all, and for some reason decided that I operate on fourth hand information from a dog.

You very obviously cut off any meaningful exchange we might have had with your rather unnecessary rudeness.

It's a thread. We're all entitled to opinions and ours differ. As do our experiences.

I'm moving on from this, as your posting style is confrontational and unpleasant, and closes down any points that might have been made.

gonetoseeamanaboutadog · 04/04/2016 18:22

first you are so obviously bluffing Grin

Canyouforgiveher · 04/04/2016 18:51

Many journalists refrain from even saying that they're not allowed to say anything about specific areas of KM's life pre-marriage.

Ok so british journalists are bound by some sort of code of silence.

What about foreign journalists? Is there a world-wide code being enforced? Amazing if so, since they couldn't even do that during the abdication crisis back in the day.

andintothefire · 04/04/2016 21:03

To be honest, I think it is more likely to be that former boyfriends / girlfriends would not sell a story. The press has been very quick to pick up on stories about Harry, even when he was a teenager - when he thumped a journalist, when he had "help" with his A levels, when he wore a Nazi costume etc. However in my experience the people who surround the younger Royal family members are extremely loyal and know that they would be ostracised by their circle if they ever sold stories to the press. It just isn't done.

gonetoseeamanaboutadog · 04/04/2016 21:27

Maybe there just isn't much dirt on Kate...

LeanneBattersby · 04/04/2016 21:41

I'm with sparechange. I'm also a journalist. Either there's no code of silence, or someone forgot to send me the memo. Grin

Both Kate and Wills have always mixed in über posh circles. They're really not the type to do kiss and tells. They also seem to remain friends with exs, which means that they're less likely to sell stories to the press.

katemiddletonsothermum · 06/04/2016 16:25

Hi. I'm Kate Middleton's Other Mum. And I don't work nearly as hard as her real mum which is why I arse about on Mumsnet all day

Respect for the C.

Kate, get a grip and put a hat on and get out there, love. All you have to do is get in a car, get driven to a front door, shake a few hands, refuse some food and then get driven home again.

sunsetdune · 06/04/2016 16:47

KMsothermum Are you implying that when Kate does do her duties it isn't really work??? Shock Shock Shock

katemiddletonsothermum · 06/04/2016 22:53

Yes. It's not like she's driving a bus or is a shift manager in a toothpaste factory, is it?

VertigoNun · 06/04/2016 23:00

Well I need to put my pearls back on so I can clutch them in horror. Kate not a worker, you will be telling me she doesn't scrub her own loo next.

katemiddletonsothermum · 06/04/2016 23:20

Nah, she puts that white stuff down that melts the poo so that you don't have to scrub it.

BillSykesDog · 06/04/2016 23:54

Nah, she puts that white stuff down that melts the poo so that you don't have to scrub it.

Cocaine?

VertigoNun · 07/04/2016 07:29

Bleach.

Inkanta · 07/04/2016 09:35

They seem to have been out and about a lot lately doing their duty. Love her long blue dress. She has a gorgeous figure.

katemiddletonsothermum · 07/04/2016 11:17

She's been reading this thread.

Harpic White & Shine. Putting the loo brush industry out of business.

SamanthaBrique · 13/04/2016 18:17

I must say that on this India tour Kate looks happier and more relaxed than we've seen her in a long time. The boho clothes she's wearing really suit her too.
