Anyone had a dental implant and if so how much did it cost?

Having an absolute nightmare with my teeth since the start of my tmj and tooth grinding about 2 years ago. I now have a suspected cracked front tooth and may need it removed. I'm only in my 20s so I'm really upset and don't fancy the idea of a denture or ruining other teeth for a bridge.
Anyone had a successful implant in the UK and how much did it cost?

My dentist charges 2.5k. It might be worth looking into finance options at your surgery if it definitely needs doing and you can't pay upfront.

mamacasshadahairyass · 06/03/2016 10:25

My DH has one. He was in agony for days as the incision in the roof of his mouth got infected. The implant looks great though, far better than his natural teeth Grin

mamacasshadahairyass · 06/03/2016 10:26

Oh, and it cost around £2.5k

holeinmyheart · 06/03/2016 10:31

I have 5 and had invisaline and whitening. I think it cost in the region of £13,000. I am just about to have two more. I had to have a bone graft both times. My dentist is the best with lots of qualifications in facial surgery etc

It is painful afterwards for a week. My face swells up, but it is so worth it. I would have had to have false teeth by now. This last lot cost an additional £4.500. I don't think it is going to be my last either. I am about to have the pegs in. I got a discount for paying up front.

I so wish I had looked after my teeth. It is one of my greatest regrets.
I think implants should be on the NHS. False teeth are horrible.

My Father's false teeth, when he wasn't using them, were everywhere except in his mouth. He said they were not comfortable. When I had to look for them and clean them, it used to make me gag.

However, I realise they are expensive and I am lucky to be able to afford them, but I would have saved up the money somehow to avoid false teeth.

tappitytaptap · 06/03/2016 10:47

£2.5k here (Yorkshire) but not had one actually done. Had a tooth removed which i far back enough you can't really see and also my bottom jaw is pretty crowded so hoping the gap will naturally close a little anyway. Going back in a couple of months to see dentist. If it was a front or other visible tooth I'd have paid no question!

£1800 and it was a right palaver.

MyMoneyIsAllSpent · 06/03/2016 11:17

I had about 7 done and it cost me less than £1k each although that was quite a few years ago.

I would happily recommend him, he is in the SE.

CaptainCrunch · 06/03/2016 11:19

Why don't you explore the crown and post option op? I honestly thought I had an implant but clearly not. It was 2 years ago and all I remember was my final bill was £360. Maybe it included other treatment, I don't remember I just know I'm very happy with the result.

ArielisALiar · 06/03/2016 12:16

Please, please just don't let anyone talk you into having it done abroad! I had dental work done in Piestany, Slovakia because people kept telling me that it was cheaper abroad, but that they use the same materials, and following that advice was the stupidest thing I've ever done. It was one of those clinics that advertises for foreign patients, and it sounds like a good deal when you learn the low prices and fast turnover of those places, but don't do it! People will tell you how cheap it is to get your teeth fixed abroad, but those places prey on desperate Westerners. They really messed up my teeth, and it is going to cost 3 times as much to fix. I saw multiple dentists after, and they ALL told me that what the foreign dentist did to me would result in legal action in any Western country.

KeepingitReal2 · 06/03/2016 12:30

Hi
The dentist stated its best to have it done soon after but I've left mine for a long time is it still possible to have this done it's been at least 4-5 years but I hate dentist and hate the gap

KeepingitReal2 · 06/03/2016 12:31

And any recommendations for the midlands

NoArmaniNoPunani · 06/03/2016 12:37

Keeping: I'm a dentist, as long as there is enough bone you can have an implant. Even if there isn't enough bone, you can possibly have a bone graft and an implant.

BertieBeats · 06/03/2016 12:46

I'm in the process of getting a implant right now after being without a back tooth for 15 years. The bone graft cost £1,800 ,then I had to wait 6 months for the implant post placement at £1,500 ,then after 6 weeks I had a gum graft at £600. I'm getting braces to create a gap for the tooth as the upper teeth had come down so i need a temporary tooth at a further £600 and the final tooth will be £1,200. However, for you ,because you'll be going for a straight replacement you won't need the bone graft and gum graft so should cost about £2,500.

Peaceandloveeveryone · 06/03/2016 12:48

Wow Bertie that sounds like nearly 10k in all for one tooth?!

lo0ol · 06/03/2016 12:52

I had one in the south west and it was £1000. It was a few years ago and I'm really pleased with it.

lo0ol · 06/03/2016 12:53

I had a consultation in the same city and they wanted more than twice as much Hmm

lo0ol · 06/03/2016 12:54

I also had to have a bone graft. Australian cattle bone apparently!

ItsAllAboutTheCakes · 06/03/2016 12:56

Thanks everyone. Looks like prices vary massively probably due to materials and location I'm assuming. I will speak to my dentist when I see him. Fingers crossed it will be on the lower end of expensive.

My dentist was Greek. He was incredibly good at his job and very reasonable compared to other more established dentists.

Happy to give you the details if you pm me.

PoorFatBoy · 06/03/2016 13:31

I am in SE and for two implants it cost £4.4k. I also had to have a bone graft and this cost about £1.5k, but that did include sedation. I was very lucky as I experienced no pain, no swelling, and no infection. These were top back teeth.

ByTheSea · 06/03/2016 13:44

I had one a couple of years ago. £1,900.

landrover · 06/03/2016 13:53

I suspect that the £360 implant was a post crown.

MatildaTheCat · 06/03/2016 14:00

When I lost my tooth I had to wait about six months for the bone to heal properly which I believe is standard so a gap is inevitable. I had a temporary denture to stop the other teeth drifting and it was much less awful than I imagined. So why not get that for the time being whilst you save up and look at all the options?

Nothing more depressing than gaps from lost teeth or ugly broken teeth. Dental finance plans are very popular unsurprisingly. Smile

ExConstance · 06/03/2016 14:09

I had two done at The Brighton Implant Clinic in Hove. It was a bit of a nuisance going backwards and forwards between Gloucestershire and Brighton several times but I am very pleased with the results.I think they still charge about £1k starting price for a tooth. Mine were a bit complicated and the original quote was more expensive, but once they did the work the supected complication wasn't there, so the bill was smaller. They do nothing but implants day in day out, so I think that is why they are less expensive. Mine were UL 2&3 ( the canine and one behind it) the procedure itself wasn't painful but afterwards every tooth in my head was very nigggly from all the battering about for days. The worst bit was waiting to go into the surgery, there was a bit of a delay as the person before me took longer than they expected. I'm sure I will have more problems one day with another bridge that is reaching the end of its life, and I'll certainly go back to them. My two new teeth are very natural, match the others perfectly and make my whole smile much nicer.
