I've given her pretty short shrift. Thanked her for the advice, pointed out I don't drink a drop Monday - Thursday and reminded her I also had a g&t when her play dates mum came to pick up her friend (if she's counting).

She's quoting unit limits at me and refused to pass me the glass DHpoured.
Sheesh. Is this how it's going to be if I let her stay up on a Saturday night?

Are we going to turn into Patsy and Saffie?

Definitely starting to feel like bedtime (for her). Grin

I'd rather die early from too much booze than be put in a home where alcohol was banned.
The thing is that everyone has to die but I'd much rather have fun for a few years than die later after having had a miserable existence.

RedOnHerHedd · 05/03/2016 21:26

You just reminded me that I have a bottle of toffee apple cider and bummers dark cherry cider in the fridge. Grin

ouryve · 05/03/2016 21:28

Ds1 used to advise people, in Sainsbury's, that alcohol was bad for them!

RudeElf · 05/03/2016 21:28

Bummers dark cherry? Shock Grin

PaulAnkaTheDog · 05/03/2016 21:29

Ten year olds commenting on alcohol intake?! Seriously?! Nine year old ds doesn't even blink when I have wine Confused

janethegirl2 · 05/03/2016 21:31

Obviously alcohol is bad, but life is bad too!

Just drink what you want and know the recommended limits, but you don't need to follow them....it's your choice!

CandOdad · 05/03/2016 21:32

DD(7) will regularly tell me that Pepsi max is bad for me and that I should drink so much if it.
She won't even believe the label that says "zero sugars" and tell me it must have hidden sugar somewhere!

Bloody education.

janethegirl2 · 05/03/2016 21:33

As an adult, your body your choice!

RudeElf · 05/03/2016 21:36

Grin yes janet! We get it

PrincessHairyMclary · 05/03/2016 21:37

I was that child (I am still that adult, in my head now though and DD has taken after me too). It's only because they care, they get told all day at school how things kill you and how bad they are for you, see you doing it and they love you and want to keep you around.

janethegirl2 · 05/03/2016 21:38

Ok but my name is Jane Grin

ghostyslovesheep · 05/03/2016 21:40

My mum once woke me up to show me the multi coloured spew in the toilet (it was 1986 and she had discovered cocktails) - her and her mates then loudly ate fish and chips downstairs

I threw a full on Saffy strop and gave them all a lecture on sobriety and parenthood - which to this day still raises raucous laughter amoungst her and her 70 something mates Grin

I feel your pain x

RudeElf · 05/03/2016 21:40

Sorry jane! I read it too fast.

janethegirl2 · 05/03/2016 21:42

It's ok RudeElf I just get a bit arsy now and again Grin

squoosh · 05/03/2016 21:43

I read it as Janet too.

But y'know, your name your choice Wink

janethegirl2 · 05/03/2016 21:46

Hell how do I change my name so it's obviously Jane

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 05/03/2016 21:51

Ds1 once frowned at me and asked me "Are you really opening that now?"

It was a bottle of red and it was 5.30pm on a Saturday.

I may have replied in the affirmative and continued my feverish removal of the cork.

I did though tell my smoker grandad he smelled, he stopped after that. Right little sanctimonious spoilsport I was.

luckiestgirlintheworld · 05/03/2016 21:57

I can't work out if this is a joke thread and these are all sarcastic responses? I fully expected all the replies to say "2/10 must try harder" for being so obviously goady- but you're all agreeing! Or IS it a joke and I'm missing the point?

"I don't drink a drop Monday-Thursday" makes drinking at home every Friday, Saturday, Sunday a good role model?
This is strange- I'm never normally the prude on MN. I can't be the only one thinking it's weird how we accept alcohol so freely when it can be such a damaging drug.

Oh god, I really sound like a prude, I might not post this. Oh fuck it.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/03/2016 21:59

10? I'd send her to bed earlier. Alcohols no fun around kids. I used to put them to
bed by 8 so I could pour the wine.

RudeElf · 05/03/2016 22:00

Yeah you hit the wrong button luckiest

squoosh · 05/03/2016 22:02

Er, I can't see anything goady in the OP.

longdiling · 05/03/2016 22:02

I don't think there's anything wrong with drinking moderately around children luckiest. Alcohol is readily available and it's better to let them see it being used in moderation than making it a mysterious banned substance.

squoosh · 05/03/2016 22:03

Adult has a beer and a glass of wine on a Saturday night. What is 'goady' about that? Confused

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 05/03/2016 22:04

Name change to JaneTheGirl2. That should sort it.

I'm not sure why anyone would think the OP is being goady.

luckiestgirlintheworld · 05/03/2016 22:09

Maybe goady is the wrong word. I just thought it was a wind-up when I first read it. I thought it was trying to get a bun fight started as it seemed so ridiculous to me. But then everyone just joined in so I was obviously wrong!

I don't want to ruin your fun though so I probably shouldn't have posted.
