Aibu to think it's a not very hygienic?

I've seen it a few times recently. DP says it's because it's supposedly more hygienic than a bin....

Not unhygienic if it has it’s own designated space away from food.

I have one hanging off cupboard handles for kitchen recycling aswell as a regular kitchen bin

We had one tied to a door handle for a while after our bin fell apart. If anything we took it out to the dustbin more often as it filled up quickly.

Door handle I can understand more. But an open bin on a worktop? I don't get it. Surely you want it out of the way and with a lid on?

We had one as our dog used to rummage in the bin if it was on the floor, it was taken out far more often than a huge bin on the floor too. If you're clean I don't see the issue, we didn't just chuck rubbish all over the worktop. Not really something that bothers me, each to their own I guess

I won't have a kitchen bin. Its a quirk of mine, like the people who don't have loo brushes. Yabu

The only bins i have are one in the kitchen and the little bathroom bin, both lidded.

I do this, I can't have a bin as the dog knocks it over then empties the bin and eats the rubbish, can't have the bag on the door handle as he would pull the bag down and eat the rubbish. Not much I can do really the dog is a pain

I'm with Tobysmum I hate bins in the kitchen,but do sometimes have a carrier on a door handle. Luckily my kitchen has an enclosed porch and the bin lives in there.

We have a carrier bag over the edge of the radiator (the one in the kitchen is turned off) for everyday rubbish (plus the lidded food caddy bin on the worktop) and a larger swing bin for recycling. I wouldn't have an open carrier bag for a bopin on the actual work top no. Looks awful.

The three houses I've seen it in don't have dogs.

So some folk won't have a closed bin in the kitchen but an open rubbish bag on counter top?

That's like not having a closed toilet brush holder next to the loo, but having it sitting in a bowl on the window sill.

I have a bin bag on a kitchen handle as a bin and it probably gets taken to the big bin twice a day, works for me, but on a work top would annoy me.

I have a plastic bag on the worktop, but only when I am prepping food. All the peelings etc go in it and when I've finished, it goes into the bin outside. We try not to throw food in the kitchen bin as it only gets taken to the outside bin once it's full every few days.

Carrier bags have holes in.

So they are only suitable for holding dry things.

What sort of bio hazards do you think are in these open carrier bags?

No bin in the kitchen?!

My DH does this unless I manage him constantly given half a chance. I hate it because, even in winter, I can smell the rubbish within a couple of hours. DH seems oblivious - no sense, no feeling obviously

Its not the biohazards that put me off. Without fail every single home i know that uses a carrier bag on a handle or on the counter has big drippy stains round the door/wall/counter where the bag sits. And on the floor where stuff has dripped through a hole. Stains dribbled down the whole door and dried in. Yuck.

I usually have a bag hanging off the ultility door handle for any rubbish that isn't going in the food waste or recycling bins. My mum finds kitchen bins minging and I suppose I've followed her trend. The bags are never there for long as they get binned or emptied and reused again whenever I go out the back door --too bloody often-/

If you recycle then you shouldn't really have anything dripping. I have a good caddy with a lid for any food waste, and a carrier bag that packaging and tins etc go in. No spills. I hate bigger bins as they smell and do get disgusting in the bottom if anything has leaked. Carrier bag gets put outside daily into the big bin.

I hate kitchen bins, I don't want to store rubbish in the kitchen.
I have a carrier bag on the back door handle and take it out 2/3 times a day.
