to think my neighbours are strange

I've lived in my house since July last year and I live in a quiet cul de sac.

I have a neighbour over the road and he hasn't once opened any of his curtains since we have moved in. I see him occasionally outside but I can't understand why the curtains would be permanently closed.

DH thinks there is some kind of breaking bad operation going on in there Hmm

He likes living in a hermetically sealed unit? We had neighbors like this, very young. They mysteriously moved away and rented the house out to a very similar couple....

1234Littleham · 29/02/2016 20:53

It is a Safe House.

MrHankyTheXmasPoo · 29/02/2016 20:54

When I moved into this village I noticed a boarded up house, discovered later someone was actually living there. Yesrs before he had been tormented by local youths and has shut himself away. So sad

00100001 · 29/02/2016 20:54

Its because he has a Big Secret. And it is now your mission to find out what it is. Find a reason to go over.

I'm sure you have a delivery over there, or need advice in curtains...

Jengnr · 29/02/2016 20:56

I reckon he's lazy like me. Curtains are something that just happen around me. I don't open them, I don't close them.

lalalalyra · 29/02/2016 20:57

We discovered when I was BF'ing DS that our house is much warmer when we keep the front curtains shut. Then it became winter and by the time it's summer all being well I'll be BF'ing the new baby. So we're now the family who used to open their curtains, but now don't. Apparently it pisses one of my neighbours (that I can't stand) off Grin

It's cheaper than new draught free windows.

BigQueenBee · 29/02/2016 20:57

If he's growing pot it really is very easy to spot
The roof of his house, or a large portion of it, will be frost free when everyone else's is iced up.
Alternatively he might just be a bit of a hermit.

BirthdayBetty · 29/02/2016 20:59

Spy?
Hoarder?
A house full of those big sex dolls?

gunting · 29/02/2016 21:01

Hahaha these replies are amazing. Grin

I am so tempted to go and ask for advice on curtains. I think mine are most style over substance and he has got some lovely thick ones.

Bee I will have a look at his roof tomorrow and see if there's any frost.

Our weird neighbours are the same. Never open the curtains unless they're twitching them then the woman stands there with the light behind her, so she knows you can see her, with the curtain swept aside whilst she glares at us for daring to use our own drive...

Another neighbour pointed out they even had the curtains drawn during their kid's birthday party.

They also never open windows. Not even the bathroom window. Not even on the hottest day of the year.

These houses are in the middle of nowhere and we're opposite a lake, so there is zero chance of being overlooked ever - you literally couldn't build a house directly opposite if you wanted. I think I lived here years before I even bothered to buy curtains or blinds for any room other than the loo and the living room.

Mind you, they spent hundreds of quid on CCTV cameras when they moved in - despite living with their toddlers on a bare concrete floor for a year or more. They're unemployed, it's a council house and the man was screaming in the garden that it was the council's job to carpet the house, not his. The curtains in every room of their house remain shut all day, like the windows.

My upstairs curtains are always closed! Just CBA to open them!!!!!

travellinglighter · 29/02/2016 21:07

if they’re growing cannabis then it becomes obvious because of the smell. I get to go to them with work(I’m not a police officer) they really smell.

CamboricumMinor · 29/02/2016 21:07

He's depressed and can't be bothered.

perhaps his house is a big sex dungeon Grin

ohtheholidays · 29/02/2016 21:08

He might be a migraine sufferer OP my poor Dad was for years and he used to have to have the curtains closed and the lights off.

Now they've gone he suffers with light sensitivity with his eyes sometimes bless him.

JoffreyBaratheon · 29/02/2016 21:09

The ones next door to us are not growing dope. I doubt they could afford the electricity. It seemed to be cut off, a while ago. Plus the coppers and SS are always round there. I think they probably smoke a lot of dope, though - and so are paranoid about anyone "seeing in".

gunting · 29/02/2016 21:09

Travellinglighter do you work as a travelling lighter?

My bedroom curtains are closed permanently when I'm on nights.

Lolimax · 29/02/2016 21:11

We keep our blinds shut as the house is right on the road and I don't like people looking in. I don't care what the neighbours think. Although Murphy the cat does wash his male bits in the window.

CalliopeTorres · 29/02/2016 21:13

The guy who lives directly opposite us never opens his curtains either. He also seems to live on his own but has 2 run of the mill cars (so not a performance type car or anything) but both relatively new (within 5 years old). He very rarely drives one of them - but it does move occasionally - so not that it doesn't work. Sometimes a woman appears as if by magic, I've never seen her go in or out of the house on her own. Once the blinds opened and the same woman was seen scrubbing furiously in the porch etc, by the end of the day the blinds were shut again and have never been opened up since! Love a good mystery Grin

gunting · 29/02/2016 21:14

Joffrey wtf Confused your neighbours sound charming. What did the kids do for their party in the dark? Hide and seek?

I'm mow more curious about what happens in my neighbours house then I ever was when I started this thread.

BillBrysonsBeard · 29/02/2016 21:18

We keep ours closed most of the time because we live next to a bus stop, but they are all thin and cream and let the light through, so it's never dark. When we do open them it feels too bright! Don't care what anyone thinks..
