To think the 'Disrespect NoBody' ad campaign is horribly sexist?

Not sure if this has already been discussed but has anybody else seen the 'Disrespect NoBody' TV adverts that are supposedly raising awareness for healthy relationships and domestic violence?

Every single scenario in the advert is targeted at men abusing women whether it be physically or emotionally. Y'know because men are never victims?

Rufus you are right about Scarface. When I was dating, I used to casually ask men their favourite film. If they said Scarface they'd fail.

It was the same if I walked into someone's flat and saw a bookshelf with well-thumbed paperbacks on the SAS.

I'd ask where the loo was and climb out of the window.

Dh loves Frozen and Love Actually...i am ashamed on his behalf

FairnessEqualityLife · 04/03/2016 23:10

Actually 49% of domestic abuse victims are male. And to think that my sons wont have the same rights as there female equivelants disgusts me. Its an outrage and any female who agrees with this campaign should be ashamed of themselves

FairnessEqualityLife · 04/03/2016 23:11

40%*

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/03/2016 23:20

That time already?

LurcioAgain · 04/03/2016 23:23

Fairnessinequalitymalelife.... RTFT, there's a dear (since you're new to mumsnet, that acronym means "read the fucking thread"). The 40% stat has been debunked multiple times now.

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/03/2016 23:23

It's like statistics Groundhog Day.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 04/03/2016 23:33

Women are so evil and domestically violent, i'm bringing my boys up gay to keep them safe.
Cause 97% of men who have ever died (including wars and disease) were killed by women
Fact.

cbyers89 · 04/03/2016 23:40

I loathe people who loathe the "what about men' 'whingers'. Actually what about men? By perpetuating this idea that it's men exclusively that commit domestic abuse offenses all we're doing is making sure even less men report it when they're being abused because hey let's face it who would believe them anyway. It's a horrific standpoint to take. While I appreciate that many women are victims of domestic abuse they are also more inclined to report such instances because they know for the most part they'll be listened to and helped.

NewYearNewToads · 04/03/2016 23:41

Welcome to Mumsnet, Fairness

NewYearNewToads · 04/03/2016 23:42

You too cbyers89

cbyers89 · 04/03/2016 23:44

Thanks 😊😊

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 04/03/2016 23:44

Ah, random-name-and-number-poster, go on, admit it - you havent read the whole thread, have you?

TLDR; there are five adverts in the series and only three are specifically aimed at women.

NewYearNewToads · 04/03/2016 23:44

The whole "men are less likely to report domestic abuse" thing is a complete myth btw.

NewYearNewToads · 04/03/2016 23:45

You're welcome Smile

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/03/2016 23:47

We are now entering the twilight zone. Things are as before, but not quite. Lots of new posters with numbers after their names....

NewYearNewToads · 04/03/2016 23:49

cbyers89 and Fairness would either of you like to point out to me where in the ad it says that men can't be abused?

You also both realise that the campaign isn't ignoring male victims, right? They have a section on their website for male victims along with links to other sites with advice and things to help them.

The campaign is actually gender neutral.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 04/03/2016 23:50

Doo-doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo-doo...!! 😱😱😱

cbyers89 · 04/03/2016 23:50

The number after my name is my birth year and that random username is just my default one for most things. I'm not witty enough at 23.50 to come up with something else.

Twunk · 04/03/2016 23:51

Interesting MRAs never seem to think we might have sons, male partners, fathers, brothers, male friends, etc.

It's much much easier to imagine us as man-hating harridans.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/03/2016 23:54

Well, you said it, cbyers89.

cbyers89 · 04/03/2016 23:58

I've seen exactly one of the campaign adverts 6 or 7 times. The exact same one each time regardless of how many there are. Someone said there are 5 in the campaign and 3 are more concerned with domestic abuse against women. My issue is the first part about boyfriends checking phones and the hands on the table at the end. Having not seen any of the other ones I'm unable to comment on their content but those particular parts irk me. Mostly my issue was another poster saying they hate "what about menzzzzz" posts. If the advert had made it seem like only women are domestically abusive you can bet your bottom that by now some sort of women's aid group would have jumped in and forced them to remove the ad. Men do matter which is why this thread was started in the first place and for that user to belittle the plight of men who are domestically abused just because it happens to women more frequently is quite honestly frightening to me.

cbyers89 · 04/03/2016 23:59

I'm sure I'll be thoroughly ashamed of my lack of originality in the morning 😜

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/03/2016 00:09

Tell me, what did you think of the post collating the abuse towards women that has been posted on this thread? Do women deserve that?
