To think the 'Disrespect NoBody' ad campaign is horribly sexist?

Not sure if this has already been discussed but has anybody else seen the 'Disrespect NoBody' TV adverts that are supposedly raising awareness for healthy relationships and domestic violence?

Every single scenario in the advert is targeted at men abusing women whether it be physically or emotionally. Y'know because men are never victims?

As a survivor of domestic violence this advert is so important for the survival of women. I was nearly killed by my husband who went to prison for all the abuse. It needs to be put out there that it is wrong for anyone to control another person. Like others have said there is help out there for DVD male victims but women are the greatest ones at risk.
After months of my ex slowly but surely grinding me down and hitting every part of my body my whole life was passing away in front of me. I lost all trust in men, my job and self respect and dignity. I am a changed person and it's been horrendous. So this advert is the best to happen. If you feel you want to help men the best thing is to be involved with the respect course to get them to committing violence although sadly it does not change men that have a taste for controlling.
Domestic violence is still a subject that has a taboo subject and professionals including social worker need better training I in it especially those in the Bristol and North Somerset areas. The IDVAs that pick up the pieces are wonderful and I owe my life to my independent domestic violence advisor. Legal aid has been sadly cut and this can affect domestic violence cases three years after a case has passed and they need assistance with solicitors for contact purposes. So seriously have a look on the woman's aid site and realise this advert will do some good and men are not being victimised. Every blessing ladies xx

the majority of attempted suicides are not actual attempts on their own life..

Yes, women CHOOSE to go into lower paid jobs.

My goodness. You know a lot about what women want and choose to do, don't you.

I would like you to provide sources for the following:

  • Men are 11x more likely to die at the workplace
  • Women are 2x as likely to be accepted into university's and high paying STEM subjects and jobs
  • Men get more than 2x longer prison sentences for the same crimes.

Under - can you imagine?

Woman - 'hmmmm, well, that STEM job and salary DOES look appealing.....but naaaah, think I'll choose to be a dinner lady instead, then clean offices in the evenings. Yeah, that's what I'll choose.'

PosieReturningParker · 03/03/2016 20:53

I sometimes help in a school where we firstly listen to the irrational child that is a bit rude, then if they persist saying silly things we firmly set them straight, the next step is to sit outside a different classroom does MN have one? another route would be to freeze annoyance out. I'm not going to bother responding to the ridiculous derailing posts. They will not make anyone think that it is a reasoned argument being presented by the MRA lone poster.

I shall scour the thread to find the conversation before the hijacking of ignorance began.

OhShutUpThomas · 03/03/2016 20:54

I'm with you Posie

zip

Its not my opinion, its government statistics

You were the one to come out with an asinine comment about prison sentences...you prove your statement Hmm

I'm not your bloody servant

PunkrockerGirl · 03/03/2016 21:14

I believe a planned child should never be aborted
So you'd be planning to give up your future career to look after the child so your wife/partner could work, otherwise how would you plan on bringing up this child that she didn't want?

PosieReturningParker · 03/03/2016 21:19

Advertising is appropriate due to the level of violence sustained by women from men. This country is shameful for not reporting and minimising deaths and abuses of women. My mothers neighbour was murdered by her ex who drugged the children in order to beat her to death. She was one of the two women murdered every week. If this was Muslim men killing white men at that rate it would be news. The fact that it's men killing women they're involved with has misogynist undertones that make it more palatable for the general public. A bit of a "ahhhhh it's understandable she didn't want to be with him, he didn't trust her...." Bullshit.

When we no longer minimise violence against women adverts like this won't be needed.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/03/2016 21:29

Women applicants having higher acceptance rates into STEM subjects at uni seems entirely possible - given how many barriers there are it could well be that the women who get that far are more highly motivated and qualified on average than the men.
I would need to see evidence but it doesn't seem inherently implausible.

Zigoow · 03/03/2016 21:33

Again, your twisting my words. I never said women say 'nah, let's not be a CEO and instead be a dinner lady' I'm saying women go into lower paid jobs. Lower paid jobs are not always less rewarding than higher paid jobs. Full time mums, school teachers and even refuge workers are all lower paid jobs that women choose to go into. I personally think it's a worthy career path and I applause any woman who goes into these fields. What your saying is a full time mother or father is below someone in a higher paid job.

On to the silly points, yes, these are MY facts, I'm saying them. I didn't conduct the study, would you rather focus on this than my facts? I think that shows the floor in your own argument. No.. When I state a fact, it is my job to back it up. When I do so, with credible facts, and you decide to disprove what I say, under the law it is your responcibilty to disprove what I say. There's a word for this, but forgive me, I don't remember it.

Women's clothes are designed to fit the woman's body. I have no desire to wear them, anyone who wants to wear them only had the desire to be more feminine. That's the only conclusion I can come to, which means they are unconfirmed in their femininity. Until we get dressed designed for men, I don't see any one reason, please enlighten me if I'm wrong.

Oooh, I nearly forgot posiereturningparker. You silence children who have opposing views to what you believe? Are you actually serious or was this an ill performed joke? You actually publicly embarrass a child if he says not all men are rapists? Do you know how many things are wrong with this? An 'irrational child' should never be told to leave the room because you decide they are irrational. Could I ask what jobs any of you who are being childish have? I would sincerely like to know, I think it would help prove my case. Oh.. And it's www.mumsnet.com actually, not Mumsnet.

SpeakNoWords · 03/03/2016 21:40

Posie, you're so right about the response if it was a different group of people being killed at this rate. And what happened to your mothers neighbour is terrifying, and more terrifying that not enough people really care.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 03/03/2016 21:46

zigoow, I think we'd all be interested in seeing the study that shows twice as many women as men are accepted onto STEM courses as per your 18:24 post. You said it, but you didn't give any supporting evidence.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 03/03/2016 21:49

Also, zigoow, if I can invite you to wildly speculate... how do you think a hypothetical equal pay lawsuit against your employers would go down with them, or indeed any future employers?
