to kick the next person who tells me to "educate myself" in the rude bits?

FithColumnist · 26/02/2016 20:16

In my opinion it is such a bloody patronising, condescending, virtue-signalling phrase. It makes my blood boil.

(Or AIBVU and need to go and educate myself?)

OP posts:
PaulAnkaTheDog · 26/02/2016 21:07

Op gone?

iPost · 26/02/2016 21:09

When I see it used it seems to mean "please read my cherry picked, fact lite, special pleading, biased opinion pieces and then become right minded like what I am".

Potentially at the same time it can be used as shorthand for "you have raised a point I don't know how to argue against cos there is logic/reasoning/fact involved. Bugger. .... Ha ! I'll call you uneducated by the back door and WIN! anyway !!"

So I am not keen on it either.

YANBU , but only if the kicking is imaginary Grin

Fratelli · 26/02/2016 21:28

Yabu for saying "rude bits"

JosephBrodsky · 26/02/2016 21:31

If different people are continually saying this to you, maybe you should consider whatever it is you've just said...?

ouryve · 26/02/2016 21:33

Oh, I don't know. I know some people who need to start right at the basics of not being pig ignorant. Being a thoughtful grown up 101 level.

Wolfiefan · 26/02/2016 21:34

Maybe OP has gone off to seek the aforementioned education?

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 26/02/2016 21:43

To be fair, I don't think any of us can ever step back and say our rude bits are sufficiently educated. Life is a learning journey and all.

JosephBrodsky · 26/02/2016 21:49

My labia have a PhD each, I'll have you know.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 26/02/2016 22:07

Mine are Albert Einstein reincarnated. Ha! I win!

lougle · 26/02/2016 22:33

I'm all for conservative language, but 'rude bits' is taking it a bit far!

Oysterbabe · 26/02/2016 23:00

It took me about 10 reads to figure out what the op meant.

Katenka · 27/02/2016 06:15

If people are saying this a lot to you, what are you saying that prompting that?

GooseberryRoolz · 27/02/2016 06:44

YANBU.

It's a patronising, debate killing, put down.

nevertakeyouriphoneinthebath · 27/02/2016 06:55

I also agree with Gooseberry that YABNU and it is a patronising, debate killing put down.

But I have no idea about what 'in the rude bits' refers to. Confused

nevertakeyouriphoneinthebath · 27/02/2016 06:57

Do you mean that women are telling you to become better acquainted with your own intimate bits of anatomy?

I don't really understand the OP at all.

Netflixandchill · 27/02/2016 06:58

It often comes from conspiracy theorists who have educated themselves on YouTube and other unreliable websites.

GooseberryRoolz · 27/02/2016 07:32

Oh you want to kick them IN their crotch?

That's a little bit U Smile

daisychain01 · 27/02/2016 07:49

I think it's more effective if you kick them UP the crotch.

but then, this thread hardly got off to a flying start Grin

OP, maybe read "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" for good education in syntax and punctuation to increase clarity

ollieplimsoles · 27/02/2016 07:54

"vaccines are just all about money, nothing more. Homeopathic remedies can be just as effective, and if a child is breastfed they don't need vaccines anyway, go educate yourself"

This was used on me earlier this week. Its one of their favourite finishes to a pathetic ramble.

TiggyD · 27/02/2016 07:55

OP "I believe thing A"
Arsehole "You only believe A because you're not very clever. Educate yourself"
OP : KICKS ARSEHOLE IN RUDE BITS

I agree. The otter one is:
Person: "I believe A"
Arsehole: "No, it's B"
Person: "I still think it's A"
Arsehole: "No. You're not listening. It's B"

A bit like:
Person:"I believe A"
Arsehole:"You only believe A because you were brought up in a system that believes A. You should believe B"
Person:"The system doesn't make me think A. I think A"
Arsehole:"You only think the system doesn't make you think A because of the system which makes you think that the system doesn't make you think A"

GooseberryRoolz · 27/02/2016 08:02

An otter, Tiggy? Just what this thread needed Grin

GooseberryRoolz · 27/02/2016 08:02

An otter, Tiggy? Just what this thread needed Grin

littlejeopardy · 27/02/2016 08:05

Good examples Tiggy, another scenario is:

Person: I believe A
Arsehole: no it's B.
Person: I believe it is A because of reasons X, Y and Z.
Arsehole: No its B and you are insult, insult, insult,

GooseberryRoolz · 27/02/2016 08:08

Why have I suddenly been blessed with the power of double posting?

Netflix is right, though; It's an insult beloved of conspiracy theorists.

Tiggy are you working from current threads? Wink
