Is this actually an issue? Who knew.... :o

My DSs have changed their own beds since they were about 9 or 10 and I do ours mostly but even cack handed DH seems to manage without any hassle. I'm an inside out method person :) DSs used to hang it over the bannister as they found that easier especially for doing up the buttons.

My DM does rely on me or my sister to change hers now but she is 83 so can be excused. She also likes a 15 tog duvet and a flannelette duvet cover so that's not a combination to be recommended.... She can actually do it herself but it takes her all day as she can only do a little bit at a time as her poor arms get too tired :(

I don't have trouble putting them on but how do you get the blooming things to stay nicely in the corners when you are a restless sleeper? I feel as if I rearrange the spread of the duvet inside the cover nearly every morning. Surprised no one makes a special pin for the purpose!

Dump your duvets. Egyptian cotton sheets and woollen blankets are heaven and give total flexibility because you can add/remove a blanket according to the temperature. I sweat like a pig under a duvet and have horrible nightmares. No thanks.

"Dump your duvets. "

No way. I remember the time before duvets. Beds were a pain to make, something always fell off the bed...

no way would I dump my duvet - I think I was quite young - 8? - when I persuaded my parents to get rid of blankets in favour of duvets. I love my duvet, I would hate to sleep in a bed with sheets and blankets.

btw OP I do the inside out method, I find it the only way.

My sister always wonders how I don't end up inside it (I'm small) but I don't know how she does it the other way round!

Put your hands inside the cover and grab the end 2 corners. Then grab the end 2 corners of the duvet. Shake and voilà!

I learnt this method when I was a kid - Carol Vorderman demonstrated it on How2. This made me a tiny goddess in my mother's eyes, but sadly condemned me to having to change every duvet in the house from that moment onwards.

lorelei I think you can buy clips to keep them in place but I also saw a tip on YouTube where you sew a loop into the top two corners of your quilt cover, then sew a ribbon to the top two corners of your quilt - which you then tie through each loop. It was a lot simpler to watch than to explain here!

I keep meaning to try it out but never get round to it.

3Purple, thanks but that does sound like it needs good sewing skills otherwise the stitches will show on my naice duvet cover?

I'm confused about the video method. She turns it inside out, rolls it,closes it but then how does she unroll it when it's all zipped up.
I'm not such a half wit normally Blush

Duvet covers I can manage. Changing a top bunk bed, on the other hand, that really is a total PITA. I always end up with skinned knuckles and wrinkles on the bottom sheet.

Lie duvet cover flat on bed.

Lie duvet on top of it but half way down.

Take RH corner of duvet in hand and put inside cover.

Hold on to RH corner of cover and duvet.

Repeat for LH corner.

Hold both corners and shake.

Blimey - you lot are too efficient and are missing the fun element !!! I always find some poor soul DD or DH to help me and we race to see who shoves their side in first so the winner can shake the hell out of the duvet and make the other person go nuts as they try to catch their flapping corner !!! I liked the burrito method for thinner duvets but some of my duvet covers only have relatively narrow openings -I guess half the width (but in the centre) and I have one really thick duvet. Using the burrito method it is a battle to push the corners in before you unroll (if you know what I mean) - I actually ripped my duvet cover opening last time Sad
I think single duvets are easiest with the inside out hands inside method.
I hate buttons would much rather have poppers - in fact one of my ikea duvet covers doesn't have anything at all (I have nappy safety pins I pin on the under side to stop the duvet starting to hang out...)
And you can buy easy change duvets -that unzip on all sides and you push the duvet inside then can reach in all round to straighten it out
but better a number of years ago I was looking at ones that came basically as two sheets - lie one on the bed, lay duvet on top, lay other piece on top and fasten up all round the sides ..(I came across them when I didn't need a new cover then when I looked again I couldn't find them -still can't Sad but then again iirc they were quite expensive)

I turn the cover inside out grab top corners with it then kind of flip the cover over the duvet. I then grab it from other side, stuff bottom corners in and shake it.

That burrito thing looks immense. I am sooo trying that tomorrow.

Limited, I love ironed bed linen too, just hate ironing it. Mine has really faffy edging and I like it to look perfect.

When we got our new super king bed we switched to 2 x single duvets - absolute heaven and so much easier to change the duvet covers!

Going back to the duvet vs blankets debate. I'd never swap back to blankets and sheets, but it makes me sad that my children will never know the joy of "being tucked in". Sad

I like to watch telly while I'm doing it threefaries and I don't have sets with faffy edging. I'm not usually that fussed about the finish but have been known to give it a once-over once it's on the bed. It only lasts for one night, but it's lovely when you get in, isn't it?

Random not a super king size bed, just a double, but that's what I plan on doing when we next need new duvets...
DP is a nest builder so we replaced our double duvet with a king size one but we still had duvet wars. So we put the double back on as well -so we had a double and king size on the bed ... eventually replaced the King size with another double ...so that's two double duvets to change, wash etc every bedding change ... a few months ago I had a light bulb moment - two singles would be just as good but half the laundry and easier to change ...
Could do with a new duvet covers but I'm holding out till I can justify replacing a duvet...
(DP says it isn't very couplely - so I told him I'd actually prefer twin beds Wink so he has agreed to the single duvets as long as we keep a double bed Grin)

unlucky it's heavenly, we have different togs at various times and if you can't sleep you can slope off to the lounge and take your duvet with you!!!
