to think this is a pretty gross and unappetising quote for a restaurant menu?

"Great restaurants are, of course, nothing but mouth-brothels. There is no point in going to them if one intends to keep one’s belt buckled.
Frederic Raphael (1931-)"

I mean - I can sort of see where they thought they were going with it, but really? At very best - Mr Creosote whipping it out at the table. At worst it makes me think about exploitation.

Pity as I was quite fancying the menu up till that point, but don't think I could face anything in a white sauce...

That would put me off too Confused I can't imagine why someone would think that was appropriate.

dudsville · 21/02/2016 21:17

Ooh, whoever chose that quote really misjudged things.

silverfoxofwarwick1952 · 21/02/2016 21:20

Sounds like American Pie

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/02/2016 21:21

Bleaugh. Not appetizing to me. And I would assume that the owners were misogynist.

acasualobserver · 21/02/2016 21:23

Crude and rather contrived metaphor. Not appealing.

Birdsgottafly · 21/02/2016 21:23

I wouldn't give my money to a business that made so light of the sex trade.

Yeah, arsehole, buying food really does compare to buying the use of a Woman's body, who may not be there willingly.

SirChenjin · 21/02/2016 21:27

Fucking hell - that was what they chose to use to sell their menu??

Misogynistic and lacking in grey matter if they genuinely thought that would widen their market.

slightlyglitterbrained · 21/02/2016 21:33

Did such a double-take when I saw it. The chain is Koh Thai Tapas if anyone's curious at who the fuck would pick such a quote.

Gabilan · 21/02/2016 21:34

I wouldn't eat there.

DancingDinosaur · 21/02/2016 21:35

Brightnorthernlights · 21/02/2016 21:38

Makes me feel queasy.....hardly appetising is it!

MySordidCakeSecret · 21/02/2016 21:39

ugh.. grim.

IPityThePontipines · 21/02/2016 21:41

Yuck.

They clearly only Lad customers, with their Lad money, so I would be spending my Lady pennies elsewhere.

Also: Thai Tapas Hmm

WorraLiberty · 21/02/2016 21:45

Well I wouldn't order the crabs.

novemberchild · 21/02/2016 21:46

Just no. It actually would make me feel creeped out and uncomfortable.

wtffgs · 21/02/2016 21:51

Worra GrinGrinGrin

Scuzzy quote btw - YANBU OP

CornishDoll82 · 21/02/2016 21:54

'Mouth-brothel'? Has a worse phrase ever been uttered?

And it's horrifically misogynist

MattDillonsPants · 21/02/2016 22:13

Oh how disgusting! Write to the management and tell them!

Evabeaversprotege · 21/02/2016 22:26

YUK

Crispbutty · 21/02/2016 22:28

people talk about house porn and food porn regularly.. i cant see any issue with the comment

LineyReborn · 21/02/2016 22:29

Fucking grim.

Gabilan · 21/02/2016 22:41

I can't see anything right with it. Unbuckling your belt buckle so you can pay a woman for sex and treat her as an object, what's right about that? And why on earth then use that imagery to sell food?
