To think this is cheeky as fuck?

Sitting in McDonald's car park earlier and a chap in a van pulled up. He got out and started pulling loads of rubbish from said van (cans, bottles, papers and such), stuck it in a carrier bag, dumped it next to one of the bins and then drove off!

I thought it was really rude of him- the staff have enough to do without having to lug his waste into the bin! Especially as he hadn't even bought anything!

I got the registration number and gave it to the manager bur the friend I was with thinks I'm being unreasonable. Am I?

Lots of people need weekly bin collections.

Particularly those with large families and those who don't own a car, to do trips to the dump.

Is it sad that I got really excited when the council opened a new recycling/dump near me? GrinBlush

Where I live the general waste isn't picked up every week so people do have to find other ways to get rid of things

Are there no civic amenity sites?

What a silly billy post. What a waste of your headspace and emotions.

But do they empty the rubbish into their cars, then pull up at fast food restaurants and fill a carrier bag. That would be quite time consuming.

Silver Birch, he never bought a thing! He literally drove into the car park, dumped his rubbish and then left. It's different if you've actually used the business!

If I go against Worra, will MNHQ come round and break my legs?

Illegal dumping, also called fly dumping or fly tipping, refers to dumping waste illegally instead of using an authorised method such as relying on kerbside collection or using an authorised rubbish dump. It is the illegal deposit of any waste onto land; waste dumped or tipped on a site with no licence to accept waste.

McDonald's are clearly going to have a licence to accept waste, but they'll pay for it (per pick up) so for them, having to pay to transport someone else's waste away is a cost for them. I repeat - I don't care one iota about McDonalds. But - morally - should they pay for some one who isn't an immediate customer to take their random waste? I don't think they should. Your waste, your responsibility.

I've worked for a LA (in waste). People think putting the bins/recycling out is the end of the process, it isn't.
Flushing the toilet isn't the end of your wee - there's processes that means you don't end up drinking it. Most of us don't think beyond flushing our toilets or filling our wheelie bins, etc.

sorry if this is too anal, but I've worked in this area, and perhaps I understand too much about what happens to your bin bag after you put it out, and the costs associated with that (which you get back in your council tax).

(I'm going to wake up next to a horse's head [possibly Chris-es] for going against Worra, aren't I!)

I'm amazed that you got so het up about it. FWIW if I were the manager I'd think you were nuts!

It's either blissful or hellosh.

Whilst I see your point Fatmomma I emptied my car into a petrol station bin without buying anything this morning... The rubbish I was putting in was coffee cups that I buy from the same petrol station, just not that day. Was that wrong?

Wow you really need to get out more, what an ott reaction. What on earth do you want the manager to do.

Good for you. You did what you could and the rest is up to the manager. Likely, if it's a one off they won't do much but if it's a repeating issue it could be just what they need to deal with someone.

I know here at one of the 'leisure parks', the hotel and other businesses have big problems with people coming in, parking at the back, dumping their rubbish out and driving off (oddly, it's often McD and similar food wrappers). Their cameras are good enough to see a couple cars were doing it repeatedly, but not to get the registration number. Some of the staff would love to get the registration to try to get them for littering. You would seriously make one of the night managers' nights [as he as to pick all of it up most of the time]. Even when it is bagged next to the bin, it'll get blown or knocked over and it's still litter. I do not get why they do not put it in a bin.

It's a bit cheeky, but better than dumping it in a countryside layby. That really does make my blood boil.

Eh momma?! What's that mnhq comment about?

Report
WorraLiberty · 21/02/2016 00:48

Given the thousands of newspaper stories over the years, about McDonalds rubbish littering high streets, and given that McDonalds staff used to be seen out and about in the community picking up their litter (haven't seen that for years though??)

Can you imagine the outrage a newspaper story would cause if this guy complained that the manager of McDonalds, actually had a go at him for 'littering', when he placed a carrier bag beside their bin? Grin Grin

Total community suicide for that branch.

Tbf fatmomma, i do appreciate waste goes somewhere. Maybe not everyone thinks about it, but would guess there are many who do. He may be at the restaurant all the time, and it doesn't sound like he took several black bags full. McDonald's will probably pay water charges, so should customers also check the use of the toilets. Then you could also ask about people's understanding of how water and waste works.

My local McDonald's does loads in the community - they sent staff to clear a playground that had some been trashed and are now sponsoring it.

I would rather someone did that and just chucked all the rubbish out of their car window, which I have seen often.

At least that way it will be disposed of properly. And I have often had to dump my "legitimate" waste next to the bin at McDs because their are always full to overflowing.

I envy you if this is the biggest thing you ever have to worry about :)
