Meningitis B Vaccine Petition

To ask you all to consider signing this Gov Petition ?

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/108072

I have young children and find it hard to believe this isn't being offered to all children .

I know the NHS is under alot of pressure however for those who cannot afford the private vaccine this should be given to all or offered at a reduced rate.

I have signed. The petition is doing really well, I'm glad to see it is almost at 100k Smile

TimeforaDietCoke · 16/02/2016 21:22

Signed and shared. My DS just made the roll-out but a number of friends and family have babies who did not.

Sadly, this petition won't get you anywhere. NHS can't afford it. If it is any consolation, the UK is the only country offering this as part of a vaccination schedule so your children would not be getting this vaccine anywhere else in the world

Drogon · 16/02/2016 21:30

sugar I'm so so sorry for your loss Flowers

Thanks to your thread I signed the petition that elena has linked to.

I had absolutely no idea about the vaccine and unfortunately we're not in a position financially to get it for our DD. It worries me sick that DD is at risk but we'll have to save every penny to get it done! But the cost will be worth it for peace of mind.

Thank you both!

SootyTheCat · 16/02/2016 21:43

Signed. The petition is now over 100,000. 46,455 signatories in the last hour! Please, government, listen to us.

andadietcoke · 16/02/2016 21:49

I understood that the vaccine was only for one strain of men-b that is particularly nasty for babies, but doesn't protect against many other strains. Is that not the case?

Thanks to everyone that signed the petition

It's £95 per jab at Boots. Only for over 2s though. m.boots.com/h5/cat_hub?unCountry=uk&path=/en/Meningitis-B-Vaccination-Service_1773757/

Bedsheets4knickers · 16/02/2016 22:23

I signed today but seriously looking at going private and living of beans on toast for 3 months

Paddingtonthebear · 16/02/2016 22:23

Boots have stopped doing it due to national shortage of vaccines. Looks like June 2016 is the earliest

Houseof5boys · 16/02/2016 22:41

Thank you for making me aware of this. I have sighed and shared with my friends and family.

My child is four and my aunt, who is a children's nurse and who cares deeply about my DD, said 'look, if there was a real need for her to have the vaccination, she be given one on the NHS. There's no need to worry about trying to pay for one.'

But now I'm sure. I understand that children younger than four are most at risk, and I don't know what the risks are at all by the age for 4/5. I feel completely and utterly in the dark.

ElenaSummer · 17/02/2016 08:00

Great to see how much the petition has grown, when I last looked it was only at 10k!

Pp I know the NHS cannot afford it and it is all based on risk factor / cost etc however I think without going into a full NHS debate savings could be made, and personally even if the jags were subsidised I would happily pay for them however even using credit cards I couldn't manage the current price for my 3 .

I have friends who work in the NHS in child health areas and even they were not aware of the vaccine role out , the overall lack of awareness of this seems unreal.

I wasn't aware there was a shortage of the vaccine which makes it more difficult for everyone :(

Signed this morning. I read sugar's posts and had to instantly. Meningitis should be one of those diseases that were top of the list to eradicate. X

NancyDroop · 17/02/2016 16:42

Signed! Bump

CantWaitForWarmWeather · 17/02/2016 16:46

I've just signed now.
I had to take my DS2 to see the doctor this
morning because he has a rash on his arm that that wasn't there last night. Luckily I was told it was nothing serious but you can never be too careful as meningitis/septicaemia can progress rapidly and the rash didn't vanish when a glass was rolled over the top of it.
Turns out it is from where him and DS1 were rough and tumbling and it is just red/purple bruising.

PicnicPie · 17/02/2016 16:50
