I'm sorry but a woman being locked up against her will for forced sex is rape not a bloody romp. This is disgraceful.

To think the Sun's headline is shocking
OP posts:
ClarenceTheLion · 12/02/2016 17:34

The Sun has a long and disgusting history of writing about sexual abuse in a way that is designed to titilate its disgusting readers. My DF used to buy it when I was a kid, and the Dear Deidre page alone was horrifying. I remember reading a letter from a supposed rape victim but it was written like wank fodder, 'He slid his hand roughly up my stockinged leg...'

MissFlight · 12/02/2016 17:37

That's why we refer to that paper as 'The Scum' absolutely disgusting Angry

squoosh · 12/02/2016 17:37

Cunts.

'Romp' is something fun and playful. What happened to Cheryl was neither of those things.

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 12/02/2016 17:41

I don't think I've ever been so angry at a newspaper article before.

Then you obviously didn't see the Sun's full front page of a sexed up Reeva Steenkamp coming out of the sea in skimpy bikini on the day her death was reported.

That's what the Sun does. They are disgusting pieces of shit.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 12/02/2016 17:42

oh my days

"romp"

would they call it a romp if someone raped their precious DD? That's awful

BalloonSlayer · 12/02/2016 17:46

In the Times there was a quote from the guy that said something like "[someone] chased her round and round a desk but nothing physical happened." Yes, perhaps because she kept running away Angry Something physical was almost certainly going to happen if she stopped running. Poor girl. Sad

MissFlight · 12/02/2016 17:51

That poor young woman Sad as if her family haven't suffered enough, than to have her suffering and consequent death minimised nationally Angry

Behooven · 12/02/2016 17:51

The Sun are cunts

SongOfTheLark · 12/02/2016 17:51

YANBU. a "romp" (ugh awful word!) is consensual ffs. The poor girl (just 18 at the time I believe) was raped. Really feel for her family it must be awful to see headlines like that about your child.

Imstickingwiththisone · 12/02/2016 17:52

I'm just trying to send a complaint via the IPSO link a pp has posted, but don't know what clause in the editors code of practice has been breached. I want to just write that it is clearly disgusting and distasteful Sad

Pacothepidgeon · 12/02/2016 17:55

That is vile. Poor family have fought for years for justice for this girl.

FairNotFair · 12/02/2016 17:59

YANBU. That is utterly contemptible.

DeoGratias · 12/02/2016 17:59

(Also do remember journalists who write the articles don't write the headlines so that would be someone different against whom to complain)

Quoteunquote · 12/02/2016 18:07

I really hope that someone is human enough to do the right thing and give her family honest answers. These people are the most appalling set of cowards and disgusting individuals to conspire to withhold the truth.

The Sun, is a group that takes great pleasure in making money out of other's misery, and seeks to cause as much pain as possible.

When I was at school a friend was murdered(by a stranger) the Sun and Daily Mail made her families's lives hell for ever, they still do given half the chance, pure poison.

Jetcatisback · 12/02/2016 18:09

This is really close to home Sad

It's not just Cheryl's family who suffer with headlines like this (though clearly their pain must be unbearable), but my family suffer as well (another Deepcut victim).

I have complained, and hope that many others do too.

Crabbitface · 12/02/2016 18:14

Yanbu disgusting!

Doublebubblebubble · 12/02/2016 18:17

Omg. Utterly deplorable.

GloGirl · 12/02/2016 18:18

Fuck me, it seems like I shouldn't have done but I really had expected better from the Sun. Not a lot, but to call rape a 'romp' is spectacularly shit.

GloGirl · 12/02/2016 18:19

I think #RapeNotRomp wold probably work well on twitter if you want to tweet it OP.

ScrambledSmegs · 12/02/2016 18:20

Sorry, I posted the link to IPSO but I don't know what the procedure is or even if they're the relevant body. I hope someone who knows more can help with what to do?

FairNotFair · 12/02/2016 18:30

Jetcat Flowers

OneTiredMama · 12/02/2016 18:33

My god this had just made me Angry Agree with GloGirl, use the #RapeNotRomp hashtag on Twitter and let this vile rag's editor regret ever passing this over. Utter scum.

That poor woman's family. They've had to deal with so much and now the trivialisation of a sex crime against their daughter on the front page? Disgusting.

Devora · 12/02/2016 19:27

I'm so sorry to hear that, Jetcat. It was a long time ago now, but I have never stopped feeling shocked and upset by Deepcut.

FoundNeverland · 12/02/2016 20:05

As a Liverpool fan, I'm not surprised. It's a horrible, disgusting rag and I judge anyone I see reading it.

ghostyslovesheep · 12/02/2016 20:09

scummy fucking rag - another none Sun buying football fan here x
