To adopt a cat (again)?

thehillshaveyes · 10/02/2016 11:59

I adopted a cat last year from a rescue centre but had to take her back as (I thought) dd had an allergic reaction to her. I panicked. Dd's illmess had nothing to do with the cat in the end.

I've been thinking about her every day since and really want her back. Would it be unfair on the cat if I brought her home again?

Here's a pic of our black rescue boycat, in anticipation of OP's cat pic Grin

Good luck with the move!

Aww he's adorable Doctor Smile I pick my cat up tomorrow, I'm so excited! Do you think it's ok to change her name even though she's an older cat?

Wolfiefan · 13/02/2016 14:10

I'm soooooo ridiculously thrilled by this thread. I remembered your thread about adopting her and how she had settled. And then how awful you felt about returning her.
She's in the right place!
(I've adopted two and I now seem to be allergic to them! Shock I have had cats for years and never had this before! They're not going anywhere though. I will just have to itch!)

thehillshaveyes · 13/02/2016 14:38

Oh no Wolfie! I really can't wait to get her back. I feel awful for stressing her out again by moving her but she'll be much happier here when shes settled Smile.

Are your new cats a different breed to the ones you've had before?

OP posts:
blankmind · 13/02/2016 15:00

Is her name the one she's always used, or one the cattery have given her?
If it's a temporary one, she should be fine with a new one.

I'm sure if you change her always name gradually to say Millie from Tillie that would be fine. Or call her her always name with your preferred name at the end, then eventually just use your preferred name on its own.

We have 6 cats, all of them just arrived here, five out of the six are black. three live indoors and three which are more wild live outdoors by choice.

What a nice ending OP, you got your cat back!

I'm yearning to adopt a cat/kitten. But OH is very reluctant. I've had three cats, at different times, two of them lived well beyond 12,13 years, 1 wasn't so lucky. I adore them & they make lovely companions.

We thought we had found a stray last year, an adorable little thing, so full of character, no collar, just appeared in our back garden from nowhere! He came everyday to play with the kids, he was lovely, but I needed to find out if he had an owner, which he did. He continued to come round & see us for a long time as his owners were never in. Then we stopped seeing him & we found out his owners have him away. So that was that, we'll never see him again 😭😢 it's heartbreaking I'm actually grieving over someone else's cat! Even my OH is hurting, we all became attached to our little visitor!

Wolfiefan · 13/02/2016 18:08

Not lurking for pictures. Oh no!
Grin
Our last two were moggies. The one we lost last year was actually long haired. I've also developed a horse allergy too. All in the last year!
It is only itching. I have eczema round my face which is dreadful if I let them round my face. No other issues.
They are going nowhere! I love my cats.

DoctorTwo · 13/02/2016 20:31

thehills, of course it's fine to change its name. Any cat that has adopted me has had a name foisted on it that was not assigned by the previous slave. Good luck tomorrow, you and your basement cat are going to be fine.

you've, get a cat and nuts to your DH. Judging by his reaction to your temporary master he'd love a permanent one.

You do realise there are RULES that apply here? The RULES decree that photos are obligatory.

Another black cat, for luck. She's from CPL. I've tried explaining that previously feral cats shouldn't be that tame but being a cat, she ignores me.

OK I have to confess I seen the thread when the op had said she was getting the cat back now fate has brought you all back into my life again via active convos I am going to absolutely shamelessly place mark for a photo.

So happy you asked and they said yes. My sister adopted a cat a couple of years ago from the local shelter he is 19 now and she knew he probably wouldn't be taken by anyone else. He's gorgeous and active and not the timid little thing she took home.

EnjoyTheSimpleThingsInLife · 13/02/2016 23:42

So glad you have adopted her again, I'm sure she will settle in fine Smile

I don't understand why people don't like black cats either, I've got 2 and they are amazing.

What a lovely story to read on Valentine's Day - made my heart glad. I have a pure black cat who is so daft and loving, and 3 black and white hooligans who are the most loving of souls. I will also post gratuitous pictures because I can!

Thank you Lion. The photos on here are lovely.
I don't think black cat wanted to be feral. She's very vocal and chirrups a lot. Her sister is more typically feral. Quieter, and it took 6 months before I was allowed to stroke her. Also, come the summer, they'll both be wilder!

teeththief · 14/02/2016 14:53

We've got an ugly black cat. Her ears don't fit her Grin but she is adorable and much more lovely than her bastarding grey brother who likes to try and trip people up

Gabilan · 14/02/2016 15:00

I have a grey cat that does that. It's like 101 of going from feral to domestic - run under their feet. These days I go down the stairs clinging to the banister, even if I can't see her, because she can move at warp speed and materialise under your feet.

thehillshaveyes · 14/02/2016 18:30

Ok I feel like the worst cat mother ever because I said the other day that she was black with a white patch on her eye. She's black and white with a black patch on her eye Blush

Either way, she's home and settled Smile

Aw, she's lovely. And has that cat ability to be immediately at home and asleep.

Squiff85 · 14/02/2016 18:42

Lovely post!

hiddenhome2 · 14/02/2016 18:45

Aw, she looks so settled and content.

Here is my black rescue cat. The poor soul was a nervous wreck when we brought him home, but he's one of the family now Smile

Yay! I do like a happy ending. I remember reading your posts when you first adopted her.
I hope all goes well and she enjoys her new home-she looks pretty relaxed on the photo.

thehillshaveyes · 14/02/2016 21:10

She's very relaxed and seems settled already. She's picker her favourite spot on the sofa and is fast asleep Smile

EnjoyTheSimpleThingsInLife · 14/02/2016 22:30

Aww she is lovely Smile

Wolfiefan · 14/02/2016 22:32

Bless her. It's almost like she knew you would come to your senses and be a good little cat slave!! Grin

thehillshaveyes · 15/02/2016 12:14

She hasn't moved far Grin
