AIBU to wonder why I gained the weight?

I struggled with weight issues in my teens and early twenties- never obese, but I was around a size twelve and looked chubby.

Then I started losing the puppy fat- I also started to clean up my diet and became more active. Lost loads of weight and was down to a size 6.

Thinnest I'd ever been and I was thrilled!

But in the last year, the weight has slowly been creeping back on... I've gained around 5-7 kilos and I'm a size 8-10.

I'm still eating healthy. I'm still as active. I've literally changed nothing!

Why has the weight come back [weight] I could blame some fluid retention on the pill, but I'd begun gaining weight before I started the pill.

Any idea what on earth it could be if I haven't changed diet or exercise regime?

I am of a similar size, short with a slight frame. But although I have skinny arms, legs waist and face, my thighs, tummy and boobs are out of proportion. For example I weigh 7stone 3lbs. My bra size is 32DD.

I think that if you diet and exercise your body proportions might not change. You will weigh less and be skinnier in some places, but thighs and tummy will still be out proportion with the rest of you.

Our bodies have a way of telling us that this is just how it is. As for the extra weight, could it be muscle strength that is weighing more?

BitchPeas · 09/02/2016 09:08

I'm 5ft 3 and when I was size 6 I weighed 7st. So you must only weigh 8ish? Now?

I suddenly gained a stone in when I was on the pill and stressed out and very busy so I wasn't paying attention to the drinks I was drinking for energy, Coke, lucazade, lattes, pints of orange juice etc. Could it be something like this?

lemon101 · 09/02/2016 09:24

Try changing how you are exercising - if you do the same routine week in, week out then your body just gets used to it. So don't necessarily do more just different - a cardio and resistance mix. I have been there and this was the case for me!

Theendispie · 09/02/2016 09:28

People get really hung up on dress sizes but we are all a certain shape naturally and it's even more than are you an apple or a pear shape. However careful we are some of us may still dislike our natural shape.

I am on the smaller size and when I was unwell and having issues with my digestive system I was a size 4 at 5ft 4, I looked bloody awful. I am a natural hour glass shape and my sisters jokingly hate me for it.

Nicebucket · 09/02/2016 09:43

I haven't quite reached the size 10, if say I'm an 8 still. But on days when I'm bloated, size 8 can feel a by tight.

I definitely think the alcohol I take might have been a factor especially because prior to that I never used to drink at all. So maybe the sudden alcohol consumption has been hard for my body to adjust to.

I've done it purely out of peer pressure- I feel like drinking helped me to socialise and bond witn my colleagues and bosses.

I definitely do have tummy that sticks out slightly even at size 8 Sad And I don't fit into any of the beautiful clothes and dresses I had

It's not thyroid, I already had that checked.

I'm sure the pill added to it. I will stop it after this cycle.

Hormonal contraception and alcohol are dreadful for weight gain.

Katenka · 09/02/2016 09:55

So not everything is the same then?

You have started drinking? It have I misunderstood that?

TeaT1me · 09/02/2016 09:58

Are you underweight?

Nicebucket · 09/02/2016 10:14

Why did the GP lie and say the pill wouldn't cause weight gain Angry

Nicebucket · 09/02/2016 10:16

I drink maybe once in 2-3 weeks? Only at office social events or when out with close friends.

I started doing it about 18 months ago, prior to that I never used to drink at all.

Perhaps my body is not happy with even a little bit of aclohol

In fact, I went through a phase where I wasn't going to the gym, and I was eating the occasional treat and still not gaining weight.

^^ this was back in 2014 when I was a size 6. Skinniest I've ever been without even trying

You hit the magic age 25 get fatter stage! Happens again at 30 :-)

whois · 09/02/2016 10:18

As I understand it, the pill doesn't make you put on weight, it can make you more hungry so you eat more and put on weight.

MNetter15 · 09/02/2016 10:25

Was it a male GP that told you that you won't gain weight on the pill? 😡

Eliza22 · 09/02/2016 10:33

I was always skinny as a kid, teen and early adult as I danced (classical ballet). I hovered around 7 stone. At 7.5 I felt too heavy and at 6st 10, I barely had the energy to walk around, never mind dance for 7 hrs plus a day. I was (am 5ft 5).

I look back now and realise that my weight though crucial to what I was doing, was detrimental to my health. When I stopped dancing I grew a backside and chest and have never been skinny, since. I come from a long line of voluptuous women so really, I've found my natural shape.

Perhaps your body is trying to tell you something?

trulybadlydeeply · 09/02/2016 10:36

Your body is maturing. This may just be your natural weight/shape. Most (although not all) women will have bellies that stick out a little, and shapely thighs. Most of my friends had the teenage "chubbiness", then the weight fell off dramatically in the late teens & early twenties, then it evened out into a natural, adult shape.

If you are healthy, fit and strong, then that's great, rejoice in that and be proud of your shape. Stop worrying about dress size, and just concentrate on being fit and well. The pill may be a part of it (after all you are supressing your natural cycle) but do not stop it until you and your partner have something alternative in place.

Muskateersmummy · 09/02/2016 10:37

If it's a rounded tummy it is highly likely it's bloating. I get that when I eat too much bread. I would keep a food diary and see which foods are "disagreeing" with you. I also totally agree that neither the pill nor the booze will be helping your cause

You need the eating in moderation and eating enough otherwise your body will store every tiny bit of fat you consume.

However there is also an element of accepting and embracing who you are and loving your own skin. I have gone from a size 18 to a size 8. My weight will fluctuate within half a stone and I'm very aware of what causes those fluctuations and how to control them. However even now my body is by no means perfect, I'm not toned and my boobs have shrunk. I refuse to stress about it, I use Spanx if needed, choose outfits that flatter my shape. Ultimately if you can gain some acceptance of your shape you will be happier. Try not to focus on it so much

snowymountaintops · 09/02/2016 10:38

whois that's rubbish to say that everyone will put on weight at 25 and 30, very arbitary. I'm 48 and have haven't gained a lb since I was 18. I'm a size 6, 5ft 4" and weigh 7.5 stone, always have done and no effort required to either lose or put on. You don't necessarily put on weight as you get older.

BoboChic · 09/02/2016 10:44

I agree. I weigh the same as I did at 18. I'm nearly 50.

TeaT1me · 09/02/2016 10:52

Snowy I think it would be rather unusual (and possibly not healthy for all people) to be underweight their whole life.

Nicebucket · 09/02/2016 10:54

Pill has definitely made me hungry!!! I am hungry all the time. But I don't eat, so I'm constantly distracted and irritable. I can't focus on work

OP posts:
LaCerbiatta · 09/02/2016 10:54

I'm a size 10 going on 12 in some shops and 5ft6 and I think I'm overweight. There's too much fat around my stomach and my thighs are chunkier than what is normal for me so I see what you mean.

Just because average sizes keep going up it doesn't mean that slim people are underweight....

Muskateersmummy · 09/02/2016 10:58

Nice, not eating does not help you. If you are genuinely hungry you should eat. Something sensible sure but you should eat
