To name my child after a celebrity?

PoppyBobby · 07/02/2016 18:46

It wouldn't be one of those obvious celebrity names, but I suppose the name has only really grown on me because of that celebrity... I suppose it isn't exactly a celebrity, more like a film name - this isn't it, but think Harry Potter and because they are obsessed with the films/books, they name their son Harry

I wouldn't - very dating, in my view. I wouldn't have wanted to be named after whoever was famous in the early '70s

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/02/2016 18:55

It depends on the name.

Kanye, no.

teeththief · 07/02/2016 18:55

You know you'll have to give us the name before we can answer properly Grin

Is it Bilbo?

CalleighDoodle · 07/02/2016 18:55

Im going to need to know the name to judge.

StitchesInTime · 07/02/2016 18:58

Completely depends on the name.

CwtchyQ · 07/02/2016 18:58

What's the name Smile

PoppyBobby · 07/02/2016 18:58

It's not a special name, I suppose quite popular... Quite current too, would be Elliot and then William for the middle

SlinkyVagabond · 07/02/2016 18:58

It's Hagrid isn't it?

PoppyBobby · 07/02/2016 18:58

No, lol

iMatter · 07/02/2016 18:59

We need to know the name.

Ds2 was named after my favourite ever dog. Luckily the dog's name was Harry.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 07/02/2016 18:59

Elliot is fine, I think. Hagrid not so much..Although they'd probably be the only Hagrid in their school!

PoppyBobby · 07/02/2016 18:59

Elliot William, you know, like Billy Elliot? (Who is actually William Elliot)

It's just my favourite show ever (seen it 17 times)

My friend has an Elliot op, he was named after Billy Elliot the musical.
Its a nice name

liberatedwine · 07/02/2016 19:01

As long as it's Harry after the boy wizard, and not Harry after the curly haired boy from One Direction.

Tell us the name! Is it Spongebob?

iMatter · 07/02/2016 19:01

Go for it. Smile

gunting · 07/02/2016 19:01

No one is ever going to make the association between billy Elliot and Elliot William so it's fine

Names like miley though.... Just no

Topsy34 · 07/02/2016 19:02

I wouldn't even realise it was from that unless you pointed it out

cardibach · 07/02/2016 19:02

That's not after a celebrity, though. It's names from a show. I don't think the names sound right that way round, as it happens.

CalleighDoodle · 07/02/2016 19:02

I like the name miley.

PoppyBobby · 07/02/2016 19:02

It's no so much them noticing more so the "oh, who's William after? How did you think of the name" and there's me with my
Lousy answer 😂

OP posts:
BlueJug · 07/02/2016 19:02

Hermione? Ginny? Benedict? Kim? Perrie? Brooklyn? Cruz?

The only answer is "it depends but as long as you like it doesn't matter"

PoppyBobby · 07/02/2016 19:03

Okay, thanks everyone, just wanted to triple check!

BlueJug · 07/02/2016 19:04

Sorry - such a slow typist!

CakeNinja · 07/02/2016 19:04

I wouldn't in a million years link it to being a 'celeb name', I like the name Elliot.
And realistically, how often does anyone use their middle names?

BikeRunSki · 07/02/2016 19:04

That's fine. I am named after the lead character in my dad's favourite book. Much the same thing. Elliot and William are not that distinctive that they point to 1 person.
