To name my child after a celebrity?

It wouldn't be one of those obvious celebrity names, but I suppose the name has only really grown on me because of that celebrity... I suppose it isn't exactly a celebrity, more like a film name - this isn't it, but think Harry Potter and because they are obsessed with the films/books, they name their son Harry

Elliot is a lovely name! On my list if I have another boy. No one will ever make that leap, and you don't have to admit the inspiration to them ;)

Luciferbox · 07/02/2016 19:55

DS2 is named after the singer of a band I met DH through. It's not a common name but only a few people have made the connection. If you like the name go for it.

JoMackl · 07/02/2016 19:55

Oops - I effed up! I mean "Elliott"/ "Elliot" not "Elliot"/ "Eliot"!!

Too much bad pink wine!

Grilledaubergines · 07/02/2016 19:56

Love the name.

Think back to the 90s and the film 'Ghost'. How many Girls were called Molly I wonder? But it's a lovely name, regardless of the connection.

I thought you were going to say hermione. Which is also a beautiful name!

MrsJayy · 07/02/2016 19:58

Elliot William is quite clever use it

Raahh · 07/02/2016 19:59

Poppy- I have an Elliot, and the 2 't's thing bugs me. But I suck it up, as it's par for the course when you give a name with more than one (legitimate) spelling.

I then went and called DD2 Philippa. Grin

Ninjagogo · 07/02/2016 19:59

YANBU. We named pfb a lovely old fashioned name, 3 months later Downtown Abbey came out and people assume we are fans....Grin

What2 · 07/02/2016 20:00

One of my DC is named after the neighbours dog and another after my aunties cat (not Spot and Tiddles type names Smile ) so naming your DC after a fictional character doesn't sound so bad.

Elliot William is a nice name.

Jengnr · 07/02/2016 20:02

My daughter's middle name is Rose.

My username should tell you why :)

FerrisBueller1972 · 07/02/2016 20:03

I love Eliot and it is my sons middle name. Partly because of T S Eliot (fathers reasoning) and Billy Elliot (my reasoning) Grin

SimonLeBonOnAndOn · 07/02/2016 20:04

Our surname is Smith.
Both my sons have a famous moniker.
One very famous indeed, although wasn't so much when DS1 was born.
Get jiggy with it.

Youarentkiddingme · 07/02/2016 20:24

I love Elliot as a boys name.

My brother is called Nicholas Paul - guess who my mum loved! No one really comments though and he's been Nick for as long as I can remember.

TannhauserGate · 07/02/2016 20:24

My children were Luke, Leah, and Annie.
Most people didn't twig until we had the fourth, Chewbacca.
Now everyone takes the mickey [sa]

TannhauserGate · 07/02/2016 20:24
Sad
PoppyBobby · 07/02/2016 20:26

The original is Elliot for a first name! So I'm not the one doing it wrong!

That's a lovely name and no-one is going to guess unless you tell them or you wear a film t-shirt and use Billy Elliott stationery.

TaraCarter · 07/02/2016 20:46

*Elliot

PoppyBobby · 07/02/2016 20:51

I actually have a tshirt 😂

I have an Elliot. People have called him Billy Elliot and I've only watched it once! DS doesn't mind as he thinks BE is very cool. We also get ET as well but I still adore his name.

And yes to bloody Elliott.. Elliott is a surname, Elliot a first name.

Aciderwouldbenice · 07/02/2016 21:32

I have an Elliott (with two T's, prefer it that way but each to their own)
He is Elliott for the boy in ET, my most favourite film.

PoppyBobby · 07/02/2016 21:55

That's different, you're naming him from the boy in ET who is an Elliott ;)
