To think that everything has to be a 'thing'

These days?
E.g
Going to a mates house to play = play date
Feeding baby bits off your plate = baby led weaning.
Baby playing with bowl of rice = sensory play
No one goes on a diet anymore they make a "lifestyle change"
A coffee can't even be a coffee anymore it has to be a mochalattaoohlala. At home! At home!! Wheres the nescafe!?

Maybe Im uneducated or something but jeez

I do writing and PR work and got told off the other day about calling someone a Carer in a story - apparently I should have called her a care giver. Confused

chantico · 07/02/2016 10:03

I'm pretty sure our mini beasts included snails.

The term I dislike most is "attachment parenting" ie noticing and attending to your baby like people have been doing for centuries.

YANBU

But to be correct, I suppose 'minibeasts' include arachnids and other disgusting small creatures that aren't strictly speaking of the insect family.

And I don't mind the word 'brunch'

Towardsthesun · 07/02/2016 10:05

Omg date night - just going out with a bloke. Please don't ever let me say that.

Catzpyjamas · 07/02/2016 10:06

At primary school (when the teacher needed a break?) we used to have quiet time with our heads down on the desks. Now DDs class has meditation Hmm

The girls from dd's creche were removing all the lovely coloured storage boxes recently, i asked why and they said "they had to make it a home from home environment so had to replace them with wicker baskets and natural products" it was regulations not them because they were eye rolling with me

They can't use the word bold they have to say silly - bill shot is ever I've heard it

I definitely think having a baby/toddler has recently made people become full of shit

NoonAim · 07/02/2016 10:10

Bullshit not Bill shot Confused

Runningupthathill82 · 07/02/2016 10:13

YES. A particular bugbear of mine is people who say "I babywear." What, you use a sling? So do I, but that doesn't make me a "slingin' mama" or any if that shite. It just means I like to carry my baby. Not "wear" her.

Same for the extremely annoying woman who said "I cloth bum" to me a couple of days ago. As if using cloth nappies made her part of a special and superior group.
My mum used cloth nappies on three children, I night tell her that in fact she's a devoted cloth-bummer. But she'd laugh at me.

rainingsleepingbags · 07/02/2016 10:18

I was just thinking about that Running.

I know a couple who do all their baby 'things' in tandem so it isn't just "I babywear" and "I do attachment parenting", it's we. We do attachment parenting, we do babywearing, we do blw and on and on. For some reason it's the we that gets me most riled up.
And of course they do all the things.

BonitaFangita · 07/02/2016 10:19

lol at all of these, I think I've found my people sorry tribe or should that be squad ? Confused
The one I find confusing is cis (sorry controversial I know, don't flame me).
Also Brinner, that's having breakfast for dinner i.e. having a fry up for tea.
Love the staycation, I hade these every year as a child. My mum was a trend setter without knowing it Grin

YANBU
The coffee thing ...
I was in our local charity coffee shop - run by volunteers - usually either older ladies or young people trying to get work experience
I ordered two cakes, an orange juice and my normal coffee (strong black with cold milk on side) .
The young man who brought it over said here's this, this, this 'and your americano' ...had to bite my tongue - no its my coffee - its only coffee I've ordered - it can't be confused with another coffee ...it really doesn't need a name .. (and breathe...)

rainingsleepingbags · 07/02/2016 10:20

NoonAim I'm not sure what it means exactly but it makes my blood pressure soar in its utter wanking ridiculousness.

Wellthen · 07/02/2016 10:20

I agree with phrases like playdate and date night - why do need a new phrase? We already have 'going out' and 'going to x's house'!

But those picking on educational or medical phrases I think you're simplifying something quite complex. Going out is going out but 'sensory play' covers a huge amount of activities that specifically cater to senses and new experiences. Key workers will chose a range of activities catered to their kids and their developmental stages. A world away for 'playing with some rice'.

I wouldn't be so pretentious as to refer to letting my baby play with her food as 'important for sensory development' but at a nursery, where the adults are professionals who have studied for their roles and put thought into their provision areas? Yes, I would expect that kind of terminology. The idea of childcare is that it goes beyond what is offered at home.

clary · 07/02/2016 10:21

LOL @ meditation at school.

I sometimes get mine to play heads down thumbs up when the day has been especially trying (this is secondary btw Blush)..

YY tho wtaf is "shop the edit"???

clary · 07/02/2016 10:23

Oh also Grin at I cloth bum!!!

Yes I did that too. That is, my DC wore washable nappies Hmm .

Theendispie · 07/02/2016 10:23

It's social media fault as people seem desperate to be doing 'things' all the times and letting the world know. I remember when people stared to say they were just going to chill at home, to me that means be lazy or do sweet FA.

It's all absolute bollocks.

People need to eat, drink, sleep and shit and that's it. I think back to a time when people, really didn't have much leisure time like back when my Granny was young. I don't think people were nicer then but self indulgence was frowned upon. Sorry I digress but maybe people will get where I'm coming from.

igivein · 07/02/2016 10:28

No cabbage - you mean the bright colourful WIPE CLean storage boxes? How minging are wicker baskets going to get?

nocabbageinmyeye · 07/02/2016 10:29
