To think, Well that serves me right for being smug

I got my winter energy bill to day which was about £120 less than last year. I thought this was largely down to my £30 heated throw purchase from aldi meaning I haven't been putting the heating on in the day when the kids are at school (I work from home). I've just moved said throw (still plugged in) and something went 'pop' with a blue flash near the heater control, and now it won't turn on.

I'm going to be cold 'at work' tomorrow Sad

It's true - heated throws or the business, but beware that they'll leave you inconsolable and bereft when they, quite quietly, go 'pop'.

ALSO, the big massive tag on it says 'Only to be used as a throw or wrap'.

There could be a whole Netflix series out of this.

KAPUT made me roar with laughter!

Hope you can get it fixed. Otherwise your productivity at work may be adversely affected. You can stage a walk-out of your workplace if the temperature drops too low , you have rights you know .

I am like this. If my parents come round to mine for a cup of tea during the day they keep their coats on ! And so they should.

Go on to your amazon account/ previous orders
You can get a duplicate receipt, also just click on the order & send a reclamation, they will replace or refund...
Amazon are usually brilliant on this issue

dodgeballqueen · 03/02/2016 20:26

mix56 - have you been sniffing the tipped again?? It's not Amazon, it's Aldi. It was in their Aisles of Randomness, which I normally manage to resist. Not the 'heated throw' time though. Or the time I went in for milk and bread and came out with an angle grinder and a Father Christmas costume for a horse.

I really hope you have a horse...

Kaput Grin

ImperialBlether · 03/02/2016 20:32

There's a label on mine that says it should only be used as an over blanket and that you mustn't tuck it in or fold it. Is there a similar label on yours?

caroldecker · 03/02/2016 20:35

No receipt required - it has their name on it and date of guarantee.

taptonaria27 · 03/02/2016 20:35

Aldi will take it back no bother, I had a problem with an electric coolbox that I didn't have the receipt for and it was fine - they need you out of there so quick they haven't time to argue the toss!

dodgeballqueen · 03/02/2016 20:38

A similar label, but doesn't say only to be used as an over blanket - just a 'throw or wrap'.

And no, I don't have a horse, and I still don't know what an angle grinder is.

Grin arf @ dodge's shopping trip. out of curiosity- do you have a horse for said costume? if not, then double Grin and respect!!

CharleyDavidson · 03/02/2016 21:18

I luffs my aldi heated throw.

Mine lives permanently on the back of the sofa and I lean against it and it keeps my lovely and warm (with my primark teddy bear throw over my legs). It's fabulous.

I may have to swap them over and put my throw over me when it gets colder. If it dares to die on me I shall be straight on to them to return it!

SquinkiesRule · 03/02/2016 22:05

I wonder if Aldi still has them. I bet Dh would love some of that warmness, he shivers all day with the heat off numpty I just flip the heat on.
Hope they give you a new one OP.

notapizzaeater · 03/02/2016 22:08

We love ours, save. Totally agree saves a fortune on the bills :-)

IPlayPingPong · 03/02/2016 23:10

Hahaha nothing to add but this thread is hilarious!

And I want a heated throw so very much now Shock

SistersOfPercy · 03/02/2016 23:12

There was something in the instruction manual on mine about not sitting on it, I know because I worry when I'm snug under it on the sofa and the dog lies on top of it.

I'd be very lost without mine so I feel your pain op.

MaitlandGirl · 04/02/2016 00:00

We've got one and it's great. We put it on the bed in the winter (between the fitted and top sheet) for half an hour before bed! When it's bed time we pull it out, get into a toasty warm bed and pull the duvet out.

LeaLeander · 04/02/2016 00:08

A tip: Last year i wanted to purchase a heated throw and found that for only about $20 more I could get a heated twin-size blanket. I use it as a throw on the sofa but when guests stay it can double as a heated blanket on the bed in the spare room.

YellowBucket · 04/02/2016 00:53

My Lidl one did similar but with a nasty burning smell. Refunded with no question and no receipt. They also sent me £25 in gift vouchers as an apology. I was almost embarrassed at how nice they were about it.
I'd been smug about mine too - maybe they have an anti smug plug fitted?

MadisonAvenue · 04/02/2016 01:05

Aldi are great with returns, from experience. My parents bought a halogen cooker back in the Autumn and it burst into flames just before Christmas. Thinking it was something they'd done wrong they just threw it away. A few weeks ago my Dad thought he'd seen one on an advert poster in the window for a future 'event' so asked me to pick them one up. I couldn't see any so Googled them and found that there'd been a product recall on them. I contacted customer services and said that although they had the receipt, they had no cooker. It was no problem at all, Dad took the receipt in and was given an immediate refund with no questions asked.

AlwaysDancing1234 · 04/02/2016 01:31

I'm sympathising and shivering at the thought of you without your heated throw whilst simultaneously wondering how I didn't know these things existed and wondering how quickly I can get one ordered and delivered.

mix56 · 04/02/2016 08:01

whoops sorry dodge, complete fool, had my eyeballs lazered, clearly not a success !

Notgrumpyjustquiet · 04/02/2016 08:10

OP surely if you bought it for business use you would have kept the receipt for your tax return? Although having said that, such a necessary item must surely be vat free in a civilised country like biscuits are.
