Just listening to him live on Ken Bruce show - his poor voice, it's nothing like it was in the 1970s is it? Ouch.

Fair enough derxa, but you did say he was a force for good, and I'm afraid I can't agree. Without wanting to make things worse, the remark I quoted was probably the worst but it's far from an isolated case. As I said I liked him a lot in my youth (saved up to buy Goodbye Yellow Brick Road as my first ever album purchase) but I am far from impressed with him these days.

Without dismissing the nastiness of that comment AT ALL, I think his fund-raising for AIDS research and sufferers weighs pretty heavily in his favour.

wasontjelist on the contrary, I'm horrified he said that. I said "why" because I was so shocked that anyone could say such a disgusting thing. Im shocked you think my tone implied I'd think certain circumstances would excuse it. I couldn't stand the man before but that is disgusting.

I thought how dreadful he sounded at the golden jubilee concert, this latest offering just confirms that his voice is obviously awful even in the studio. Not keen on (what I have read about) his personality, his songs were OK but he is well past his prime now.
Never been a fan of Rod Stewart but he comes across as a nice enough fella and can still sing well, as can Jones The Voice.
