AIBU
I went out for lunch with my dd and my sister and her dd, after the meal I went to the baby change to change my daughters bum. Came back and my sister started changing her toddlers bum at the table. aIBu to think this isn't right! Go to the baby change for god sake. I said are you doing that there and she said yeah
I had to walk out with embarrassment!

kingjoffrey I'm the MNer whose friend allowed her potty-training DD to climb onto the table and use the potty during lunch. It was about 25 years ago and I will never forget it. That DD is getting married in May.

Horrible sil changed a dirty nappy on my brand new sofa!
Didn't even ask for a towel to put baby on, just merrily carried on - and it was dirty.
We have haven't had them here since.
I was appalled.

carabos · 04/02/2016 08:55

kitty she didn't have to, she wanted to attention seeking little mare, still the same today and her mum never said no to her about anything. It was without a doubt one of the most revolting things I've ever seen. A couple of us who were there still mention it today when we see each other. It keeps us connected even though we live a opposite ends of the country and only meet once or twice a year, so some good came of it Grin.

I have had an (expensive but small) London restaurant lay up a table for me in the corner to change my tiny baby on, and then change the table cloth. I had popped in to join some friends for a late lunch and the restuarant was embarassed that there was nowhere suitable in the swish chrome themed tiny toilet to change a baby. Not a yummy mummy destination! So the maitre d' had a table laid up for me. I thought it was a rather styish solution to a rarely encountered problem.

I proved that "no good deed goes unpunished" by offering to hold a baby for a woman who sat next to me on a plane while she went to the loo. She must have been gone for 30 minutes and predictably the baby screamed blue murder after about 2 minutes and I got death stares from other passengers.... Then i went to the loo when she came back and she was changing baby's shitty nappy on my seat and had left orange streaks The smell was gross and all through the cabin. We had a heated discussion and cabin crew upgraded me and gave me champagne for my frazzled nerves!

Amazingly the woman thought she had done nothing wrong - despite the actual shit smear on my seat - because the nappy change units in the bathroom were "not convenient"... Who does that?!?!

Only1scoop · 04/02/2016 09:12

Young that is grim.

Nice payback for your good deed.

I see this quite often at work, I also once saw a woman get a pissy stained soggy potty out of a dirty carrier bag and put it on the seat. She then sat toddler on potty who was clearly straining. I intervened and was shot down in flames and told I 'clearly wasn't a mother'

Also had someone hand me what looked like a bottle of orange juice on disembarking. It was warm I looked puzzled. 'Better than letting him pee himself' I was told as she pointed to about a 6 year old.

Grim grim grim

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 04/02/2016 09:16

scoop are you crew? Brave woman!

On the passenger shaming blog, I saw a picture of a family who had put newspaper on the seat and were encouraging their toddler to poo on it Shock Small comfort but at least your passenger had a potty/bottle....

I used to have a small folding changing mat that came with my baby bag to use when out and about.
No need to stain seats. Shock

Only1scoop · 04/02/2016 09:24

Young that is truly horrific.Shock

katienana · 04/02/2016 09:26

I had to change ds on a plane once, he was 4 months old and we'd landed and everyone was standing in the aisle. It was literally 15 minutes before the doors opened! I used a mat though and put the dirty nappy in the changing bag. Was that OK?

leelu66 · 04/02/2016 09:35

Diddly

If OP is talking about babies in generally then it's fine to say babies' instead of baby's.

CornishDoll82 · 04/02/2016 09:41

Restaurant table isn't really on but I don't change my daughter in the bathroom at home or at friends houses. We just change wherever on a mat on the floor!

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 04/02/2016 09:43

Katie if it was poo you should have waited imo. Anything noxious smelling in a small metal tube full of people is pretty fucking antisocial.

Only1scoop · 04/02/2016 09:46

I'd have told everyone to sit down for you so you could get your baby to changing area.

See a lot of changing on seats during disembarking. Normally they just leave nappy on floor or in seat pocket. At least you took yours away.

JapaneseSlipper · 04/02/2016 11:55

"I used to meet a group of mums from my antenatal group for coffee when our babies were small, round at each other's houses.

I was the only one who took the baby to the bathroom to change a nappy - everyone else did it on the lounge floor, the dining table, the kitchen units confused

All of them went & washed their hands afterwards, so why didn't they take the baby with them in the first place?"

WitchWay I'm interested to know where exactly it's convenient to change a baby in a domestic bathroom. In the bath tub? On the floor? On the loo seat?

Sorry, but I'd have changed a (pee) nappy on the living room floor too.

Also, OP YABU but the phrase "changed my daughter's bum" is really unpleasant. Why do you say that?

JapaneseSlipper · 04/02/2016 11:55

Sorry - OP YANBU about your sister.

Diddlydokey · 04/02/2016 12:35

leelu that's why grammar is important, it helps you understand.

Lweji · 04/02/2016 12:40

Yes, the OP could be talking about a single nappy used by all our babies.

Not that it matters much here.
I get the feeling that the OP is winding up.

I hope she hasn't gone NC with her sister over this.

LeaLeander · 04/02/2016 12:44

When visitors to my home change nappies I ask they do it in the bathtub, which I can later easily rinse with bleach. Not on my rugs or furniture.

OzzieFem · 04/02/2016 13:25

OP That's disgusting and a health hazard. I'm surprised no staff member approached her. I can just imagine the fine the place would have got if a health inspector was visiting at the time.

My aunt once changed a nappy on the counter of the church cafe. I'm still not sure why she did this.

Crazypetlady · 04/02/2016 13:38

Making people change babies in the bath Shock
I would never change my son on a restaurant table or around food but have no problem doing it in my living room.
