I accidentally used some racist and homophobic words in a satirical way

This was after a few drinks last night, woke up today feeling awful. I apologized profusely last night and everyone seemed to find it funny but I still feel quite bad, I know it was unacceptable.

Its only because I've been off work and played GTA5 many many hours this week and a few of the words were in my mind. I get that the game is a bit of a joke and satire, I was kind of using them in the same way but I know someone from the outside might see it differently.

Should I appoligise more or just leave it?

Im just wondering how the conversation was going that the op was able to slip in racist and homophobic comments or was it just blurted out and saying satirical as if you were trying to be witty excuses nothing

eloquent · 29/01/2016 10:54

You'd be surprised how many parents do buy 18 games for their children. GTA being a popular one.

Kryptonite · 29/01/2016 10:58

annnd this is a game that some parents quite happily let their 8 year olds on (some people at school, I'm looking at you)
a game with racist and homophobic language and it's apparently acceptable to some for kids --leaving out the murders and everything. Hmm

Kryptonite · 29/01/2016 10:59

strike out fail Blush

ilovesooty · 29/01/2016 10:59

Accidentally? Yeah right. Hmm

And of course the OP is admitting it on here. She's trying to be "controversial".

Lweji · 29/01/2016 11:08

You should clearly stay off the booze and GTA. Surely there are other similar less distasteful games around...

3sugarsplease · 29/01/2016 11:15

Alcohol doesn't turn you into a racist homophobe, you either are one or you're not.

Using alcohol is quite frankly a shite excuse.

livingintheNL · 29/01/2016 11:18

Ok thanks everyone, I knew I would be in for a bumpy ride.

It came up just pretending to insult each other to do with getting the next round in. The names didn't even collateral to her, so it was obviously satire.

The reason I posted this was to maybe get someone else to admit they had slipped out with words / phrases they would never use but have just heard them many times so they were added to internal dictionary. Or maybe a physiologist with a professional view on this. I can't be the only one, I've let slip "fat fuck" after watching the sopranos.

Some people are being very cat faced about it, I let slip two words nothing physical.

Yes MrsJayy you legend I'm behind

ilovesooty · 29/01/2016 11:35

Nice stoking of the fire there OP.

Lweji · 29/01/2016 11:36

I let slip two words

You didn't say that on your OP, but then maybe you just want a reaction out of this thread?

KylieTheQuestion · 29/01/2016 11:40

No idea what OP means please explain or join the 21st century

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 29/01/2016 11:52

I'm no medic but I don't think there is a physiological connection between getting lammed and letting slip "satirical" racism/homophobia.

As I said upthread, and to use another less satirical example....we've all made arses out of ourselves when pissed. Confessing that we fancy that bloke in our class etc....(y'know, when we were too young to know any better etc) But again, that's saying when pissed what's been thought before.

Dutch courage indeed.....or perhaps not.

Lweji · 29/01/2016 11:55

No idea what OP means please explain or join the 21st century

I would explain, but the snarky comment just makes me not want to.
Why don't you join the 21st century and google it?

leelu66 · 29/01/2016 12:01

The names didn't even collateral to her, so it was obviously satire.

This is even worse, because you thought you could get away with it, as people the names would 'collateral' to (whatever that means) weren't present.

The reason I posted this was to maybe get someone else to admit they had slipped out with words / phrases they would never use but have just heard them many times so they were added to internal dictionary.

But you did use them. Are you trying to get people to agree it's reasonable to use racist and homophobic words when you're drunk?

Lweji · 29/01/2016 12:31

slipped out with words / phrases they would never use

Clearly, if you used them, they are not words you/we'd never use.

ShortandSweeter · 29/01/2016 13:26

get over it. It's hardly a big deal if no-one was offended. Anything that's ever been said can be found offensive by someone in the world.

JohnLuther · 29/01/2016 14:21

I play Tomb Raider but I'm yet to kill a bear or discover a secret burial place.

livingintheNL · 29/01/2016 16:42

Thanks Short, best reply ever :)

OP posts:
LittleLionMansMummy · 29/01/2016 17:08

Yes how incisive and thought provoking Short, well worth of the 'best reply ever' accolade Hmm

OP I take it you're now over the hand wringingly awfulness of it all. Or ilovesooty is right and coming on here was merely another attempt to be, ahem, satirical.

I'd hate to imagine what circles Short moves in.
