I accidentally used some racist and homophobic words in a satirical way

This was after a few drinks last night, woke up today feeling awful. I apologized profusely last night and everyone seemed to find it funny but I still feel quite bad, I know it was unacceptable.

Its only because I've been off work and played GTA5 many many hours this week and a few of the words were in my mind. I get that the game is a bit of a joke and satire, I was kind of using them in the same way but I know someone from the outside might see it differently.

Should I appoligise more or just leave it?

I play FIFA but I've managed not to break into the Barcelona first team. Lucky escape there.

BadLad · 29/01/2016 09:18

Spudlet, which Sonic game? All the recent ones have been shit.

Sonic was excellent.

Sparklingbrook · 29/01/2016 09:18

BadLad I am now pondering getting some trials for DS2 he plays a lot of FIFA.

Sparklingbrook · 29/01/2016 09:19

The last game I played was Rabbids on the Wii. Bashing other Rabbids with sausages and doing loud burps.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 29/01/2016 09:19

Oh dear, Spudlet! I can imagine it's very similar to the time I played Mario and ate those mushrooms.... Why can we not control ourselves after playing games, or watching tv? These things should be banned I tell you! They're warping our fragile minds!

DonkeyOaty · 29/01/2016 09:21

Sonic 2 made my eyes go all weird going down the tunnel to get the chaos emerald. We've still got a mega drive and the teens LOVE it. PGA golf and Sonic. Hah

Sparklingbrook · 29/01/2016 09:21

You can't beat a bit of ski jumping on the Wii IMO.

DonkeyOaty · 29/01/2016 09:23

Oh yes. And Wii party. Must heave the box out, I can feel a sesh coming on...

leelu66 · 29/01/2016 09:24

Its only because I've been off work and played GTA5 many many hours this week

No. It's because you thought you were 'drunk' so could get away with it.

If you had the capability and self-awareness to 'apologise profusely', then you had capability and self-awareness to refrain from using racist and homophobic language.

Stop blaming a game and alcohol. Take responsibility and grow up.

Sparklingbrook · 29/01/2016 09:25

I might have a jog around wii fitty island later. Grin

DurhamDurham · 29/01/2016 09:29

Same with me, I can't help wearing ridiculous boiler suits and driving erratically over giant mushrooms when I've played too much Super Mario.

MrsJayy · 29/01/2016 09:30

twojumpingbeans · 29/01/2016 09:34

I have no idea what GTA is...?

eloquent · 29/01/2016 09:35

I'm sorry thread, but after a good Mario session I always have the urge to jump on turtles.
Stop being so judhemental.
My grass is a mess thanks to Zelda Sad

eloquent · 29/01/2016 09:36

Durham you mean Mario Kart, FFS GET IT RIGHT! Mario Kart does actually make me very angry

DurhamDurham · 29/01/2016 09:40

Eloquent I'm simply not nerdy enough to get it right. I just dabble in games, couldn't call myself a proper fan Grin

LaContessaDiPlump · 29/01/2016 09:52

Just putting my hard hat on.....

I used to scathingly refer to things as 'gay' all the time back when I was young, stupid and didn't think about what I was actually saying (i.e. the implication that gay is bad). I would never intentionally say it now that I've matured, but every so often when I wish to be scathing about something the word bubbles up to the top of my head and I have to make an active effort NOT to say it. I don't agree with the sentiments now, in fact I don't think I ever agreed with them at all, but the word is still there.

It is just possible that the op is suffering from having actually said the shit things as a result of drinking too much, rather than as a result of being a racist homophobe. If that's the case op, then tough break. Maybe you need to drink less if it's affecting you this badly.

MotherKat · 29/01/2016 09:58

If my kids imitate behavior from video games that is inappropriate the game is confiscated, if the offense is repeated 3 times the game is removed not to be returned. The behavior is the responsibility of the player, if a 10 year old can understand that so can you.
Put yourself on a timeout from the game and maybe think about the attitude that you have that may be underlying.

2016Hopeful · 29/01/2016 10:00

I don't think the games should use racist language but if you were kind of doing an impression of a character in a game I can kind of see why you would copy the language used.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up never to buy that game for my kids!

ghostyslovesheep · 29/01/2016 10:02

I am a huge fan of Luther ...but I have yet to murder my parents and family dog in order to meet him

yabu OP and homophobic and racist

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 29/01/2016 10:03

LaContessaDiPlump8, you're quite right. I think most people, especially when young, have used such language to fit in, or thinking they're funny. Eventually, someone pulls you up on it, you know it's wrong and you adjust your behaviour (happened with me at least!). The issue I personally have with the OP, is they are excusing using ignorant language on playing games. Unless they are either 12, or have cognative impairments, adults should know better than blaming silly things they have said or done, on the media they watch or read.

ShortandSweeter · 29/01/2016 10:05

Storm in a teacup.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 29/01/2016 10:06

2016Hopeful - the game is an 18, so one would hope you'd know not to 'buy it for your kids' anyway Hmm.

LittleLionMansMummy · 29/01/2016 10:07

I'm just intrigued you saw fit to admit it on here op. Mn in general and especially AIBU does not exactly embrace racism and homophobia. What were you thinking?! It's said now, no amount of apologising will rectify the situation. That's why it's not advisable to drink alcohol if you can't keep your offensive comments to yourself.
