Son has dance lessons at high school (year 7) it's bare feet only and he's broken out in a foot full of verrucas!
He said the room stinks of sweat and the floor is not sanitised between lessons.
Today I wrote a note asking for him to keep his socks on until further notice so I can get the treated and find an alternative to keep his feet covered, either by grip socks or some kind of pumps.
The teacher refused and made him do it bare foot anyway!

Send him in plimsoles and tell the teacher to FTFO.

Bare feet? It's 2016, not the Victorian workhouse era.

Doing exercise in bare feet is crap anyway. Feet need support.

Not safe to do it in socks as they are slippy, unless you get the ones with grippy bits (I used that type of sock for a barefoot piloxing class)

She said it was dangerous in socks which I get which is why I'm going to source some grip socks.
I hate verrucas though, remember having them as a kid and they are a nightmare to shift!

My DCs school have to do it barefoot too. I find it gross too but suspect H&S will be quoted.
Might be worth seeing if there's information that could be downloaded from NHS or some such that would back up your request?

Verrucas are unsightly but completely harmless. My understanding is that nowadays doctors aren't remotely interested in them. Kids all get them, build up an immunity against them, and don't get them again. I think.

Think you can get them again. They can be painful as well as unsightly.

I think you can get them a few times, but after a while, you don't anymore. For example, I never get them, and I'm a swimming teacher.

Hmmm, got me thinking now, maybe by using the sock I'd be drawing attention to them? I'd be mortified if someone else got them and he copped the blame for it off other kids!

Arethere - sorry, but I think you're wrong. I'm 45 and have been getting them since I was about 8, how old do I have to be before the alleged immunity starts? Also, they can be quite painful as well as unsightly. I'd be furious if my child was exposed to them in this way, given that I always wear flip flops or socks & slippers so she doesn't get them from me.

It's difficult because I can see from both sides, they are painful, unsightly and a bugger to get rid of, I'd hate for others to get them. On the other hand yes I can see why socks are dangerous. I've bought a pair of yoga socks so school will hopefully agree to him wearing them.

Horrible things to get rid of but eventually your body does this on its own unless you have something else going on. Once they've gone though that should be it and you're immune.

Barbarian - yes it does if you know you've got a verruca and don't cover it with a paint on covering (like bazuka), or a verruca sock. And maybe I'm old fashioned, but we always wore plimsolls for dance and sport at school, they're not exactly extortionate to buy. I'm also not sure what's wrong with everyone wearing their normal sports kit trainers or school shoes, but I may be wrong as my DD is still a preschooler.

It's a bit like head lice OP. It happens. I wouldn't be furious about it though.

Dd had a cluster of verrucas on her foot. I bought some salactol (£3.50) and 3 days later all but 1 big one has gone. Fab stuff. Had to ask the pharmacist as it was behind the till.

I've been furious about head lice too.
I'm sick of spending my Sunday evenings combing my daughters hair out, they just don't give up them little bleeders! Unfortunately I can't prevent nits however I did encourage school to remind parents in the weekly news letter about checking over the weekend.

Verrucas can be prevented though.

DS had 3 verrucas, were a bugger to get rid of. Eventually they went with the treatment from the docs, an acid paint on stuff. Now he has another one so they do come back. He also has a wart which just isn't shifting.

I've had one for about 6 years, doctor said it would go away on its own after a year or 2, that hasn't happened. I forget it's there tbh.

According to DS loads in his class has them, I don't think they do any PE in bare feet though. I honestly think it's extremely difficult to prevent them.

Ive had one for 16 years. In fact i mentioned it to the dr again last week and im getting yet another referral to see now if minor surgery is appropriate. Ive been told due to location probably not. Ive seen a number of chiropodists, ive had a year of cryo, tried every counter treatment and also every old wives tale.!

Sorry Forgot my point! When dancing (such as pole dancing, which i dont actually do anymore) when bare feet are required, i always wore ballet shoes.

I reckon hundreds of kids go swimming with them. They spread easily in damp conditions. You don't see anyone wearing those white plastic socks anymore as apparently they were exacerbating the spreading.
