To not invite nits to the party

Bodberry · 24/01/2016 22:36

Our LO is having a party, we know that a couple of the potential invitees have unwelcome guests in the hair department. their parents are treating them, but would we be U to not invite them? They aren't part of LO's social group and if nits were to strike it would be pretty obvious where they came from, but the invitees are quite close and if we don't invite it could make other gatherings awkward.

Or do we just make it a swimming cap party?

BODBERRY

Fuxache, phone, I'll squish YOU in a minute.

Soooosie · 25/01/2016 00:35

It's only nits! It's not some deadly parasite.

Badbadtromance · 25/01/2016 06:41

You sound nice op

UnderCrackers5 · 25/01/2016 09:20

If you carry on like this, your LO will grow up to be like you. Now you wouldn't want that, would you?

gBean · 25/01/2016 09:22

Grin at "they're nits not tarantulas"

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 25/01/2016 10:10

Probably worth asking your sister if she's checked her own hair too ...

Sad

My dc has two friends who have repeated nits - long hair I think is the trouble. She's never yet caught it from them despite sitting next to them all day at school.

intothebreach · 25/01/2016 14:34

You can only really catch headlice from someone who has the same blood group as you. If licr from somebody with a different blood group to you manage to crawl onto your head, they won't last long (although if they manage to lay eggs before they bite, those baby lice will become "yours", and can bite and breed as much as they like).

My 3 year old has a common blood group and is always crawling with headlice when he comes home from nursery. I comb him with a nitty gritty every night. I am O negative (quite rare) and only comb my own hair once a week. Despite all the close contact we have, I have never found more than two lice in my long hair, and there were none this morning.

You do not always "catch nits" from playing with "nitty" children. And if you do, it's hardly the end of the world Smile

AuntieStella · 25/01/2016 14:39

I'm sure we used to have a children's book about a rare outbreak of head monkeys.

I can't have imagined it, can I?

Bodberry · 26/01/2016 23:07

Thanks all, I've had my arse served on a plate here and I've learned not to judge nits, children or siblings children.
If any of you vipers are really my sister, - HIYA, miss you our kid xxx

I had 3 lice yesterday but none today

Nit combing with conditioner and a nitty gritty comb makes your hair really glossy.

Invite the infested kids you meanie Grin

Brightnorthernlights · 26/01/2016 23:19

Intothebreach.....wow. I thought I had a pretty good knowledge about the life cycle of nits/lice, I never knew about the different blood group thing....

Sallyhasleftthebuilding · 26/01/2016 23:39

I didn't know that about blood groups - explains why one DC is less infected than the others - makes sense!

I may be the only one sympathetic to OPs crazy post lol. I know for a fact ive had lice just in primary school alone a record 10 times. As ive mentioned before I didn't come from a lovely home, although I know my parents loved us all they didn't cope well, that's another story. Anyway point is id get a mouthful and maybe a few slaps everytime I had it, like I had invited the nits? Then id have rough treatment more abuse for weeks whilst it was cleaned out of my hair, id need several treatments before the critters would leave

I had long hair, always tied back but didn't help. A lot had to do with kids going abroad to 3rd world destinations then not bothering checking their kids heads.

Since then ive had it from my kids maybe 5 more times. As soon as I hear someone in my family has it you can be assured ill be the first to get it. So please keep your kids away from me, ive got some sort of bad luck I'm always singled about by head lice they target me lol

I'm laughing now but I have sat there crying when I'm there every night for 1 week combing my hair to get rid of eggs. if my girls get it its a bloody pain 3 girls and long hair, bloody nightmare. Son has long hair too really thick so that's worse. I'm always left to clean it husband doesn't do it.

so I understand OP still my nice side takes over, id still invite them use tea tree oil braid/tie hair in bun for your kids, or cap on head for boys nothing more.

Regarding someone comment about shaving head at door that made me laugh, but I know a woman who does it. She has 6 girls all with long hair. Once I went to visit them as usual on a weekend and the 4 youngest had hair cut very short like a boy cut, anymore they may as well have shaved it off. they were between 7 and 3 back then. Ive seen kids like that when I was growing up, I suspected nits but wasn't sure, now I'm certain that's why it was shaved or cut so short lol

Let's leave p.a. At the door please.
