Never been photogenic, so avoided old photo thursday on facebook! Other peoples were nice though.

TSSDNCOP · 22/01/2016 20:29

IT was the law to have a do like that in the 70's and 80's. Mine looks exactly like it but with a beautiful sheen. It was in tip top condition and served to make me look exactly like a Lego man.

IfItsGoodEnough4ShirleyBassey · 22/01/2016 20:32

Never mind. All the parents of children with disastrous school photos can reassure themselves with this cracker of a young George Clooney.

SlinkyVagabond · 22/01/2016 20:33

Not me, but my mate's little boy had one done at playgroup. Lovely photo, until you look a bit closer and saw the huge green bogey up his nose.
My fave one of my three has Ds 1 and three doing this 😃 And Ds 2 doing this ☹️

PerspicaciaTick · 22/01/2016 20:35

My entire class wore flares and polo-neck jumpers (unisex T-shirts in summer). We all had identical haircuts (although one girl added ribbons to the scissored mess). There were some NHS glasses too. And even the girls wore blue and green ( and orange and lots of brown). Our class photo is a sight to behold.

MitzyLeFrouf · 22/01/2016 20:35

Yikes. George Clooney looks like the creepy child killed from The Lovely Bones in that photo.

You all look adorable!

suchan you must be a similar age to me as i remember wearing dresses like those! Matched with my sister too!

Goingtobeawesome · 22/01/2016 20:40

Suchan - your username is way off. You were lovely.

BadlyBehavedShoppingTrolley · 22/01/2016 21:00

Everyone had their fringes cut with a knife and fork in the 60s and 70's. It was the law. The wonkier the better.

At least I think it must have been the law as I've seen some absolutely SHOCKING fringes that look like they were cut by a monkey in a blindfold with a pair of garden shears.

MuddlingMackem · 22/01/2016 21:44

I guess I was lucky not to have a fringe as a child then. Grin

Elledouble · 22/01/2016 22:36

I had a fringe (90s). I looked like a sheepdog, it was really thick and awful. My mum finally let me grow it out at senior school, but made me wear an ugly brown crocodile clip to 'keep it off my face'. So on my year 7 school photo I've got this bloody awful long bob with this horrible clip wobbling about on the top of my head. Cringe.

RoboticSealpup · 22/01/2016 22:44

Such cute rosy cheeks, OP! You were lovely. But your hair was a right mess

RascarCapac · 22/01/2016 22:59

I am the middle child with an older and younger brother. My frugal grandfather used to take the three of us to the barbers to have our hair cut as a job lot when we were small in the early 70's. I have a unisex name (think "Sam") and a lot of hand me downs, so a boys hair cut finished the look off nicely Hmm

My grandfather told me a very funny story about 15 years later: he was at the barbers and one of them said "how are those grandkids of yours these days". My grandfather said, "oh "Sam" has just got into university, we're all very proud of her". And the barber said "Her? her? You mean one of them was a ...girl???" (And then wrongly guess it was my very blonde younger brother!)

Cocolepew · 22/01/2016 23:04

Not a school photo but I get you're all jealous of my hand knitted tunic. Look how happy I am.

MitzyLeFrouf · 22/01/2016 23:06

Alexa Chung would love that outfit!

MitzyLeFrouf · 22/01/2016 23:06

I like the shire horse, a very 1970s animal the shire horse.

Decanter · 22/01/2016 23:11

whatdoIget I'm lolling at that story Grin

Cocolepew · 22/01/2016 23:14

I was very fashion forward.
I'm probably wearing a flare trouser.

Actually I'm surprised I'm wearing girls clothes, I usually got my brothers hand me downs

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 22/01/2016 23:32

I actually look ok in old photos, is recent ones that are the problem!Grin

Yes! What happened to shire horses?

SqueakyPip · 22/01/2016 23:53

I am a girl. Thank you 1970s Hmm

Casmama · 22/01/2016 23:56

My ds1 can be very photogenic however 3 specific occasions where he really didn't - the bounty photo- I really didn't think through what a sleeping baby tightly wrapped in a white blanket would look like but was really upset when I got it.
The nursery photo where I was offered one print of a screaming child- as if I would pay for that.
His P2 school phot which even he described as "creepy" Grin

It's difficult for kids to take a good photo when they are self conscious without any added difficulties

WitchWay · 23/01/2016 00:00

There is a hideous school picture of me as a six year old with NHS specs, bunches, no front teeth & a huge grin Grin

Years later I commented to my DM "how on earth did you let me go to school looking like that on photo day?"

"Your Dad & I thought you were lovely" she replied Smile Blush

MitzyLeFrouf · 23/01/2016 00:00

Squeaky you look like a teeny weeny scrumptious mod.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 23/01/2016 00:03

Squeak. Aww. You were such a cutie.
