To not understand why women do this?

Tomboyinatutu · 21/01/2016 10:27

Why do alot of pregnant women feel the need to take pictures of their bump in their underwear? Or just in their pants holding their boobs with one arm? I don't get it! You can still see the bump if you are wearing trousers. I am pregnant myself, with my third and have never felt the need to do it so I just don't get why some women do it and then put them on the web for any tom dick and harry to look at?

I didn't show my bump pics to anyone except dh and close family. Although my aunty made me a book (those professional ones online) full of my pregnancy/bump and newborn baby pics, with a scan pic on the front cover and her freshly popped out face on the back. Grin It was the best gift ever. I keep it in the nursery and love leafing through when I feel broody sentimental.

I think bumps are beautiful :)

museumum · 21/01/2016 18:08

I wouldn't take a photo of a new haircut wearing a hat. So why take a photo of a bump with the bump all covered up?

ShelaghTurner · 21/01/2016 18:12

Each to their own. Pregnancy is bloody wonderful and our bodies are damned clever. Most women's bodies will only go through such a momentous change on a couple of occasions so what the hell, photograph away!

Fratelli · 21/01/2016 18:20

I just wouldn't ever put a photo of myself in my underwear all over the Internet. Each to their own though. If I were to take one it would be for dp and I. But then I don't put everything on fb Grin

It's all part of the modern philosophy that everything has to be shared with the wider world: what you had for breakfast, what your sex life is like, your pregnancy bump, what sex your unborn child is…….

Glad those days are over for me and so glad I was young in a more private age (and no, I do not mean repressed either).

All TMO these days.

grimbletart · 21/01/2016 18:26

TMI even….

Doublebubblebubble · 21/01/2016 18:29

I have with all of my pregnancies... I find how my body changes fascinating - I like to document it - simple.

ThursdayLastWeek · 21/01/2016 18:38

hmm, I do this - and share on FB in groups of like minded people who are interested in my pregnancy.

Apart from that I totally agree with what LadyLikeCough said.
I like how I look in those images. And not because I think I look like a goddess or whatever, I'm just not crippled with self doubt.

ThursdayLastWeek · 21/01/2016 18:40

In fact I really really like LadylikeCoughs post.

Heaven forbid women actually enjoy their own bodies.

mrsmugoo · 21/01/2016 18:45

I wouldn't.

But I can see why women would want to document their naked changing body.

What grimble said. Fine for private viewing to remember what you looked like pregnant, but honestly - one bump looks like another and really not interesting enough for general sharing FB.

ForalltheSaints · 22/01/2016 20:27

So 1990s!

Topseyt · 22/01/2016 21:05

I never did this and never "got it" either.

I was interested in my own bumps (but didn't take photographs of them). Wasn't at all interested in anyone else's and wouldn't have expected them to be interested in mine either.

My babies were born in 1995, 1998 and 2002, so certainly for the first two the internet had not yet fully taken off. I wouldn't have posted pics online, but horses for courses I guess.

chickflicklover · 23/01/2016 00:57

I don't really understand why people pay for expensive maternity photoshoots. They are very popular in America but they don't seem to have caught on as much in the UK.

MrsMook · 23/01/2016 08:15

I was fascinated by the changes in my body going from a 27 inch waist to a 43 inch waist. Taking a picture in underwear proved to the people I know that my body was really doing this and was not an over sized prosthetic smuggled under my failingly skimpy maternity clothes :-D

Narp · 23/01/2016 08:26

I blame Demi Moore

Narp · 23/01/2016 08:28

I took a few photos. Because it's pretty amazing to look back and remember what you looked like, and to show your children where they grew for a while.

As for Fb - think it's nonsense so I wouldn't share those sort of pictures anyway

TwllBach · 23/01/2016 08:28

Funnily enough I was just contemplating doing this Grin I'm 26 weeks pregnant after miscarriages and I have taken bump photos every week since about 15 weeks even though I can now see there was nothing there but alwYs clothed, mostly because I have horrendous body image issues.

Now I have a big bump and DP has taught me that I'm/it's beautiful and I'm really proud of my body for what it's doing. For the first time in my life I can walk around naked in front of someone (only DP) and lie naked in front of him so he can kiss and stroke and prod the baby trying to make it move talk to my tummy.

I'm proud of my bump and what it represents for me. I went for a wee this morning and very nearly took a naked bump photo where I would have used one arm for my boobs... The only reason I didn't tbh was because I noticed how wild my nether regions were looking Grin but I will be doing so when I have some pants on.

Just for me and DP though, no social media for that one!

Shirkingfromhome · 23/01/2016 09:18

Each to their own and all that but I find them really cheesy. The same as those makeover / glamour shoots.

SirChenjin · 23/01/2016 10:18

Or boudoir shoots....

At least they don't usually make it onto FB though Grin

Shirkingfromhome · 23/01/2016 11:29

There's been a few rogue offenders on mine!

SirChenjin · 23/01/2016 11:39

Boudoir shots on FB?? Shock

Defriend Grin
