AIBU to think you NEED butter on your toast before the jam??

DP handed me toast at the weekend that didn't have butter on before the jam. He claims it makes no difference but I argued you need it to soften the toast before the jam goes on. He offered to put some butter on top of the jam because 'surely it's the same thing'.

AIBU or is he completely and utterly in the wrong and frankly a bit weird?

YANBU. The man is a monster. Leave before it's too late and he starts making tea by putting the milk in first.

Butter with chocolate spread is vile. Should be grated cheese.

welshmammy2009 · 20/01/2016 19:39

has to be butter before jam

weeblueberry · 20/01/2016 19:44

Oh no I need butter with Nutella. Then it's like buttery chocolate heaven!! I don't feel quite as strongly about that however...

Noooooooo! No butter with peanut butter or chocolate spread! What is this madness?! Shock

TPel · 20/01/2016 19:56

The only point of butter is to put it on toast.

CremeEggThief · 20/01/2016 20:02

Butter/spread is pointless with peanut butter and chocolate spreads. My XH used yo do this. Yuk!

bellaSorela · 20/01/2016 20:03

Yes butter then jam

LovelyFriend · 20/01/2016 20:11

my kids hate butter on toast with other things. butter by itself is fine. jam by itself is perfect. butter AND jam is the devils work (to them).

i like butter with everything but I am quite fat.

so i'm happy to encourage the DC's under-butter aversion..

BigDamnHero · 20/01/2016 21:10

Why would you ever have toast without butter?? Shock

Toast always always needs butter.

Toast with jam? Butter!
Toast with peanut butter? Butter!
Toast with Nutella? Butter!
Toast with cream cheese? Butter!

Then again, I've been known to butter the inside of pita bread and wraps. Bready stuff needs butter.

celeste83 · 20/01/2016 21:12

In my book yes jam on toast needs a undercoat of butter and lots of it.

CraftyMissus · 20/01/2016 21:15

I like it either way... Does that make me weird?

I won't put butter on toast if I'm using anything different on top though. So no butter if using nutella and banana, peanut butter, honey or Philly cheese.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 20/01/2016 21:17

I need buttered toast and jam now...

Jibberjabberjooo · 20/01/2016 21:19

DH does this, he is wrong.

PuntasticUsername · 20/01/2016 21:22

Damn you lot. Because of you, I just had to go and have toast with loads of butter and lemon curd on top.

Yes, I know lemon curd is half butter to start with.

I don't care, it was totally delicious.

bumbleymummy · 20/01/2016 21:29

mmmm lemon curd....
