to ask if you mop or wipe?

v v boring I know...we have been using anti-bac floor wipes the last couple of weeks for the kitchen and conservatory floor. Decided to put the mop round tonight as I'd run out of wipes. The water was black by the time I'd finished.
I used the anti-bac wipes every other day to do the floors and thought they were doing a good job until tonight.
Any one else notice this?

Wipes are hopeless, apart from a small bathroom floor maybe.

Mop and bucket I'm afraid!

MariaV0nTrapp · 20/01/2016 01:21

Mop and bucket, really hot water, bit of bleach, fairy, whatever and give it a good mopping. We spot clean as we go but it's usually properly mopped every other day (everyday in school holidays) and twice at the weekend. Unless we have a visitor due then it'll get mopped again. Front door comes into the kitchen so there's no letting it slide. Can't have people thinking were scruffy Blush

Omg I must get the slippers!

TowerRavenSeven · 20/01/2016 03:31

I use Swiffer pads, but on my hands and knees. Using the Swiffer 'stick' I find I can't put on as much pressure as I need to get the floor clean. I have a large kitchen and it takes me a half hour to do the floor this way. Still convenient, but more effective.

Mop from home bargains, the microfibres ones and spray floor with zoflora and bleach solution
Usually once a week but right now my floors are filtyhy and have been mop free for a couple of weeks-feel like a right dirty bugger! Almost tempted to get out of bed and mop up right now!

Vaccummed several times a day and steamed every evening. No, I don't have OCD nor am I Monica's long lost twin, but I do have an 18 month old who INSISTS on feeding himself. His aim isn't great so it ends up everywhere. Matters would be helped if he didn't put the upside bowl on his head when he was finished eating (even if his cereal is still in the bloody bowl) and then tossing all bowls, cups and cutlery to the floor in a final "ta-dah I'm finished!!!!" moment. I could use my own tears to wash the floor 😤

There are floor cleaning slippers?

CakeNinja · 20/01/2016 07:47

My sil bought me a pair of floor cleaning slippers Grin as a bit of a joke because I used to be obsessive about keeping the kitchen floor spotless and steam it every day.
They look like ridiculous, I don't wear them!

celeste83 · 20/01/2016 07:56

I don't think those disposable wipes are too great for the environment really. I try not to use disposable wipes full stop really.

TremoloGreen · 20/01/2016 19:15

Bluenails I have a Bona floor mop. Comes with a duster head and microfibre mop head. You can get special cleaner for either wood floors or tile/vinyl/laminate. The bottles are refillable with your own choice of clenaer if you don't want to keep buying the expensive one, but it does make everything really shiny. Bona make wood floors so I expect they know the best thing to clean them with without damaging them.

B&Q sell them and occasionally have them for 1/3 off.

Zinni · 20/01/2016 19:20

Can someone recommend a steam mop? They sound great!

AppleSetsSail · 20/01/2016 19:22

Surely you have to mop a couple of times weekly. Otherwise, wipe.
