to ask if you mop or wipe?

v v boring I know...we have been using anti-bac floor wipes the last couple of weeks for the kitchen and conservatory floor. Decided to put the mop round tonight as I'd run out of wipes. The water was black by the time I'd finished.
I used the anti-bac wipes every other day to do the floors and thought they were doing a good job until tonight.
Any one else notice this?

I came on here to be outraged that you were asking about wiping/mopping fanjos after a wee.

I guess that'll teach me.

QforCucumber · 19/01/2016 21:10

I bought the vileda spray mop a couple of months ago - love it and my floor had never been so clean (purely because I now do it daily instead of every few weeks)

Rumplebelle · 19/01/2016 21:16

I've just mopped, for the first time in my life earlier today, with my £2.99 noodle mop from Home Bargains and am over the moon with how clean the floor looks. Plus the mop bit is machine washable. I'm far more excited about this than I should be.
Sooooo much better than wipes.

JellyTotCat · 19/01/2016 21:17

I've got a Leifheit Clean and Away mop. You attach either a floor wipe or microfibre cloth to mop with. If using the microfibre cloth you squirt floor cleaner on the floor with it. m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/leifheit-clean-away-mop/p168325?sku=231002016&kpid=231002016&s_kenid=b241e608-48bd-4eca-88e5-152a374d3d2c&s_kwcid=404x1508517&tmad=c&tmcampid=73#page_loaded

Squirt floor cleaner on the floor to use with it i mean. Flash and Method do ones you don't need to use water with, you just squirt it on the floor.

Steam Clean!!!

SmallGreenBouncyBall · 19/01/2016 21:40

mop and buckets
wipes are wasteful and don't clean very well as you have discovered.

catbasilio · 19/01/2016 21:40

Mop with old jogging pants and a bucket of warm water.
I have been eyeing at spray mops as I feel my mopping is very much out of date.

I mop...rarely. Although I do only live in a tiny 1 bed flat with DH and two guinea pigs, and we don't wear our shoes in the flat...who am I kidding, I'm still a slattern. :(

Thankfully I generally hoover enough that the floors don't look totally grim, which is essential with guinea pigs, because hay gets EVERYWHERE. I once found a bit IN MY KNICKERS. :S

TimeToMuskUp · 19/01/2016 21:43

Steam thingy once a week as we've got animals and revolting children that leave trails of mange about the place.

PennyHasNoSurname · 19/01/2016 21:46

Where are you getting steam mops from, am after a recommendation please!

janethegirl2 · 19/01/2016 22:51

B&Q

nebulae · 19/01/2016 22:59

I don't think wipes would do a good enough job in heavy traffic areas like the kitchen. Mop + v hot water + bleach + couple of drops of Fairy liquid for the kitchen, but I do use floor wipes in the bathroom as its only small and doesn't really get dirty. Couldn't be bothered traipsing upstairs with the mop & bucket to do such a small space.

Pipbin · 19/01/2016 23:02

What is all this floor cleaning that people are talking about?
Who has the time to mop floors every month day?

liz70 · 19/01/2016 23:06

"I came on here to be outraged that you were asking about wiping/mopping fanjos after a wee. "

So it wasn't just me. Phew.

TimeToMuskUp · 19/01/2016 23:06

Vax one from Argos, super cheap in the sales last winter but still going strong and does a grand job. We bought the most dickheaded porcelain floor tiles when we did up the kitchen; what kind of knobends have that when they have animals and children? Anyway, it makes them sparkly and pristine when it's done, and it's so easy I can pay ask the 10 year old to do it.

Permanentlyexhausted · 19/01/2016 23:10

Mop for both kitchen and bathroom - I'm not crawling around on my hands and knees cleaning floors, especially as they're both large areas.

Keep meaning to get a steam mop but I haven't got round to it yet.

RedSoloCup · 19/01/2016 23:12

I don't actually clean my kitchen floor at all!! I just hoover it and wipe up spills as and when, it looks as good as new, I am slovenly!!!

liz70 · 19/01/2016 23:13

Currently using washable "shaggy" flat mop heads with a spray bottle filled with hot water, bleach and Zoflora. Kitchen floor (white tiles - why, previous owner, why???) gets done twice a week, rest of house (laminate except bathroom which is dark blue tiles) gets done once a week.

CakeNinja · 19/01/2016 23:14

Wipes?? I would probably use 50 cleaning my kitchen floor, plus I'd have the back ache from hell, my kitchen is huge!
I have a steam mop that I use every other day or sometimes every third day. We've got porcelain high gloss grey tiles which show every footprint, but underfloor heating too so dries almost instantly. Have got bifold doors so when it's warmer and the heating isn't on, I open the doors up and it dries quickly anyway.
Think my steam mop came from home base? It's a Vax one, can't fault it other than the price of the fluid!

ChesterFuckingDraws · 19/01/2016 23:21

I Hoover then wash on hands and knees with a bucket of water and a cloth. I only do it this way as its high gloss floor tiles that need buffed dry so it's easier to clean and buff as I go.
Wooded floor in lounge just gets hoovered and a quick damp swiffer if it looks a particularly grotty.

Oldraver · 20/01/2016 00:01

I did have some floor cleaning slippers years and years ago but were a faff.

I now have a piece of that green scrubby stuff hanging about and give odd spots on the floor a spray the sort of squidge with the green thing.

I am not overly bothered by a unclean kitchen floor

shadowfax07 · 20/01/2016 00:10

DP uses the steam mop once a week (or so), and I wipe up muddy paw prints with a damp microfibre cloth every time the dog makes them.

The steam mop was from Tesco, it's a Morphy Richards one.

clary · 20/01/2016 00:39

Anti bac wipes sound a bit expensive and not very environmental...

I mop with a steam mop, takes about 10 mins.

For small spills/marks in localised areas (eg someone's muddy boots when I mopped yesterday) I use a floor cloth - well it's usually a cut down pair of someone's fleecy joggers that have run their course. Ah I see catsbasili says the same Grin
