Fucking Jobsworth [word removed by MNHQ]

FATEdestiny · 19/01/2016 11:49

Fucking, bastarding jobsworth [word removed by MNHQ] at ASDA pharmacy refused to sell me a large (6 treatment) bottle of nit treatment, but I could buy three smaller (2 treatment) bottles.

Just because they are twatfaced "computer-says-no", no common sense, jobsworth twonks.

DS6 scratchy head last night. I suspected bedtime stalling tactics said I'd check properly the following day. DS10 scrubbing his head with brush this morning - asked what's wrong he said his hair itches. DD11 then pipes up that her hair has been itching too.

Three school aged children plus 1 baby means not loads of time in the morning. Not time to go through hair with a fine toothed comb (literally). Quick flick thro their hair to check they are not riddled and reassuring them it is no reason to stay off school.

I said I'd get treatment today, check with a nit comb afterschool and treat then if needed. But oh no. I cannot buy nit treatment without first confirming I had actually physically seen a headlice that day.

I should have just fucking lied to the sourfaced jobsworth behind the counter.

Twat.

Actually the twats are those who use the nit treatment stuff as a preventative and encourage resistance to the active ingredients. If it wasn't for these twats then sensible but busy Mums like me could but big-family-sized nit treatment and have it in the cupboard ready for when it is needed. And be trusted to only use it when it is needed.

Twats the lot a ya!

Um, buy it off the shelf! We found nits recently, late at night. DH went to the supermarket and picked it up of the shelf, went through checkout, job done. Don't get the angst at all.

I'd be fuming if I knew a parent had purposely sent their children in to school with nits without them being treated. Why spread the bloody misery to the rest!

BettyBleue · 19/01/2016 12:33

Why should the 'jobsworth' risk getting into trouble and possibly lose their job by going against the rules, just because a stroppy customer (you) throws a temper tantrum?

BarbaraofSeville · 19/01/2016 12:37

There is some reasonableness and unreasonableness on both sides to be honest - what are the rules that say that one big bottle of six doses is not allowed but 3 small dose bottles are?

It's probably similar to flea medication for cats. It is apparently against the rules to buy a six pack and use it for more than one cat. You are supposed to buy 2 three packs, each for a different cat. Of course, it costs more to do it this way, so I just lie when buying it and just say it is for one cat but use it on both.

So I fully agree with lying to circumvent rules that make no sense at all. Boots once refused to do my prescription because my idiot dentist had not put the date of issue on the form. In this case I wrote the date in myself and got it without problems at the next pharmacy I saw.

The paracetamol rules are to stop people committing suicide because anyone in a suicidal state would obviously not be able to go to their local shopping centre or retail park and pick up 2 packets each in the pound shop, supermarket, superdrug, Boots etc etc?

delusionsofadequacy · 19/01/2016 12:38

It is likely to be a licence issue. I.e. The small bottles are available for general sales and the large bottles only from the pharmacy so have restrictions - same as you can buy 32 paracetamol from anywhere but need to go to a pharmacy if you want more.

Bit harsh to expect her to break the rules, neither she nor Asda made them!

AdoraBell · 19/01/2016 12:39

OP if you haven't already bought the 3 small bottles then you can use olive oil and vinegar.

Still needs the detailed combing but I always used this as one of mine reacted to everything sold for headlice removal.

The olive oil, doesn't have to be expensive or extra virgin but does need to be olive, kills the adults and vinegar, again any cheap stuff, enables removal of the eggs when combing. You can use them separately or mix together. The vinegar can run into their eyes so have them them tip their head back and use a towel on the forehead to protect the eyes.

fidel1ne · 19/01/2016 12:42

Ah thank you delusion! That would have irritated me, had I not got the answer.

I think I'd have disappeared down an aisle and reappeared telling them I'd done a quick check of child and could confirm an infestation Smile

TantrumsAndBalloons · 19/01/2016 12:42

so you discovered head lice last night, all 3 dcs have them which kind of suggests this just didn't just appear last night and you sent them to school.

And then ranted about people being too lazy to treat head lice properly and instead use treatment as a preventative measure?

Anyone see the irony.....

Vaginaaa · 19/01/2016 12:42

The paracetamol thing will probably be more of a "we aren't responsible for that persons suicide because we didn't sell them ten packs, just the two they are allowed" scenario. Not to actually stop the suicide.

SuburbanRhonda · 19/01/2016 12:43

If I wanted to overdose, I would find a way.

There's always the possibility that the rule isn't just about you, but about protecting others. Just a thought.

SevenOfNineTrue · 19/01/2016 12:43

YABVU. Staff have to obey the rules. There could be serious consequences if they don't, even dismissal.

Lurkedforever1 · 19/01/2016 12:43

By all means be pissed off with whoever made the policy. But not the staff who have no more say in it than you. Perhaps you think they should have risked disciplinary procedures because you are so special and your life so hard?

Btw, head lice don't make kids itch as soon as one makes its way onto their hair. So actually your own fault for letting it get so bad, don't blame underpaid staff. If you're so busy then perhaps doing regular checks would prevent it being so time consuming, and you could spend just a few minutes treating them with conditioner and a comb.

Oh, and nit treatments not working is not the personal bane of busy working mums. Personally as a working mum I always found parents who left it to the point their kids were itching caused me more trouble.

whatevva · 19/01/2016 12:47

The one time I got fed up and bought nit stuff, it didn't work.

Soak the buggers in really slippy conditioner for half and hour, and dog/cat flea comb with a nice handle.

Then a quick condition and comb at the weekends will be enough to make sure they get rid of anything they pick up during the week and their hair will be lovely (instead of smelling of insecticide).

fourkids · 19/01/2016 12:47

How could you keep kids off school with headlice? Sometimes they can take ages to get rid of! Plus, don't the kids then try and deliberately share them???

OliviaDunham · 19/01/2016 12:48

Incidently nits are not considered an authorised absence in my kids school either - which is why I have to spend everyday combing through my kids hair as lazy arsed parents don't bother to routinely check their kids!!

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 19/01/2016 12:49

grumbles about fucking jobsworth clearly-has-no-kids-so-doesn't-understand-life-with-4-children pharmacy staff

^ and how do you know about their private life from behind the counter?

what a tit.

Ickythumpsmum · 19/01/2016 12:50

Sensible but busy mums like you OP. TOO BUSY TO UNDERSTAND PEOPLE WHO WANT TO KEEP THEIR JOBS HAVE TO FOLLOW THE RULES. Maybe the sales person is sensibly trying to feed their own kids by working, regardless of the abuse given by such sensible people.
Away and nit comb your kids.

MagicalMrsMistoffelees · 19/01/2016 12:52

NHS advice isn't to keep children off school. Truth is the classrooms would be half empty if they were. Headlice can be very difficult to spot and itching can take weeks to start (if it starts at all - the itching is caused by an allergic reaction to the lices' saliva and not everyone is allergic) so the reality is by the time they're detected in hair they've probably been present for some time anyway.

Having said that, I couldn't in good conscience send children with headlice to school. So I'd be getting them out with the nitty gritty and then into school ASAP.

LineyReborn · 19/01/2016 12:52

You DON'T keep children off school for head lice. You treat / comb them asap and then get them in to school asap. It's not a difficult concept.

LineyReborn · 19/01/2016 12:53

Exactly, Magical.

FATEdestiny · 19/01/2016 12:53

Ever so slight over reaction OP.

I wasn't this ranty in ASDA Grin

Try being more sympathetic, and people will be more willing to bend rules.

Well indeed. When told I couldn't buy a 6 treatment bottle but could buy a 2 treatment bottle - the lady took me too the help-yourself shelves to make sure there were 3 available bottles to buy.

This. This is exactly it.

There can be no other way to explain the rule other than silly and jobsworthy.

I can buy 6 treatments without stating I had seen a lice. I am in fact helped to buy 6 treatments of exactly the same stuff by the pharmacy assistant. I can buy 10 or 12 treatments if I so wish.

She'll happily help me buy multiple small bottles, take my money, put through the till with a smile and a thank you. But will not sell me the same thing in big bottles.

I challenge anyone here to say this is logical and makes perfect sense. It doesn't it cannot be dressed in any sensible way.

OP posts:
MagicalMrsMistoffelees · 19/01/2016 12:57

Oh and do regular checks in hair - that gets out any stray ones that have wandered over from a friend and thus stops it getting to the itchy stage.

insancerre · 19/01/2016 12:58

I've not RTT so somebody may have said already
But the twats are those parents who only treat once their child starts scratching
You need to be proactive and assumecthey come into contact with nits and chack every week with conditioner and a nit comb
God knows how many children your three have infected

AndNowItsSeven · 19/01/2016 13:00

Lice treatment does not work buy shower caps and yellow original listerine. Soak the dc heads and cover with shower cap and leave for two hours. I 100% guarantee you every lice will be dead. Comb out eggs with nitty gritty comb and conditioner and repeat whole process in seven days.

gamerchick · 19/01/2016 13:03

Oooooo I like that concoction adora must try that the next time they're in the house Grin

fidel1ne · 19/01/2016 13:04

It is very silly. For the licensing restrictions to make sense, there would have to be a 'maximum number of (small) bottles per customer' restriction in place too.
