Fucking Jobsworth [word removed by MNHQ]

FATEdestiny · 19/01/2016 11:49

Fucking, bastarding jobsworth [word removed by MNHQ] at ASDA pharmacy refused to sell me a large (6 treatment) bottle of nit treatment, but I could buy three smaller (2 treatment) bottles.

Just because they are twatfaced "computer-says-no", no common sense, jobsworth twonks.

DS6 scratchy head last night. I suspected bedtime stalling tactics said I'd check properly the following day. DS10 scrubbing his head with brush this morning - asked what's wrong he said his hair itches. DD11 then pipes up that her hair has been itching too.

Three school aged children plus 1 baby means not loads of time in the morning. Not time to go through hair with a fine toothed comb (literally). Quick flick thro their hair to check they are not riddled and reassuring them it is no reason to stay off school.

I said I'd get treatment today, check with a nit comb afterschool and treat then if needed. But oh no. I cannot buy nit treatment without first confirming I had actually physically seen a headlice that day.

I should have just fucking lied to the sourfaced jobsworth behind the counter.

Twat.

Actually the twats are those who use the nit treatment stuff as a preventative and encourage resistance to the active ingredients. If it wasn't for these twats then sensible but busy Mums like me could but big-family-sized nit treatment and have it in the cupboard ready for when it is needed. And be trusted to only use it when it is needed.

Twats the lot a ya!

If you suspect your DC have nits, IMO, you have to check immediately and treat ASAP, no matter how many DC you have. They're old enough to either have a delayed bedtime or early start to sort this out. Sending them to school untreated is unfair on them as well as other pupils.

YABU and I hope you weren't as rude to the staff in the shop as you have been on here?

Viviennemary · 19/01/2016 12:09

I'd have been annoyed too. And reported them to customer services. Or found a headlice and depositited on the counter. Where is the logical in not being able to buy a large bottle but to be allowed three smaller bottles. OP isn't going to drink the stuff.

Witchend · 19/01/2016 12:11

It can't be used as a preventative as it kills them when you smother them in it.

The issues with resistance is the ones that only kill the live lice and not the eggs and people only doing it once and not a second dose after the eggs hatch isn't it?

thankthoseluckystars · 19/01/2016 12:11

I think the point is not that the rule isn't silly, but that it isn't anything to do with the staff.

goodnightdarthvader1 · 19/01/2016 12:12

Aw, bless MN.

OP, YANBU. My local pharmacy wouldn't sell me 2 x boxes of travel sickness / nausea pills (I take them in pregnancy and wanted to stock up to avoid countless trips to this pharmacy, who are the only ones that sell this brand in my area and have crap parking). I went online and bought 6 boxes off an online pharmacy, cheaper than I would have paid over the counter. So their loss.

If I wanted to overdose, I would find a way. I don't expect pharmacists to tell me anything other than recommended dosage and contraindications.

Katenka · 19/01/2016 12:12

I'd have been annoyed too. And reported them to customer services

what would you expect customer services to do? Over rule the pharmacy rules?

PurpleHairAndPearls · 19/01/2016 12:12

In fact the only "treatment" you need is lots of conditioner and a proper nitty gritty comb, IMO. It does take hours and it's a right ballache, especially with multiple DC that have long hair, but it's the only way to ensure you get everything out. If you keep conditioner and nit comb in the house and check regularly you won't have to act the twat in Asda.

WorraLiberty · 19/01/2016 12:14

I can't believe it's school policy to allow kids with untreated head lice, into school Confused

I've only ever known schools to have a 'treat the lice and send the kids straight back to school' policy.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 19/01/2016 12:14

I understand your feelings but they have a job to do and guidelines to follow and they will be the ones in shit if they get caught NOT following them, not you.

If it makes you feel any better (doubtful but anyway) - when I had DS1, I had to be on warfarin after as I have a blood clotting condition. I took my scrip from the consultant at the hospital to the Tesco pharmacy. I happened to have DS1 (tiny baby) with me at the time, so the pharmacy worker asked if I was breastfeeding (yes). She then said "I don't think I can give you this warfarin if you're breastfeeding" so she phoned someone, hospital pharmacy I think, who said "yes you can, give it to her". Took about 20 mins longer than necessary but she had to do her job according to guidelines. Yes I was ticked off about it, but no I didn't give her a hard time because I understood.

thankthoseluckystars · 19/01/2016 12:14

Then report it, worra ...

ephemeralfairy · 19/01/2016 12:15

Ugh. You are the worst kind of customer. I hope you weren't quite so rude to the staff as you have been here??
I have in the past refused to serve rude customers, and my manager backed me up.
Also your assumption that they have no kids so can't possibly understand how hard your choice life is....how the fuck do you know?? Offensive.

Quiero · 19/01/2016 12:16

How do you actually live your life if you get that wound up over something which essentially is only slightly irritating?

Sourfaced, twatfaced, twat, twonk, moron? Really?

noblegiraffe · 19/01/2016 12:18

There are schools that won't let kids into school until guaranteed nit-free? Confused Their attendance figures must be appalling.

NHS advice says there is no reason to keep nitty kids off school.

JohnLuther · 19/01/2016 12:18

OP you come across as someone with anger issues.

Jibberjabberjooo · 19/01/2016 12:19

So they should have bent the rules just for you? Aren't you a special snowflake.

If they're not actually allowed then how on earth is it the assistant's fault?

Pannacott · 19/01/2016 12:19

That is utterly stupid. Could you a) walk away and come back claiming to be a new customer and say you have seen the head lice (yes everyone knows you are lying but they cannot accuse you of lying), b) demand to see the manager and point out the foolishness of the situation and ask what they are going to do about it, say you are going to put it on social media etc. In a polite but exasperated voice. Make it as much of a headache for them as it is for you. Unfortunately it's often the only way that things change.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 19/01/2016 12:20

But why were three x 2 treatment bottles okay then? confused That makes literally NO sense. No wonder you're ranting a bit.

^^This. Though presumably it's more expensive if you buy three bottles instead of one large one.... Gah !

willconcern · 19/01/2016 12:21

I have bought nit treatment stuff loads of times and never been asked about dosage, or refused purchase of 2 bottles, or asked if I'd actually seen a louse.

And I send my DSs to school as well - school's policy is not to keep them off. It's hardly life threatening.

You've reminded me, I need to do the second treatment on DS2 later this week

PaulAnkaTheDog · 19/01/2016 12:21

You're quite the little charmer. Get a grip, seriously. Blaming people for things out with their control is pointless.

MountainDweller · 19/01/2016 12:22

Just go to another pharmacy and say you have seen a whole head full of lice?

CantWaitforWarmWeather · 19/01/2016 12:22

The staff have rules to follow. If they had it their way they would probably sell it to you so that you'd just fuck off.

Really, why should they bend the rules just for you and risk their job? I know I wouldn't.

And yes, I used to work in asda a few years ago. Couldn't sell more than 2 packets of paracetamol per person. I didn't make those rules but I still had to follow them. Guess that made me a jobsworth.

LordOfMisrule · 19/01/2016 12:23

Fucking, bastarding jobsworth morons are working in a low paid job, where they are without much value to their employer and can be easily replaced if procedure isn't followed.

YABVVVVVVVUUUUUU to think that your need for nit medication trumps their need to pay the bills.

Try being more sympathetic, and people will be more willing to bend rules.

I wouldn't have sold you the nit stuff in this state - in fact, pissing you off would make my day more interesting.

WorraLiberty · 19/01/2016 12:25

Then report it, worra

Huh? To whom? The OP's local authority? The chair of governors? Confused

I have no idea who she is?

Redglitter · 19/01/2016 12:27

Ever so slight over reaction OP. Hate to think what you'll be like when something worth getting upset about happens

LineyReborn · 19/01/2016 12:30

The normal policy is for children to be sent in to school as soon as possible after being treated or combed at home.

In other words, make some bloody effort to deal with the lice, and get them to school, as quickly as possible.
