To think this is so AGEING

Being over-specific about how you want your hot drink. Don't do it! You can choose milk and/or sugar. That's it. Any further instruction makes you sound like you buy your shoes from an insert in the Telegraph weekend supplement.

'Just dunk the bag and take it out quickly could you?'/'Not too much milk, please'/'just the one sugar, but if you could make it a smallish spoon'/'I prefer a good slug of milk'.

Urgh. Verbal varicose veins.

Those shoes ARE lovely. Many posters on here have been buying exactly those since they were in their teens.

ha ha I am so old I didn't grow up with Black/white tea or fancy freaking coffees.

In our house it was pass or sterra?

You have to be old to understand that. Grin

Jibberjabberjooo · 18/01/2016 22:27

If you made a decent cup of tea in the first place I wouldn't need to appear fussy.

Burnt toffee for me, none of this milky cats piss rubbish.

Kingfisherfree · 18/01/2016 22:28

Grin Yes that is how you make tea but I get it about 50% of the time - most people just let the milk keep on coming and yes loose leaf tea is preferable!

EddieStobbart · 18/01/2016 22:31

Ohfor - disaster! You might be... you know, old. There you go, you may (or may not) have reached a certain age and are therefore, well, just a little bit disgusting. Never mind, I'll put the kettle on and we can all have a brew.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 18/01/2016 22:31

Whenever I offer a drink I ask how do you like it?

Doesn't matter what age you are, you're entitled to eat and drink what you prefer. It's not hard to learn people's preferences Confused Everyone I make drinks for has their own taste and none of it seems age related at all.

EddieStobbart · 18/01/2016 22:33

Am about to have some cocoa - am a really fussy bugger about that...

FizzyGood · 18/01/2016 22:33

I used to work with a woman who'd say 'I like a lot of milk, but I like to taste the tea'. This was 20 years ago and I STILL don't know what she meant! I tried so many ways but it was never right, sigh...

MissAlabamaWhitman · 18/01/2016 22:36

Two teaspoons of carte noir, two scoops of cocoa, 50mls of pouring cream and four sweeteners.

I'll get my coat (and pipe and slippers) shall I?

squidgyapple · 18/01/2016 22:39

Well the oldest person I know takes their tea how it comes. But yes - it's annoying and I think if you're fussy about it make it yourself.

Funniest request from someone I used to work with was for 'half a cup of tea!'

TheLesserSpottedBee · 18/01/2016 22:42

Ds2 is a mere 9 years old but will specify half a teaspoon of sugar in his decaf coffee Grin plus exactly how much milk he likes in his specific cup. Does that make him old?

We have a bean to cup coffee machine and drink coffee several ways (espresso, tall coffee black, cappuccino etc) I like my tea the way I like it. Why would I drink something that tasted horrid and not say anything? Friends would ensure I had a nice drink, I do the same for them.

And yes I did take my own coffee to my friend's house because she only had Mellow Birds coffee and it is dire.

AddToBasket · 18/01/2016 22:43

It's not hard to learn people's preferences

I'm not going to 'learn your preferences'.

I want you to enjoy your cup, but the fact that you are lecturing me on your entitlement when I'm just making you a hot drink for the time you (and others) are in this meeting is kind of what I'm talking about.

OhforGodsake · 18/01/2016 22:43

hihoho I must be as old as you then because I know exactly what pass and sterra is! Used to love sterra too! Wonder if you can still get it in those lovely long slim bottles?

OhforGodsake · 18/01/2016 22:46

Blimming heck Op, have you considered a coffee machine instead? Might be better for everyone concerned.

GigiB · 18/01/2016 22:46

Urgh. Verbal varicose veins.

Love this.

Totally agree. milk or not. sugar or not. No more instruction should be required other than 'Milk and two'.

Pigeonpost · 18/01/2016 22:51

I don't drink tea. Making tea for other people makes me nervous. I might get one of those charts!!

AddToBasket · 18/01/2016 22:52

There's a coffee machine out of sight in the office kitchen. Four different types of pod. Several different options with the milk froth thing.

I never, ever mention it.

MrsHathaway · 18/01/2016 22:58

I think general hot drink fuss is surely hipster, not hip replacement.

Mind you, in people's houses I say "just hot water please" because I bring my own herbal. Haven't been able to drink black tea since I got pg with DC3.

Hihohoho1 · 18/01/2016 23:01

OhforGodsake

Me too bloody loved sterra back in the day. You right too the bottles were nice. Grin

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 18/01/2016 23:02

do they still sell Mellow Birds coffee I used to like it

I was always disappointed there wasn't a winking little smiley face in the freshly opened coffee jar now I am giving away my age

JessieMcJessie · 18/01/2016 23:03

I love tea. However if my tea is too milky (and most people's default amount of milk is far too much for me) I literally can't drink it. So if I don't say "only a tiny bit of milk please" the maker's time and effort, not to mention the electricity and the ingredients, are completely wasted as it will just sit there and get cold till I can subtly chuck it.

However I will eat absolutely anything offered to me and am in no way shape or form "set in my ways" outside the realm of tea.

Another Midnight Savannah here by the way Smile.

Floisme · 18/01/2016 23:04

Op you are coming across as someone who thinks that making the drinks - especially perhaps for a group of middle aged women - is somehow beneath them. This is not, as we say on Style and Beauty, a good look.

You are, however correct about the Style and Beauty board. I kick them up the arse all the time.

JessieMcJessie · 18/01/2016 23:05

Ha Enthusiasm I used to beg my Mum to get Mellow Birds! She refused on the grounds that it was "not nice".

liz70 · 18/01/2016 23:07

Joanna Lumley grimacing and chucking her not Mellow Birds coffee into the potted plant behind. Grin

OhforGodsake · 18/01/2016 23:14

Millicano is the best instant coffee I've tasted, almost as good as "fresh" coffee. Bit more expensive but worth it, especially when it's on special offer and you can stock pile it.
