To think this is so AGEING

Being over-specific about how you want your hot drink. Don't do it! You can choose milk and/or sugar. That's it. Any further instruction makes you sound like you buy your shoes from an insert in the Telegraph weekend supplement.

'Just dunk the bag and take it out quickly could you?'/'Not too much milk, please'/'just the one sugar, but if you could make it a smallish spoon'/'I prefer a good slug of milk'.

Urgh. Verbal varicose veins.

Nope, I like a hot drink to be hot. If I was served a hot drink in a cafe/pub that wasn't hot enough, I'd send it back. It doesn't make me old.

Are you ok, op?
Much head tilting and hoping this isn't all you have to worry about Grin
I dislike soup that isn't piping hot as well.

IWannaHoldYourHand · 18/01/2016 20:29

YABU. There isn't room in my life for crap tea.

Butteredparsnips · 18/01/2016 20:29

Well if that's ageing I'll take it. Better than minging milky tea.

Now if someone could just tell me what shade the bottom left hand corner is called, to save me finding my reading glasses I'll place my order. (That does make me feel old)

SmellyHead · 18/01/2016 20:29

Cuppa Cabana in the morning, Devon Tan in the afternoon.

DotForShort · 18/01/2016 20:30

Oh, come on. For one thing, what is wrong with being (shock!) old? A sneering attitude toward older people is a really unattractive trait. We need an "everyday ageism" campaign.

And why shouldn't people request their tea the way they like it? Not quite getting the outrage here.

LittleLionHeart · 18/01/2016 20:30

Yeah no young people order an extra hot venti skinny latte do they?

bibbitybobbityyhat · 18/01/2016 20:30

No, I completely disagree I'm afraid. I don't think that's AGEING at all.

ThisisnotAmerica · 18/01/2016 20:31

How the hell is that ageing?!

I'm very specific with my tea instructions and have been since I was around 14 years old.

You are odd OP I may have to say.

Sparklingbrook · 18/01/2016 20:31

That's a Nigerian Sunset Parsnips.

purplewhale · 18/01/2016 20:31

I can't drink milky tea, it tastes of cow. I like a splash of skimmed milk - if that's a problem I have it black.

HeyYouGetOffMyCloud · 18/01/2016 20:31

I agree OP.

IvyWall · 18/01/2016 20:31

I have a mug with a colour chart in it

Not as complex as Sparklings, but my 14 yr old ds likes it

Floisme · 18/01/2016 20:33

I'll have a double espresso with 40 mils of hot water on the side and two squares of dark chocolate, thank you. No sugar.

I'm eleventy nine.

AddToBasket · 18/01/2016 20:34

Missy, exactly! Total slippery slope.

See also: travelling with own tea bags (or cafetière in my uncle's case).

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 18/01/2016 20:34

Hmm I sort of know what op means. But I can't say I can summon up much else to say about it

Bunbaker · 18/01/2016 20:37

How old are you OP? 12?

Lookatyourwatchnow · 18/01/2016 20:37

Not ageing, but irritating nonetheless. This sort of hot drink making etiquette is why I wait for someone else in the office to make the round Smile

Movingonmymind · 18/01/2016 20:40

If I'm paying £2.50ish for what is basically hot water run over some burnt beans with a top up of hot milk, I expect to get it EXACTLY how I like it, if in someone's home, of course not.

Custard314 · 18/01/2016 20:40

What's irritating is that they don't always warm the cup as a matter of course. I hate when you order a latte and they don't rinse out the cup with boiling hot water first. Now that is annoying.

CombineBananaFister · 18/01/2016 20:40

YABU - if I'm paying £2.50+ for a cup of coffee, I want it exactly how I want it. That makes me a bit a tight and a bit of an arsehole but not ancient.

CombineBananaFister · 18/01/2016 20:41

x-post moving

MySordidCakeSecret · 18/01/2016 20:41

well i have no idea what you're going on about.. some people are particular with their tea.. me being one of them, and i'm in my early 20s..

Sweetdreamsforall · 18/01/2016 20:42

What an odd thread.

I don't like tea or coffee but I think it's quite cute. My db's young) friend likes half a teaspoon of milk. Makes me laugh every time.

At least some people care what they put in their mouths instead of mindlessly shoving anything in there regardless of taste?

Can almost see what you might be getting at but not sure why it offends so much. Deeper issue here...scared of ageing...? No just kidding, don't want to go that deep over a tea bag.

AddToBasket · 18/01/2016 20:43

I am definitely referring to home brews not a cafe where you're selecting from a menu Grin. I'm talking about how you answer the question 'Can I get you a cup of tea or coffee...?'

OP posts:
Error404usernamenotfound · 18/01/2016 20:43

Ooh, mine's a burnt toffee. Good to know Smile

pssst! OP! I think Missy was joking...
