To just go to Disneyland Paris for one day?

DC really want to go as all their friends have been but none of us like Disney.

This summer planning Paris for a week, museums, Eiffel tower, parks etc.

And then Disneyland Paris in the middle. For one day only.

Aibu unreasonable weighting activities in favour of adults or should I submerge myself in theme park horror for at least two days!

DC don't like rides. Just think they want to go to say they've been

DC will be 7 and 2.5

There are a big list of closures this year, more than any normal theme park. There is a comprehensive list on their website of closures and dates. My boys will not go till Aerosmith and Star Tours are open again.

Will, and the rest! You've convinced me!

Saw you tube clips and Efteling looks amazing!

Am looking to go there now but travel looks like a right pain, whats the best way to go?

Ferry says overnight, seven hrs!

I took the opportunity to take DD (9) last year when I visited Paris with my mum. My mum didn't fancy it, so she did the Louvre and DD & I got the train there.

5 hours was plenty. She liked a Small World, didn't esp like the other rides, and we spent an hour queuing for her to cuddle Thumper. Hmm The number if adults without chiodren queueing to take selfies with adults dressed in rabbit suits was worrying.

Train is straightforward and as we left I was very glad to be heading back to Paris. I felt sorry for the drained looking parents hearing back to the onsite hotels.

ErgonomicallyUnsound · 15/01/2016 23:37

.....I should say we had a VIP fast pass which a friend gave me, which meant we queue jumped a few rides, it's useful if you have limited time.

As above, we took the overnight ferry from Harwich -the rooms were actually really nice and we got a good night's sleep. The kids loved the adventure of sleeping on a boat! We also had a cabin on the return journey which was a daytime trip. Was great to relax on the beds and watch TV, read books etc in comfort and privacy. Not too expensive either. The drive the other side is fairly uncomplicated too. I really have nothing bad to say about Efteling, it's brilliant.

Holidayrash · 15/01/2016 23:51

We took the ferry from Calais to Dunkirk and then drove for 2.5 hours.

We went as part of a stay at the nearby Centre Parcs. Much cheaper than the UK ones.

TheWitTank · 15/01/2016 23:54

Ditto with the Center Parcs! Much better (and cheaper) than the UK ones.

Whoatemyunicorn · 16/01/2016 07:23

Thanks Wit and Holiday!

I will take the overnight ferry. I always wanted to sleep on a boat!

wow!! You wont regret but its fairy easy for us to travel there from where we are.

We are very tight of ££ at the moment, so I want to make sure we get quality and a great experience for our ££.

I am 100% aiming for DLP at some point, I love disney but the mixed reviews are making me tentative at the moment to book. And its more than twice the price of The Efteling.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 16/01/2016 13:23

sorry I keep repeating myself. Blush

we are new to this but other more experienced posters have said they also sometimes go to Duinell? another smaller park? and also there is a safari park near ish by, two towns near by are supposed to be lovely classic dutch towns and we combine our trip with a stop off in Bruges. we go dover - dunkirk.

Whoatemyunicorn · 16/01/2016 14:38

Oooh! Will check that one out too!

Efteling is amazing! We actually booked as a cheap alternative/compromise on DLP. But filth that we struck gold, it was so wonderful.

Agree that overnight ferry is way to go. We stayed at Efteling hotel, which includes park entry in the cost. If you do the overnight ferry there, your drive will be about an hour, although can't check in till 3.00 you can access the park straight away. Then in the park whole of next day, and drive back to ferry port late afternoon for return overnight ferry. So easy, we can't wait to go back.

DrSausagedog · 16/01/2016 22:54

Felt, not filth, sorry!

I went for one day a couple of years ago. It's the maximum I can bear. And we found it was enough (but we were there when they opened the gates and got turfed out when the closed them) although the kids would have loved another.

GraysAnalogy · 17/01/2016 00:22

I did a day and I was ready to rest at the end of it. I was 14 at the time and with school. They let us just walk around and do our own thing with our friends and meet up later (which I now think is quite shocking to be honest)

It's a really fun place. Food if I remember rightly is quite expensive though

KERALA1 · 17/01/2016 11:41

Doesn't sound shocking we host great big French 14 year olds from language schools and they quite capable of going about unaccompanied.

I remember being let loose at butlins for the day as a brownie so under 10.

GraysAnalogy · 20/01/2016 15:08

Of course they're capable, as were we, but it still shocks me that we were in a foreign country, barely able to speak the language and left to our own devices.

Me and my friend got followed by a couple of men and I got tired of it and being a mouthy teen asked them why, one handed me a 5 euro note (think it was a 5) and said I;d dropped it and said I had nice legs Hmm I defo hadn't dropped anything. I kept the 5 euro though.
