to ask someone to move their child out of my plane seat

kipperssippers · 13/01/2016 20:00

more of a WWYD then AIBU but...
i booked the seat by the window as i always do and when i got to my seat a child around 8 was in my seat with her mum beside her.
When i got there i told the mother that the window seat is my seat and she said her child wanted the window seat to look out, i then replied then you should of booked one.
I didnt want to cause a scene but the women made out i'm an arsehole for asking her kid to move as she had never been on a flight and wanted to look outside.
I did give in and stayed pissed off for 7 hours in my non window seat.

what would you of done in this situation?

Hiho Couldn't have put it better myself. I'm English through and through. I have 3 adult (just!) DC's. They are wonderful and polite. Not entitled. Work hard. Two of them do charity work in their spare time, one for homeless people, the other for the elderly. I do more than that but don't want to identify myself.

But hey we're all cold, unfriendly and twattish.

OfaFrenchmind2 · 13/01/2016 23:28

Bollocks to this article, every body knows that the French have the monopoly of arrogance. Therefore I refute this self-loathing article.

expatinscotland · 13/01/2016 23:30

'I read recently about the nun who nicked the reserved seat. was that here?'

Nah, it was these two bams who wound up in another carriage from all their mates, so they spent the entire journey getting up and going to the other carriage to blether with these mates (train was completely full).

TheCatsMeow · 13/01/2016 23:30

lost i find it strange how offended they're getting that 2 people don't think Britain is great

clam · 13/01/2016 23:31

I think that the British have a reputation overall for being welcoming and fair-minded. However, we don't like piss-takers, and this woman on the plane was definitely one.

Samcro · 13/01/2016 23:31

there is someone one here......who is trying to make this all
OMG ........you racist.
the truth is......you want a seat....sort it. you don't then bully some one else.
\genuine stuff happens and you the are polite.

TheCatsMeow · 13/01/2016 23:31

expat the only reason I don't is family and friends. If I could take everyone with me I would emigrate

lostoldlogin2 · 13/01/2016 23:32

I don't - I expect it. That sort of nonsense is why I'm well out of there.

ilovesooty · 13/01/2016 23:32

I don't feel offended by the views of people whose opinions I have no regard for.

janethegirl2 · 13/01/2016 23:32

To be fair, if I was traveling by train with a child or two I'd book seats, however I would have thought most people in that scenario would too. It wouldn't be nice to have to stand with children, would it?

Roussette · 13/01/2016 23:33

I don't think we are saying that we think everyone should say Britain is great. But you have been very rude about everyone in this country with your sweeping generalisations on this thread and your train one. You haven't a clue, really not.

Hihohoho1 · 13/01/2016 23:33

Ex just keeps giving.Grin

TheCats have you been watching old episodes of 'Mind your language love'

English/ cold
French/rude
Italian/loves kids
Russian/drunks

And so it goes on!

Funinthesun15 · 13/01/2016 23:35

That article cat is 19 years old Grin

TheCatsMeow · 13/01/2016 23:35

i don't think the French are rude, Italians love kids or Russians are drunk.

I do think the English are cold though

Samcro · 13/01/2016 23:36

can we mention Austria?? omg they are rude, but who cares....the skiing, the food and the "warm wine'

Roussette · 13/01/2016 23:36

Well done for finding that Cats! Google is your friend!

TheCatsMeow · 13/01/2016 23:36

Doesn't matter. Proves my point that this view isn't a new idea

MagzFarquarson · 13/01/2016 23:36

Last time I went to central London, British people were well in the minority - so don't blame us Grin

This thread reminds me of a flight I was on about 6 months ago. Group of 5 people, 3 kids and 2 women - one woman and 2 kids on one side, one kid sat in my (window) seat and woman sat on aisle seat. I pointed out to the aisle woman that the kid was in my seat and could it move, please? Woman demanded I show her my ticket, which I happily did, then she proceeded to move to the middle seat, leaving me with the aisle seat - in the middle of their group! Err, no.

After much huffing and tutty eyerolling and 'you've got to move to let the lady sit there, Frogmella' the situation was resolved and I sat in my booked seat.

Hate me now cats Grin

Samcro · 13/01/2016 23:37

im english and I am cold....>>

Funinthesun15 · 13/01/2016 23:37

Oh and that last one is 6 years old and is one persons interview

clam · 13/01/2016 23:37

Seriously? You don't think that things could have changed in 19 years?

Okaaaay.

FinestGrundyTurkey · 13/01/2016 23:37

but catsmeow, we live here.

you can link all you like to articles that say we're all horrible, but we live here, & we know it's just media shit.

if you're trying to convince yourself & your allies though, go right ahead Grin

TheCatsMeow · 13/01/2016 23:37

Don't be condescending Roussette

ilovesooty · 13/01/2016 23:37

I think it demonstrates spectacular lack of intelligence to stereotype whole countries and their populations.
